Growing With Mr.Sparkle : 2021

I bought a few plants to put in a pot for the wife the other day. Couldn’t help but thinking the same thing. Look at all these side by side not always cared about plants. What are chances of bringing something unwanted home to. Washed up after putting it out on the porch just to be safe! Lol

Yeah you are right. But they do have it in the UK it’s called kokosnöt, and in other places odla. Was reading in some UK 420 site and someone had great results comparing to some other specialized Coco medium.

I did check the IKEA Canada site and they have some cool “herb trimming scissors” :joy:

Lol they do indeed, I would of checked them out yesterday when I was there if I knew though had a very specific list so was in and out using all the shortcuts.

My favourite part is when she plays the flute (or the recorder or whatever wind instrument it is).

It’s a recorder… Or an instrument from hell if played by a child or adult that think it’s cool to annoy everyone :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah ODLA here is still LECA “hydroton” now if it was coco coir that would be a different story, mind you would need to meet that cost metric as in i can buy a 50L bag of Canna for $20 a couple blocks away from ikea so just depends.

My first and last instrument

Odla is the growing materials they sell I guess, like a line of product kind of thing. I know they have different products available worldwide, like the grow kit isn´t available in some countrys.

oh well…

Wednesday update.

Left side, front PRxCD’s i switched to water only this morning and will just be hand feeding them to the end, left plant is doing the top foxtail thing which typically only happens at end of life, most of the pistils are orange and took a look at the trichromes which are a mix of clear and cloudy with some amber here and there so they get a week most likely i’ll gauge at that point seed matureness on the one plant though so far they are getting there as i plucked one last night to check.

Back Cinderevil is starting to swell up from the pollination it’s going to feel like a long wait though till there done… likely it will be booted to the top cab though i need to buy a new carbon filter before that and reclaim the carbon from my current one to make a filter for that cab as any flowering plant that goes up there stinks up the place relatively quick.

Also the left GRxCD’s are moving along and liking the more normal level feed.

Right Side looking rougher then how they are currently, that attempt at lower feed they really didn’t like and im just seeing all the damage from it they are turning around though, Also just becoming spikes due to mishaps this run trying to figure out feed levels and pH requirements.

Also the seedlings that are hiding in there are doing well.

Well shit, lesson learnt all these pH issues and i finally did a rundown test of what was in my bags, turns out the Promix Hp was fine at 6.2 though the Potting moisture mix bag was 4.75, and me combining the two with dolomite lime added was 5.35ish.

Kinda anti perlite to a certain extent and would prefer to use mixes that have little of it in them though saying that im also seeing the issues with a more peat heavy mix as i tend to either run too wet and or too dry and its like balancing on a sharp crest hill, that once you go over the balance point its hard to bring it back.

Well screw it just go run straight HP for these seedling and see how it goes

Man that is the cleanest grow room ever. I keep mine clean too but this is on another level. Thus the name @Mr.Sparkle I guess. Beautiful plants too. Hats of to you my friend.

I am always so impressed with your plants and how amazing they look for being in smaller containers! Bravos @Mr.Sparkle amazeballz as usual!!!

Hey @Mr.Sparkle! Been following along for awhile and in the process of finalizing all the setup on our cab. I originally planned to grow in a water only soil mix, but we recently got a couple of Aerogarden setups for herbs, lettuces, peppers and tomatoes. The wife loves it so much she went “why not do it like that?” Even suggested shoving one or two in the cab lol. It got me thinking about your setup and I was hoping you could answer a couple questions for me. I already found all the parts to build the pumps and timers and all like you showed. I was thinking of a couple possible ways and wanted to see if you think they’re viable.

The first is 3x HDX 7-Gal Totes with two plants in 3 gal fabric pots on each. Would those pots be too large, or should I use solid pots? I already have the 3 gal fabric, but I think I can return them still (Amazon).

The other way was with the 17gal version of that tote but with 6x inset net pots and 2 pumps. Kind of like a dwc, but I’d rather not run air pumps constantly as I will be sharing a room with it. I assume I will have to have a separate timer for each pump still on this setup.

Also, are there any resources you know of that explain how to wire (pretty sure I know how, but would rather just be sure) and program the timers? Would a Sonoff work?

Sorry for all the questions, and again if you’ve already answered them.

EDIT: This is the relay I found on Amazon. It looks to be the same you had in your build link.

two three gallons would be a bit over kill for a 7 gal tub, though going that big will allow greater times between waterings, as for fabric vs solid thats your choice though ill comment on it fabric in an auto watering setup and just in general you tend to get alot of side evaporation going on and salt buildup due to that also when top watering repeatedly water will typically just run to the side then down them instead of pushing through your root ball, where as solid pot you only get surface evaporation and the water is more likely to be pushed through more evenly disadvantage though is with over watering solid containers you can create a perched water table effectively making the bottom of your pots dead zones just as they arent given time to dry out, fabric pots dont have that issue.

Also for setup you dont need to have a full water recirculating setup you can just have a res on the side with an autowater and limit the amount you feed to not push too much through and just collect the run off in a tray you empty periodically.

As for timers, sonoff’s can be used, or like the timers i use, or even the sinotimers i use for my lights though advantages and disadvantages to all, the ones like mine are just smaller 12v timers and at least my versions the max duration between waterings is 999min so say i want to only water once a day i cant do that with my timers so i have to split my waterings and say do every 720min=12hrs, sonoffs and the sinotimers you can set them up to have a longer period in between and also can run 120v pumps, im just not a fan of sonoff’s due to various reasons have used them but when to more basic less issue based timers like my sinotimers
