Growing with Mr.Sparkle : 2025

Yeah they grow out till i deem them unworthy or whatever, but considering if Regulars or feminized i typically will be starting a bit more than i can handle regardless of whether i can keep them all.

So say “max” with drippers is 12 plants with my small pots in this cab, ill probably start say 1.5x to 2x that or more depending, as some wont sprout or are late to the party, then some may have leaf/growth issues i dont want to deal with, then removing males if they are in the mix, leaving the rest to be selected from to fill said spots, but say the selection leaves less than said spots then ill up pot to either fit two per res or ever one per res with a larger up pot and lid change. So wouldn’t be un expected for me to start with 18 above ground plants but say reduce them down to 3 in the end.

As for coco, yes its better than soil for myself and my application reason being is it doesn’t get water logged in the same way as say soil or promix does and is more efficient volume of media vs output like in the 2x times factor compared to promix, now if your watering in frequently or say every 3-4 days thats where the larger pot volumes and soil can be beneficial.

As for a flood table honestly imo go drippers as a true ebb and flow flood table the amount of water one needs to do the cycles is alot, vs just watering what you need plus some run off, but really and container that you can drain runoff from or act as a reservior will work, storage bins ect.

Ahhh, that makes so much sense. Giving yourself options by examining a larger pool of suspects. Like a line up. Lol. Na really, you explain things with ease and I’m glad to have gotten to know you on here. Literally you guys are a fountain of info. It helps me sometimes, just bouncing some ideas off another grower.

Very cool. I can’t wait to see what your little purple seedling is gonna look like.. Thanks a ton sir.

So even though i hooked them up to the autowaters what i didn’t do was tune in the watering schedule and have been essentially flooding them for the last week.

My very low effort is showing its results in spades lol.

Anyways i should have some seeds in pots come Monday and in the picture below the 5 on the right are undetermined with the two below being males that im just gonna let dry out a bit. Whatever is left of these ill keep going for now until new seeds surpass them or i toss them out in refinements.

Really have no reason to keep them, but also am fine with keeping them going for now.

well tossed all but one of the older ones as most of the better plants were males, plus figured starting a new batch with a bit more attention was the better course of action.

So here is day 0

Didn’t keep many of the new small ones just running into things due to my lack of due diligence and a possible sneaking suspicion of the organic compounds in my current nutrients causing some issues compared to how i typically run.

So i started some more seeds with a bit more normal and thorough starts to see if my nutrients may be exasperating things before switching just to use up what i got first if i can.

Also just added a 12v Sinotimer which i realized today that i ordered the wrong pinout version vs what i wanted but made it work as intended regardless, but i mounted that within the cab for main control of my watering system reducing down to just one 12v power converter to run everything vs the two i had with one being on a standard plug in timer external to the cabinet that was in a hard to see spot now making things less cluttered and more streamlined.

Also add a cheap $5 PWM Fan controller that has a temp sensor as well, as it was always the plan to add some pwm control for my exhaust fan in this setup just to run it less than full all the time if possible but this controller with temp control will be nice cause then the fan can ramp down to a set level during colder periods and lights off, ill just have to find that balance of how slow i can go while making sure the high transpiration that happens during light off is still taken care of.

Still need to mount it and black out the side leds with a marker that i cant toggle off unlike the display leds.

Been a little more attentive, hooked up the autowater’s earlier in the week for the one reservoir , obviously the plant liked it and i have been cycling the mid sized ones in the spot opposite it just so they dont get over watered, really enjoy the upgrade to the main watering timer makes control a bunch easier, been playing with 2 cycles of watering once in the morning and one just before noon, with waterings every 20mins when on, likely ill decrease the time between waterings making them more frequent but having shorter watering windows but a few more cycles during the day, just to allow dry periods.

Also just up potted the other three plants this morning toss the others, no idea on the sex of the little ones, but just kept the healthy ones.

Going along, showing some issues High P im guessing in older leaves and some crispy easily damaged leaves else where, should check EC and pH levels in the reservoirs

Saying that im already running at a lower 75% concentration so issues shouldn’t be too bad, but still suspecting the nutrients just aren’t working for me as well as id like compared to my previous stuff so may finally pony up and get new nutrients this coming week.

Also the three little ones have yet to be sexed, and you may notice a little one that i pulled from one of the other pots that was a late pop up so it got it own little pot for now.

The one plant is getting there and the two that are now on the left i might toss giving the other ones space and maybe an up pot or ill just start some more seeds.

Still very low effort and working out watering, did have the biggest plant go dry a couple days back.

Removed the two plants and moved seem things around, no rush to start seeds but i might.

Getting there plants went dry on one side but because the wire had corroded and broke on the one pump which was a quick fix with a snip, strip and re-solder, took like a good 4-5 years to get that way so no complaints,

Also removed the forth plants as even though as large as it was and starting into flower really showed no trichome production, so would rater start new then waste another 4-6+ weeks on that.

Also been down with a virus for the last week, just want the damn thing to be gone but managing day by day, whole family got hit, which came from extended family.

I hope you feel better soon.

me too, am on the mend but killing two weekends sure does suck.

And plants looks good for the amount of effort ive given them which is very little, should start some new seeds soon, and maybe start some selection seed making just so im not going through as much crap atm.

Chopped the one plant and made some rosin from it, bud was still too wet so got a bunch of water pushed over with it and seeings how the base bud was purple, i now have some purple rosin.

Need to start some seeds but will be gone this weekend. and two from now, so may just be better to do nothing.

Chopped the tall one this morning as i had woken up early with the kid still sleeping allowed me to get some other stuff done too.

trays 175g though i should remark it as its fading, but should be about 50g dry in the end for that one plant.

Aloha Mr Sparkle, I’ve been a fan since your “bogan” days, and I’m building a micro grow myself. I was just wondering why you moved on from the solstrips? I’m not the best when it comes to clean soldering, and I was looking to purchase a veg light for 2’x4’x2’, so I was thinking about the solstrips, as I remember you would overgrow the heck out of those cabs and get the plants pretty close to the lights, but wasn’t sure about the heat. Thanks, keep up the great work.

Honestly cause at the time i had an issue with some new strips due to inadequate packing and baudelaire didn’t want to remedy the as arrived damage strips with some replacements and we got into verbal tussle about it.

In hind sight certain spec listed on his site were how would you say in the “grey area” of truth, the strips worked don’t get me wrong, but with issues and what not i was pissed off enough to ditch them completely, and they did get hot especially in comparison to say below.

But now and with how bridgelux strips have dominated the budget option for years with high outputs and no soldering required and no heatsinks, bridgelux strips just made more sense to me and alot of people.

The other thing is now commercial options have gotten to price points and efficiencies that are better than said strips that unless you have some custom space then the off the shelf options are just better whether for price, efficiency, plug and play, multi light integration, automation ect ect.

Now for you consider if your just lighting the space mentioned even just for veg you dont need much to do so, and one could easily pickup some plug and play panels from certain online retailers, heck you could get enough to flower as well for what it may cost you otherwise, and if wanting to go the budget route that’s where bridgelux strips can come in, but again there are some cheap panel options.

One point to make though if one is say located in the states the prices are gonna go up across the board once current supplies deplete due to trump tariffs, where as us elsewhere wont feel that pain.

Oh and harvest that other plant last week, got the buds all dried and in terploc bags and will likely squish them later, got something like 56ish grams off the one and 37ish off the small one. or some where around there. Will likely start some seeds after the weekend just not around thus i didnt want to start any in the last week or two, and really no need to start any other than to just grow some plants.
