New year new thread, I’ll preface this year i likely wont be updating or growing much just with life, family and other hobbies also taking time.
So setup wise i recently did a rebuild to reduce down into a single cabinet from my previous 3 just cause of actual use and refinement, the difference this new single cab is a bit bigger at 4sqft and utilizing a 40" door, so overall gained 1sqft and 10" of usable height vs one of my previous 3 cabinets, other thing is a regained a lot of closet space back that i have yet to utilize with some new shelves and such which will be good once i figure out what i want to do there
My lights are 10 repurposed Bridgelux 4000k F90’s in a 560mm length from my previous cabinets connected to one of my previous drivers that being a xlg-150 and all that mounted directly to the roof.
Ventilation I’ve reduced down to a 4" filter that i’m running as a push through for space and location consideration and am just using a 120mm p12max pc fan which will eventually be hooked up to a basic speed controller, now will it be effective that’s yet to be determined but I’ve done some heat tests and it seems like it may be up for the task, also i have three 92mm PC fans mounted on the walls for circulation.
Control is just left overs from my previous stuff using some simple 110v Sinotimers for the lights and just a regular plug in timer as a master controller for my watering pump timers, Watering wise will be the same as previous years and will be running my leftover parts of some DIY auto waters composed of about $20 of parts.
My reservoirs are just some Ikea Uppsnofsad bins with holes cut in the lids to lower my pots to conserve on some space and allow them to bottom wick if the water level is high enough adding some extra capacity if i’m away for say a week to 10days. Pot sizes vary from the small starting cups to 400ml/900ml and some bigger 1.6ish liter ones if i remember correctly.
Media i use is bagged coco a with Nutrient choices ranging from Jacks, to Megacrop, or plant prod stuff with me currently running levels and ratios like how Athena is run.
Yeah another hobby which that stack is only some of and not normally stored vertically im actually in the triple digit amount right now for discs which is definitely not needed but field/putting practice with duplicates can account for a decent portion of that.
I play typically once-twice a week those being saturday and sunday morning just cause thats when i have time and dragging the kid along with me giving the wife some free time to herself, and i do putting/short approach practice “60-115ft” after work sometimes at my only “local” community centre 3 basket setup im happy to have, used to be daily but kid daycare pickup and such has kiboshed that, so i fit it in where i can.
a. your setup looks great!
b. I thought your name seemed familiar other than OG.
c. I was out for errands and saw the sign for this place on a route I take a couple times a month and it all made sense:
So gonna toss the bottom ones for structure and growth reasons and up pot the others to the next size even if they don’t have root systems that warrants it yet, reason being is then i can get them setup to be ready to go with auto waters when they need it.
And ill start some more seeds to fill the gaps or another reservoir once these are sexed or selected down a bit further.
may be a wise move went to a seminar at a cup one time they were talking a bout this. it was way over my head for the most part, from what i got it is caused by 1 of 2 things they were calling it acne it is viral load of some sort or just genetics either way i get rid of them as well
Yeah what I’ve found is typically the leafs growth pattern is sporadic and not linar cell wise so the leafs are easy to rip and just not as healthy, and it’s definely a genetic thing that may get exasperated by what the plant deems “rougher” grow conditions but usually even if good conditions the plant won’t grow out of it or by the time they donuts not really worth it.
So hooked up the auto waters tonight, have been holding the plants back to this point just from my watering infrequency and next to zero maintenance so they could be steps ahead right now if some effort was put in.
They will start to take off now that the watering is setup and ready to go for tomorrow morning when the timers kick on.
Do you generally grow them out until you deem some unworthy or do you let them do there thing? I mean do you start with room for all of the plants to flower and go forward?
Wondering as well about coco. Do your plants seem to do better in coco under a drip setup? I’m not trying to ask rookie questions. I’ve been wanting to build a flood table for a couple years now. My uncle works at a plastics shop. They have medical plastic board that they use in John Hopkins. I wouldn’t say it’s anti bacterial but he was explaining some of the properties of it. I figured the downside of flood tables/water drip is algae.
Anyways, it’s always a pleasure to see you do your thing. Thanks for all the help over the years. My chair is in place. Be safe out there.
