Grow Room Is Hot

Hello all,

Just moved to a new house. I have decided to give a window unit a try to cool my room. I’m not happy about the window unit as the window faces the front of the house. A mini split is not in the cards right now and I’ve read that portables suck. Tents are venting into the room and it’s hot! Venting to the attic vents is also not an option. Can anyone recommend a window unit and size to cool it down in here.

-Room size 150sq ft. ±

-2 tents and a cfl box: a 3x3 with 315 cmh and a 5x5 with 2 315 cmh and 3 HLG qb96’s. 200 watt cfl small supercloset. Thank you!

You should be good with 5000BTU

Thank you for the response @Oldtimerunderground

You’re welcome @CrunchBerries, I would also say to make sure it’s not on the same breaker as the lights and other equipment too. Don’t want to have any accidents. You may want to consider a dehumidifier as well, if the ac can’t keep your rh in check

Sounds like a nice setup you have, especially the 5x5. Good lighting.

Dehumidifier I have, but not sure about the breakers. I’m guessing but I am imagining everything in that room is on the same breaker. Let me check…

Yup, just as I suspected. Room is on the same breaker.

Man I’d size up from 5,000 BTU the bigger models aren’t much more money get a 10,000 if you can and it’ll just run less, 10K unit is about 900 watts. Lotta humidity generated from that room too. 5K will help a lot but if you got the wattage for it, size up…portables are a bit less efficient but often have just a dehumidifier setting.

Yes, your really want 2 (or more) circuits…
I mapped out all of the breakers in the house and found I could add a box in my grow room from a separate Cct in the adjacent room (through the closet).

Check your layout, I’ll bet you find a good solution.

If you can run a fixable duct from a air condition room with an in-line fan directly into the tent the cold air from the other room cools the tent then bent into the room

This is exactly what I do and it works wonders

I run a splitter from the house into 3 tents

Yes, I ran a separate line which was stated as mandatory by manufacture. We added a breaker and ran the new line thru conduit.

I have central now.
