You’re both in my thoughts and prayers having gone through low back surgery myself! 
I wish her a super speedy recovery and you the super virtue of patience, being a “Nurse”, if its not your chosen career, can definitely be challenging.
Adapting to the way her body functions under new and constraining parameters IS going to be challenging, it will take time & patience to learn the functional adaptations properly.
Try to have some fun, this will bring you closer.
