I place each strain (beans) in their own shot glass, along with water, or your preferred soaking solution.
For this round, I decided to use Coconut Water for the soak; the only reason I did this is because I bought a case, and didn’t really like it. So instead of pouring it down the drain, I read somewhere that it’s beneficial for plants too - so I figured why not.
Then, I place a tinfoil lid over them: this keeps them dark, shielded from the light, and also keeps the warmth in as well. And into the chamber they go.
So now they’re soaking in Coconut water for the next couple days.

The Coconut Water soak didn’t work that great - perhaps they add a preservative? I know there’s some ascorbic acid (vitamin c) in there as well - good for the body, not necessarily good for beans. After three (3) days in the chamber, I wasn’t geting any signs of life; actully there was a bit of a fungus on some of the beans.
I was bummed out - I thought that i might have ruined this round, before it even had a chance to start. So I went back to my tried and true methods (no more experimentations); I got them out of the Coconut H2O, gave them a quick soak in Hydrogen Peroxide H2O2, and put them right into soil…
And within a day or two (2) - there were signs of life.
I’ll never use Coconut water as a germination technique; but do you think watering with the Coconut water would be of any benefit?

Basically, I put them into the promix (pre watered - straight tap), and misted them with my “Humic Acid & Kelp”, and covered with a humidity dome…
This made the beans Very Happy
The top shelf was the first to start popping beans, so after two (2) days, I alternated, and put the top shelf down one level, and moved the lower tray to the top…and it helps. One thing for certain: New Sprouts love warm temp, and do much better when warm. The top tray had all broken through the soil, so I was able to remove the humidity dome (which I keep on until most of the beans have sprouted). Since the lower tray just moved to the top level, it still needed the humidity dome. And since the temperatures still are a bit cool, I alternate the trays every couple days, so they all get the to share in the warmth. …using LEDs at this point produces some heat, but not that much - and early spring, temp are generally cool.

Classics are always nice and from what I have seen s.d usually makes a nice cross.

Love it, i’m focusing on classics/landraces myself.

Cool,
I have SDsl from a fellow who’s been growing it for years.
He had one female that was noticably stronger than the others so he learned how to clone & then self’d her.
I was able to buy 3 Fem seeds of her and about 20 regular beans from last fall.
Several people commented that it was the best they’ve had.
It’ll be interesting to watch along and learn a few things.
Thanks.

Any particular crosses that stand out or come to mind?

I find that the humidity dome work great for popping beans after the soak and paper towel method . Then they go straight out and into a small 3x3 pot into done

When ure looking for Diesel Genetics… Check out the Diesel from Connoiseur Genetics! → I´ll pop then in Sep.
My actuelly Diesel is the Diesel BX2 from Aficinado French Connection.
But one plant is really crap… Only gummy Bears terps… and they´re small plants.

Gummy bear terps from a “diesel”?

I was gifted some nice s.d cross beans - 1# s.d x orange zkittels - really strong weed and growing a s.d x black jack cross - The later seems to be a really nice cross as well.
I added some cotton candy kush to the sd x ozk cross but they all turned male so that will have to wait to another time…to much time wasted, growing fem seeds now but will give that cross a another try in future.

I havn’t heard cotton candy kush in ages. I had it and juicy fruit once. They’re some of my favorites and would love to grow them.

…I’ve read the reviews, and the Aficionado Diesel (Alderpoint Diesel, Original Diesel) continually disappoints everyone whom grows her. The one thing people do say is that she can be used in breeding work. But everyone commented the same thing - “gummy bear”, nose, flavor…no “real diesel” I wish I had had done a little more research about them, but I got the beans a while back, and just popping them now. Very sad, maybe that’s why they only release a limited amount of packs. And now they teamed up with Uncle Doobie’s Sour Diesel (he just won some of the local Sour Diesel, and Kush contests with his cut - which he’s held over the past 20+ years). Uncle Doobie is East Coast - specifically Western Mass - also, where the original Mass Super Skunk came to life (I wouldn’t be surprised if the original MSS is in Uncle Doobie’s Cut DNA).
…It kind of makes sense now: I had some friends visit from California back around Y2K, and the dude had brought some nice grandaddy purps with him, (that’s when purple urkle was a “hot” strain). …Then I pulled out my Mass Super Skunk, and he was blown away…it was a cut I had from the late 90’s, and held up until 2010ish when I lost it in a move (held for a good solid 15 years in my circle). He couldn’t believe how Skunky it was; he said had no problem bringing the GDP with him on the plane - and when I offered some MSS to bring back home, he said there’s no way I can bring that anywhere, it smells way too strong…haha
Back to SD - I have the Alderpoint SD, so might as well grow them out; but I’ll definitely have no problem when it come to the elimination round.
From what other members have said & reviewed, the Sour Diesel legacy ranking goes a little something like this:
#1 Sour Diesel Riri Cut
#2 Sour Diesel - Top Dawg
#3 Sour Diesel - Karma genetics
#4 All the other Sour Diesels…

I have not used bottled coconut water but I have fresh coconuts outside. I have used it a couple times but its too much work to water my plants with whenever Im busy. I believe there is elecrolytes and the plants like that and I believe it would be somewhat beneficial to a living soil grow but Im not sure if its any better than mollases. I think the bottled stuff would end up hurting your plants because of the preservatives and acid but I could be wrong.

You said it right - I will NEVER use Coconut H2O for germination again; it was more of an experiment. The seeds never cracked, and a couple developed a small amount of fungus. I bought a case (2 months ago) thinking I would drink it, but it really doesn’t taste that great either.
I was going to just dump it onto the sink, but then thought - “hey, maybe I’ll use it to germinate”.
Next - I’ll pick a plant and water it with Coconut H2O - just for hahas… We’ll see if there’s any noticeable difference.
