Geodome grown

Hi folks, I’ve been lurking for a year or so, using this fantastic database to find answers and enjoying the bud porn along the way, and after seeing how supportive everyone was for a member struggling with depression, I figured I could trust this community.

So here’s a few shots of my setup and plants I grew last year. It’s a 21 foot diameter 2v geodome I built myself without plans of any kind—although I did scope out the growing spaces website pretty hard and follow their general design. Many small mistakes along the way, but I still absolutely love the space and grow everything from tomatoes and squash to asparagus. Anything that loves heat absolutely thrives.

Last year, I ran a bunch of autos, which I did not take lots of photos of, but had the most success with lilac runtz cake regulars from purple caper. I got one male and 3 female, and made about fifty seeds. I also crossed the male to Mephisto’s sugar high, which is wedding cake and sour diesel, maybe?

Anyways, I’ve got those male genetics and a bunch of auto strains to cross them with. More importantly, I scored a pack of feminized lilac runtz cake so I can do a proper back cross to work on an IBL. I have lots of space, so I’m going to play with autos early in the growing season.

As for photoperiod strains, I didn’t breed any last year, but I did grow tropicanna cookies, crescendo, and gorilla cookies. All were good smoke, but none as strong as I’d hoped.

This year, I plan on making crosses with white nightmare f2 regulars, and hopefully get a male out of the purple caper assorted chocolate reg freebies I got.

When I post my strain list, I’d love to have any input

about strains or votes for potential crosses.

I live in a really cold place, but started popping in March and had good results. So pull up a seat, have a smoke, and enjoy. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you!

The geodome is great! That’s a lot of work just to maintain, let alone build in the first place! I found out recently that I could put up a 200 sq ft structure in my yard with no permit, and the ideas have been flowing. I think my yard would be too shady to grow in something like that, but now I want one as a social space  Also, your glowing turtle is delightful.

I hope the breeding projects go as desired, you definitely have some room for exciting projects! The flowers look great.

I haven’t been on OG super long (since this past summer), but it definitely feels different than so many other places on the internet. Having such a supportive environment helps us all improve. I hope you’re able to flourish here!

I look forward to following along.

nice grow

The “V” relates to the frequency of triangles in the structure of your geodome.

Hey thanks! The structure was a lot of work—and I wouldn’t do this again, but I really needed an outlet. I thought I’d spend most of my time doing some kind of artwork in there, but every time I go in there I find something to putter about with, and it’s really more of a zen space.

I love working my way around the circle and checking on all the plants

I used thunder dome hubs. Not terribly pricey. Doing it yourself cost a fraction of what growing spaces charges. But, there are cheaper ways to build a greenhouse!

Hi @Geodomegrown!! Welcome to OG. I love your set up, it looks very peaceful. I’ll follow along on your growing adventure. :potted_plant:

And so it begins: a printed calendar and a tray of tomatoes and spinach, one for gifts to family after the last frost and spinach for late spring harvest. We just got a foot of snow but it’s not stopping g me!

Pretty slow going here. Someone needs to drop a meme about an “outdoor” grower (in my case, an unheated greenhouse) waiting for spring. It won’t always be unheated, but for now, we’ve gotten 2 feet of snow in 2 weeks.

Spinach and tomatoes are coming up though. Should be beasts by the time my friends who buy seedlings from box stores look to snag a few. Anyone else starting veggies for sale/giving?

If I started a photoperiod now, with 11/13 light, would it finish before re-vegging itself when the light jumps to 14 in say, 3 months? Those white nightmare seeds are looking at me funny.

You can always put them in a box at night to keep them in flower. That is what I do.

I have given up on trying to grow in a greenhouse in winter. For me it is better to shut down for the winter. Very difficult to heat a greenhouse.

You’re absolutely right. The heat you can make fairly cheaply, if the environment is set up right, but there’s just not enough light where I live. 9 hours of elephant gray sky in January.

I ran spinach and kale all last winter, and everything lived, but nothing grew. Totally stunted until the end of March when everything takes off.

Nice. We have 26’ GS dome. 10 years on. 7100 ft in CO. Oddly enough, I’ve never grown weed in it to fruition…only to get plants started for outdoor one year. We use it for a bit of food but mostly just for a nice, Florida-like environment in the Wintertime. We have a woodstove in there for the nights below 10F or so. Otherwise it will stay above 40F on it’s own. Did you build a pond?

Thanks for sharing. Good job!

Wow! That’s a gorgeous space! I envisioned spending more time writing in mine, but my kids are still little. When they are older I’ll put a rocket mass heater in there so I can enjoy it all winter long.

I designed a space for a pond, or a rocket heater, but haven’t gotten to it yet. Not sure which direction to go.

“With a username like that, they’d better actually be growing in a geodo-----OH, that’s cool!” :metal:
