Saw these going for an astronomical price early in an auction. Anyone have experience with this? The background tale has me hook line and sinker ![]()
Hey bud, this cannot be in the co-op section. The co-op section is only for approved co-op runs and co-op information threads. Please move it to another section.
My mistake will get it shifted, thanks for the heads up ![]()
No worries, thanks.
exactly why I came on here. Then there’s this, and an auction where these are going for 500/10 beans
Breeder Notes:
The legendary Golden Voice was said to have originated from Thailand but actually came from imported Laotian weed, according to the following excerpt from “Thai Stick: Surfers, Scammers, and the Untold Story of the Marijuana Trade” by Peter Maguire:
“Dawson flew to Vientiane, Laos, and in a stall in the central market, saw the most beautiful, golden-yellow marijuana he had ever seen. “Mamasan had the fall line, in piles just like beans and rice,” he recalled. “The hill tribes grew the pot on the little islands in the Mekong River.” The American introduced himself to the betel nut-chewing woman who ran the stall and paid her for only the top buds of her finest plants. Dawson carefully instructed her son to break them up by hand and grind them into dust with a sieve. “Why do sticks? Why do branches? Why do leaves? It was a special product.” wrote Dawson. “His family ground gigantic bales into the powdered marijuana I called the ‘Golden Voice.” Like most pot smugglers, although opium and heroin were readily available, Dawson refused to deal in any opiates. He believed that marijuana, hashish, and LSD were tools of enlightenment, while heroin and even alcohol were not. When the first ten pounds of Terry Dawson’s Laotian “Golden Voice” arrived in Honolulu via the APO in 1968, it caused an overnight sensation and sold out in days for the unheard-of price of $1,000 per pound. “Already ‘the voice is a legend among Oahu’s growing secret society of potheads. No other weed is anything like it,” wrote Michael MePherson in his novel Rigers of the Sun. “It’s ganja, the golden voice from Laos, the most powerfully psychedelic marijuana I’ve ever smoked, noted for its delayed effect.”*
@Kagyu1 is the man. Much respect. This line has had my eye for awhile now but no way i’m getting in on that auction. Anyways, here’s what I found:
In the Air Force in the 70s, we were often fortunate to get Thai Stick flown in at government expense. Good times.
