I have germinated a few seeds starting with afpak from old school breeder’s association, a Thai 78 from them as well. Also in this round I am trying out DJ shorts Flo, from ILGM I am hatching some white widow and I hope my last two chemfog seeds get going I had four seeds but when I went to pick them out they slipped out of my hands and into the tub I kept looking for them but couldn’t find the other two.
here’s a quick picture of the dome I will update soonThe dome is off and they are starting their journey I lost my chemfog strain, I would like to find that again. Very stinky strain she was one of my favorites from my previous garden. So currently I have Three Thai 78’ two afpak two white widow and two dj short Flo the widow is feminized so she is certain. The others I will have to sex in the coming months. Currently using Mother Earth potting soil for the seedlings then once they are ready for transplanting I will switch to Coco coir I have nutrients for coco coir from House and Garden and since I switched to using this brand I haven’t been disappointed. I plan on putting one Thai outside once she’s ready. Hope you enjoy this new setup and let’s take this journey together
I’m having trouble with a couple of my seedlings the stem is purple and they are not growing very well. They are still at the early stage of growing where I really can’t use nutrients. I should have ph’d my water but normally I never have issues with this in the beginning. My dj short flo is not doing well and one of my afpaks is going the same way. The Thai strains are doing great and the other white widow is looking good but the dj short flo and one of my afpak are not doing so good. What can I do or should I just get rid of the weaker ones? Thank you for any advice or suggestions and help
I use a sterile medium and no nutrients (just well water) for at least 2 weeks. I’m skeptical of the potting soil. Is it too hot?
Yeah that’s my concern I lost a few seedlings I was using Mother Earth brand normally I like to use straight coco coir but I didn’t go buy it this time because I was being lazy so now I will be switching over to coco for the rest of my grow. Lesson learned not to be lazy.
The ones moving slow recovering from to much water (humidity) and heat, providing a boiling effect. Looks like you got it under control. Heat is gonna be an issue, I’m not doing another indoor grow till October. The most difficult grows I’ve ever done was summer indoor.
What kind of light are you useing?
It’s gonna be a long hot summer, stay cool.
Interested in your San Marzano tomato plant, I’ll trade yah some cannabis seeds for some of them when you harvest some tomato’s.
Have a great Thursday.
I’ve heard really great things about Mother Earth soil. It’s one the local Rural King carries. I’d give it another try if you’re into trying again. Im going to give “dirt craft” a try next year
Starting seeds they tend to like just coir or a nutrientless medium.
I’m using a Spider brand LED LIGHT so heat’s not too much of an issue. I have really good inline fans I have a 6” spider farmer brand inline fan, I have a 10” Vortex s series inline fan that I am about to install again. I also have the atmosphere carbon filter to go along with the Vortex fan and a smaller filter from spider farmer and I am investing in an air conditioner for my apartment so I think with all of the above equipment my temperatures are pretty good. Especially once I get the ac unit then my cat and I will be much more comfortable as well as the garden. I will be putting a bigger LED light in once I get ready to flower it’s the spider farmer 4000 I used it before with good results. I’m guessing you are a culinary person like myself? San Marzano is one of my favorite varieties of tomatoes. I would like to experiment with some volcanic ash from our most famous volcano Mount Saint Helens since the San Marzano was originally grown in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius but of course I’m indoor and not outdoor but I think it might do a little something extra? My plan is to make some cuttings from the San Marzano plant so I can grow her indefinitely. What strains are you working with? I’m probably going to pull more seeds out of my collection in a month or so and get them started. I know the Thai strains will take the longest but the pay off will be great flavor and high wise last time I harvested my Thai strains early so getting them all the way through will be really nice.
It’s definitely going to be a hot summer
I went swimming at the lake and was tanning without sunscreen so today I’m a little bit crispy on my skin but that’s fine you get the one burn. I should have bought Sun screen but I used to have a few different types until I tried flying to Vegas and they made me throw it away because I was only bringing my backpack at the time.
Update today changed up the layout for the garden they are looking great feeding them General Hydroponics Flora Nova also using Dominion Organics Benefox and root rocket as well as extreme gardening mykos, azos I finally found all of my blue lab ph, ppm meters this morning I was digging through all of my storage bins and found them with my two 315 watt HID lights from my friends old shop Hydrotech. Not that I will be using them any time soon. The LED’s are all I need. Looking forward to transplanting them into my airpots and setting up a drip system I will eventually have to buy new supplements because Dominion Organic’s is no longer making nutrients or additives. Blair the founder and owner passed away a couple years ago which is sad he was a really amazing guy I only met him once or twice at my friends shop but I really felt his nutrients were on another level and I like supporting my local business instead of some random company. Why am I using GH then you ask? I have had great success with it in the past and until I find another company that I really like I will stick to the tried and true.
Anyone here in the pnw know of any good organic nutrients made locally I’m interested.
That’s it for now peace out Bloodaxe
Smart!
Bunches of people use GH. I have tried a number of nutrients and keep coming back to GH.
I agree with @AppalachianBiscuits GH works great and easy to use, definitely a favorite of mine.
@Madhillbomber2419 sounds and looks like you got a nice setup for growing, the latest update shows your plants are recovering very well. Sunscreen is mandatory here just to take the garbage out to the road I grow tomatoes for eating and trading with others from the community garden and neighbors who have fruit trees. I currently grow Florida 91 hybrid beef steak tomatoes.
My favorite sandwich for a snack or a meal.
Here’s hoping you had a good weekend despite the sunburn.
Very nice I’m definitely looking for another variety of tomatoe to grow and if I could I would like to have a pomegranate tree. One day when I can finally have my own house instead of a studio apartment I would like to garden like my grandparents used to. Every summer I would go help out with my grandparents doing garden work or other projects she used to also do a lot of canning of fruits and vegetables and other stuff like smoked salmon or sauces etc. I never got to learn that part from her but being a gardener definitely comes from my family.
Update looking good in a few weeks I will be transplanting the ladies, I will be dropping off two plants to my friend who I used to grow with back in the day. He was the one who turned me onto GH but I was the one who showed him about using different types of additives but now he just grows during the summer out in his backyard which I’m a little bit jealous of he’s got it all the garden a bunch of bbq’s and a few different types of smoker’s. I will be transplanting to airpots and then adding a drip line to continuously feed them.
Those transplants are going to thrive.
Ohhhh my look at all the tomato sandwiches i could make!
My grandparents were my primary learning for gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, growing orchids in a green house that my grandfather built. Ahhhhh memories, I hope you get a chance to grow your pomegranate tree and sit under it smoking your home grown and smiling about the days you you were growing in your studio apartment. Keep your dreams alive… it’s the only way to achieve them.
Your plants look good, looking forward to seeing them take off in the airpot drip system.
2 questions: is the white on the tomato plant leaves a part of variegation or a nutrient problem and what kind of peppers are those?
The white is actually a little burning from being sprayed with water and the pepper variety is a Serrano pepper plant I wanted to get a habanero plant but they were completely out. I’m going to adjust my spraying regime to include Yucca extract which should help make the plants happier when being sprayed.
Well that’s a good question which varieties am I interested in maybe a golden cherry tomato variety I see them every now and then.
Otherwise I’m not sure I guess something local to my region here in Washington state not really sure what the husky tomato variety is or if it’s just a name thrown on a tomato plant that they wanted to market as? Something else that will make good sauce like the San Marzano.
Update just recently trimmed up the bottoms of all the plants minus the pepper plant and the catnip plant but everything is thriving and looking good. I just switched the timer to flowering now so I can sex them and get onto flowering these beauties I don’t want the Thai to get too stretchy last time I let them veg too long and ended up with a mess. They look like they can start flowering now I need to change out the light and place the carbon filter with the big vortex fan. I was doing some reading here on some of the strains I have like the DJ short Flo from what I’ve read it’s saying 7 weeks to finish? That seems really fast? The Thai will take 14 weeks the afpak I believe is 8 weeks and the white widow is 8-9 weeks. Anyone have any tips about the dj short Flo. I’m definitely looking forward to some delicious chronic, this fall and winter. On a side note I have just started my official Muay Thai training and I have been running through my local park building up more stamina and endurance and good cardio for Muay Thai boxing.
I’ll post more pictures as the flowering gets underway.
