Grodan 15cm, Gelato, Critical Kush

Hello, this is my first grow cycle in 7 years. Previously, I had a decent experience growing tomatoes and cucumbers using hydroponics in my small 50 m² greenhouse. Around the same time, I also had a few cycles with cannabis on a coco substrate.

However, now I’m facing some challenges—I’ve been trying to get my grow box running for two months, but the plants aren’t doing very well.

I’ve decided to start from scratch and really hope for the community’s help.

My Grow Setup:

  • Grow box: 80×80 cm
  • Lighting: Sanlight EVO 3-80 1.5, 200W
  • Ventilation: PrimaKlima PK 125EC-TC, max. 680 m³/h
  • Substrate: Grodan Delta Kulturblock XL, 15×15×14.2 cm
  • Irrigation: Drip system with substrate weight control
  • Nutrition: CANNA Hydro

I also have a monitoring system for key parameters: temperature, humidity, and substrate weight.

Climate in the Grow Box:

  • Temperature: 22–26°C
  • Humidity: 60–75%

Strains I’ll Be Growing:

3x Gelato and 3x Critical Kush from Barney’s Farm .

Alright, here we go!

I will germinate the seeds in a moist cellulose napkin at a temperature of 25°C.

4th day from seed soaking:

Six days since seed soaking:

Seven days since seed soaking:

  • PPFD: 140
  • Temperature: 21–22°C
  • Humidity: 70%

Transplanted into cubes:

  • Grodan Delta - 4X4X2.4 inches

Pre-soaked with:

  • Ph - 5.8
  • EC - 0.7
  • Bayer Previcur Energy - 6 ml / 10 l
  • Canna Rhizotonic - 20 ml / 10 l
  • Canna Hydro Vega

It seems like something is going wrong again:

In my opinion, the seedling in the first photo doesn’t look too pale.

Good morning, are you running your lights at full 200 watts, if so this is too much for the seedlings, I’d germinate seedlings under 75-100 watts max. Your setup sounds good.

Hello
This time I’m using a dimmer that I had a chance to calibrate from: Quantum Sensors - PAR Meters | Apogee Instruments

And at the moment the illumination is around 140 ppfd, which is about 10-15% of the power.

Thanks for the reply!

Alright aim for 75-80 watts first week, then gradually start to increase the wattage, now that you mention the lack of wattage they do look a bit stretchy, but healthy, best of luck!

Did you presoak the rockwool? Its generally advised to presoak at 5.3 due to the high ph of the cubes themselves. Once presoaked, all good.
If you didn’t, I would recommend rinsing the cubes heavily with nutrient solution at 5.7 or 5.8. the pH-induced deficiency symptoms will quickly resolve if that is the cause of the issues. I run cuts and babies in rockwool, and if I forget to presoak to fix the pH, they look like yours do now.
Could be something else, but this is an easy fix if its the cause. If its not the cause, no harm done.

Hi, I have cubes from a new batch of Grodan, they changed the binder and now the Ph of the cubes is originally 5,8.
But I still soaked them for 24 hours and stabilized the Ph.
So it is unlikely that this is the problem.
They look a bit better today)

Hadn’t heard about the binder change, but would make sense with the new-ish white wrapped cubes. Hope they come around!

Day 10 since soaking:

  • PPFD: 100
  • Temperature: 21–22°C
  • Humidity: 70%
  • Substrate humidity 80%

Took a syringe draw from the Ph control cube and found as much as 7.3.

This is a bit strange, as the cubes were soaked for 24 hours with Ph correction to 5.7.
Then they were rinsed abundantly with 5.7 solution.

In addition, large cubes on the background were foolishly prematurely soaked with the same parameters, I took an extract from them too and there Ph was 5.7.

Small spots appeared on the leaves.

The substrate was washed with a solution of Ph 5.2 Ec 0.7
Now Ph in the cubes is 5.7.

In your opinion, are the plants developing normally for the 10th day since soaking?

It has been 7 days since germination.

By the way, from what period is it correct to count time?

Thank you all!
