Growers pet peeves

So I was thinking about a few of the little annoying things cannabis growers do or pretend… Let’s start with pheno hunting haha. Basically anyone who is popping a seed or running a strain likes to use the pheno hunting term but most of the time I for one just want a nice healthy plant with good terps and frost. Check out YouTube so-called content creators and tons of videos are pheno hunting crap that is simply growing a couple strains. If you’re actually popping dozens or hundred+ yeah please reference pheno hunting but otherwise sorry man it’s just growing herb.

And yeah I guess bro science can be mixed into this topic since that’s what comes to mind… anybody dumping loads of ice near the end of harvest to try to attempt to purple a plant? Haha

I call this “Perusing for a decent plant.”

Pet Peeve: Content creators who have the time to do a dozen videos about their plants instead of just getting on with growing their plants.

Haha yeah and sadly I spend too much time watching that crap. There is an interesting guy from the Middle East can’t remember his name but appears to be Taliban growing cannabis and opium in large fields with cool landrace strains

What grinds my gears is when people say their crosses are “FIRE” but have not grown them out, tested, or even can provide any evidence of the parent plants. Like no documentation of the grow what so ever!!!

I have some local growers in a facebook group that do this and sell of their seeds…

Another is saying they know more about the cultivars that some breeders have worked and only evidence to “disprove” that the information is inaccurate because “they have been smoking for so long that they know”

The egos that come out in the cannabis scene are something else. I really like this forum because it’s often not really an issue like other forums but it seems like a lot of people forget that this is all for the most part a subjective and individual experience. Nobody experiences a strain exactly the same as someone else and lots of people will have entirely opposite reactions due to their brain chemistry.

There are many paths that all lead to the same place. Its up to the individual to determine if theyre on the right path

Yeah man for sure and I think cannabis growers forget that gardening has been around for many years haha so some of these novelty ideas aren’t quite what they claim to be. When I took a master Gardener’s course in 2019 big time humbling experience but so much of the marijuana hype involves being underground or black market for all of these years

Like most businesses, a language has been developed to make it appear more difficult than it is, especially to newcomers.

Everyone is the best grower ever. No has fire like them :rofl::rofl:

My biggest pet peeve, is ME.
I’m forgetful, I make notes, then lose them.
I let my veg plants stay in small containers far to long.
I let my spent pots build up, until it’s a whole days work to undo all of them, laying out a tarp, separating the mulch topping from the medium, then mineralize the pile, mix it up well, shovel the medium into the storage totes, stack up the pots.
Then go find the next thing I put off for later!
What a jerk.

Truth some of my best “fire” has been from humble chuckers who are just passionate.

I’ve paid good money and been disappointed as shit. Haha

Our plants demand so much out of us man haha it’s hard to live up to the expectations. But if you’re like me it’s hard to trust anybody else to do even the remedial tasks like a simple watering or pruning. When I have asked my wife to help immediately go running in there to double and triple check the work like a maniac

mine is as of late fairly recently it has occurred to me that almost all of the content creators on meta platforms are all sponsored by a couple of companies and most of their content is pushing someone else’s product its like the R rated shopping channel no meat just fluff i still remember before the purges on the tube good old days white boards and mixing nutes crawling around swimming pools with the weed nerd bowling alleys full of plants

Key word is humble. I’m convinced the lack of ego plays a huge role in this

It happens… And with some of the bigger names in the game. Especially with beans. It’s luck of the draw especially when it’s not a worked line.

I mean how many of us have bought F1 generation of beans because two well known cultivars were crossed and they’re selling for $100 plus a pack and stock photos.

I prefer the smaller op/home guys who are still documenting and showing the moms and dads they’re working with of their crosses.

Hell there is quite the handful here that’s for sure. I’ve ran a lot of good gear from chuckers/small batch breeders from OG for the last few years.

Or guys who are renting some big, old house with beautiful hardwood floors and don’t think a thing about setting up a grow in that space or what they are doing to the floors…

It’d be grower death here…LOL. Serious damage…and not to the floor.
