Ghgrower 2023 greenhouse grow

Hey everyone…. Or no one :joy:

Just making a diary mostly for myself. I am super new to growing, I have 2 grows under my belt total …. If you don’t count planting bag seed along a fence behind a garage when I was a teen.
With that said, my first grow was a few clones from a relative. Needless to say one plant did “ok” the other was a mess, but got a decent return of ok bud. 2nd grow was half outdoor and half greenhouse, I basically built the greenhouse around my outdoor grow lol THAT grow did pretty darn good I must say, and has me really excited for this year.

A few things up front…. I’m not terribly good at writing these things or thinking small things are worth posting so I end up not posting much. I’ll try to remedy that. And while I completely love any advice given me, but I’m one of those guys who has to do what their mind says even if against the established norms. It’s not any disrespect to anyone, it’s just how I learn. I have to prove to myself I was wrong lol . So I welcome advice but please don’t feel offended if I don’t take the advice. It’s logged in my head and I can take the advice given and weigh it to the course of action I took (right or wrong) and that’s how I learn :grinning:

Ok onto the grow.

I just discovered this amazing site …. Heck a few months ago? And has changed my direction of thinking. My second grow was fem seeds from ILGM and as I stated they did great. But discovering this place has made me see that I might want to get my seeds elsewhere, and so I have…. With the exception of one Chocolope seed which was my wife’s favorite from my second grow.

The rest is a mish mash of seedlings…… I have Fleur Du Mal seeds … the Durban Mix, the Cinderella Mix, the freebie pack of Indiana Bubblegum, and @darkillusion “sour 13” that I won.
The final plants are yet to be determined based on survival and sex lol. I think I under germinated quantity wise … and may need to do a few late starters… :man_shrugging:t2:.
Again, im learning and it’s my first time using regular seeds and not feminized. Should have started a few extra lol

I also went the route of making my own soil this year using the Kis nutrient pack. Interested in seeing how that works out.

The final homes will be 15 gallon fabric pots from ac infinity. Seem pretty quality. Im hoping for 8 good plants, which is up from 6 last year.

I use supplemental UV light for flowering, my greenhouse plastic has UV inhibitors so figured I’d supplement it. Some say I don’t need to … others say I do… :man_shrugging:t2: I have ‘em, im using them.

Im going to try to use rainwater to water the plants as I don’t want to use treated water from the city…. And reverse osmosis water is expensive and I believe lacks “stuff” I might want.

With that said… here’s a few pics to where im at currently. Will edit to add more pics from phone lol

Not much new today. Just watered my cups and searched for some signs of sex… still can’t determine. I’d like my overnight temps to get a bit higher so I can move plants into greenhouse permanently. And maybe their final home pots. Patience is a virtue right :joy:

Not much for an update, but the ladies have taken up residence in the greenhouse finally. Temps seem to be staying high enough overnight now. Hopefully they will start showing sex soon so I can get them in to their final pots.

I was moving them back and forth for awhile there to get them hardened and that damn wire rack just wasn’t stable and a few took a tumble… so have a few damages leaves but they seem to be recovering :flushed::grimacing:

That’s about all I have for the moment, but temps are averaging upwards

So I have a question.

I’m new to regular seeds… I knew there was chances at males and I’m fine with that, but I think I might have underestimated how many to germinate in order to have a good chance at how many females I wanted.

Basically anted 8 females so germinated like 16 seeds. Between some seeds not germinating and still unknown sex of those who did…… I’m thinking I should pop a few more even if they are a little behind lol thoughts?

Second question is, I want to top these plants, will topping delay me being able to sex the plants?

It’s a coin flip and male to female ratios are kinda just a random thing. Some strains and genetics might be more prone to produce more of one then the other but again it is just a dice roll on whether the seeds in your hand are male or female.

I don’t believe topping will stop preflower calxyes from forming and if it does its probably not drastic.

@Ghgrower

Your prep looks good. Can’t wait to see it grow!

Thanks man, I’m just anxious to know if I have boys or girls! Lol  I just might do it this weekend. Might plant them also in their final homes, if I need to cull some then no biggie. They are starting to outgrow the cups lol

So I plan on topping my plants and transplanting them into final homes. Should I do one before the other? And if so should I wait between the two?

Howdy!

Some great looking plants you’ve got here. Take my advice with a grain of salt as I’m also a new grower and do not typically top (lol). I personally would transplant first, allow the plants to recover, and then top them. I’ve seen plants bounce back from a transplant later on the same day, allowing you to top them shortly thereafter. Not sure how long recovery from topping typically takes, but I’d assume it may be longer.

Also, your plants’ roots should have filled those solo cups real nice by now, meaning the plants could be getting stressed from becoming rootbound. I would avoid adding more stress while they’re in the small containers.

Just my 2 centz though. Luckily, there are members way smarter and with much more experience than myself here who can hopefully better answer your question.

Best of luck dude, I’ll be lurkin’!

pulled me a chair too

So It looks like most of my plants are starting to show sex…. And moving them into their final pots.

Female:

Male I think:

One I moved two soon so will need to pull and replace, gonna wait another day or two to be sure.
