This is something we could do well to get a handle on. The best solution I can give is not to use LEDs to get your temps air/leaf surface etc up cos you’ll just cook the plants. It’s better to use a small heater to do that work. Those greenhouse tube heaters are what I used to use but I don’t have one just now. It’s a very basic temporary setup untill we get a house move. I’ve been chasing my own tail trying to keep temps high enough all winter but I end up frying them again and burning more power than they can actually use. It’s also lowering the low RH during veg so I’m having to run a humidifier during winter in one of the wettest climates on earth
You can get them in lengths of one up to four feet so their almost perfect for micro grows
yeah a heater like that would consume more energy many fold than say my lights and not really feasible, its more the exhaust fan that can dictate how much heat is held or extracted just that humidity is also effected at the same time, im also in a temp range that never gets say cold as its household ambient or hotter.
A one foot tube heater is 60W if i remember right so running one of them and reducing the light should just about balance out is my thinking.
I used to have at least 3 of the 3 foot versions running all through winter, and a dehumidifier, and a 600W hps and a 250W for the veg space, fans etc…never used to get much snow on our roof lol
Well whats up, shuffled the right cab around and removed the one grcd, i’ll likely up plant the right hand smaller one today at some point the left smaller one is being sprayed, the Strawberry Short crack in the back left is chugging along at a consistent pace which has impressed me as its kinda nice not having a plant bolt but instead just consistently working and a continual pace, a little damage on that plant from getting to a point where no run off was being forced which is all good now with a longer watering duration.
Left cab had a couple removals with possibly the seafoam green pots to follow if those SSC don’t start going now that im alternating them on and off the auto watering. The plan for these GRCD’s is again if a couple pop out looking decent then hopefully there will be some pollen for them, and otherwise we will be moving on to other plants after these go through.
Also now im breaking my intention of splitting up different runs in different threads though its just is easier to keep it in one thread so may need to change the thread name, here are some younger photos i just re-potted last night, Galactic Hash Plants in the grey, and Tonygreen BubbleGorilla BX5’s in the green pots.
And the photos, where i seriously need to hunt down some reservoirs which unfortunately will like be clear ones, or ill pull out my half sized ones and try to use those for now, they just wont fit all the plants.
A bunch of the plants showing a little damage though think it was from a past pH drop from not enough run through, since the change to correct that the plants are fine i just think past issues are now showing as the plants continue on or so i guess, some actually show nute excess damage but may be once the pH level in the root zone the plants started drinking alot without being selective causing damage ?
Also increased the feed mainly on the large ones as 3 days ago i put it in at 1.6ec, yesterday res was 1.35ec with 1.1-1.2 ec run off in the larger plants, also went pack to buffering the pH a bit more than what the stock solution comes out as.
Was away for the weekend thus no update, plants doing alright few issues still present may just need to tweak my feed rate and ratio a little, as in more feed for the younger plants and overall and reduce the K a little potentially, alot looks like older damage surfacing.
Also did some minor defoliation, just shade leaves, lower hidden leaves and or damaged ones.
Photos are picking up well all that are on auto watering, also you may notice another addition which is a why not and will be receiving a whole lot of LITFA as trying a mini kratky bottle plant likey gonna add at least one more just to play with.
Did a refill today at least on the bottom two cabs, playing with some different ratios nute wise, “recommended” vs my own.
The plant being sprayed is showing some pollen sacs, though still gonna be a couple weeks likely so may not be enough time for the other plants, saying that the SSC threw a couple lower node pollen sacs and the back left GRCD also threw a single one…
Left hand side removed three of the GRCD’s, the reason is they expressed a whorled phylotaxis tri segmented singular shoot off there lower most nodes, nothing wrong in growing these out i just caution using them when the thought is of making seeds.
Also the loner Photo Galactic Hashplant got moved down so it had some automatic watering “grey pot left side”
As for the top they are progressing i need to do a res fill for them tonight or tomorrow also noticed high humidity in this chamber which is expected as the other two feed through this one so may have to move my sensor to it or just keep an eye on it for now.
And the Krakty bottle plant in the corner is doing its thing, 2 more will be joining it today as sacrifices to the learning gods.
Right chamber moving along, pollen sacs forming and the others are stacking buds, im so so on SSC atm just as it looks like its probably gonna be a thin budded plant though also seems to be of a longer running duration.
Top chamber, i let the photos go dry thus why they are rough looking had premixed nutes sitting in a bucket just didn’t get around to cleaning and filling the reservoirs so my fault on that for sure.
As for the mini kratky its just doing it thing, and i have another joining it, with two more seeds dunked last night.
Everything got a refill this morning at base plantprod bloom rates 1g/0.5g plus 0.3g epsom per liter
Right cab pulled out the sprayed pollen sac forming plant to put into the left cab for the time being, and move over one of the younger GRCD’s which i should consider repotting.
I dont have any on me past recollections they range but tend to be on the fruity side with some solvent tones more prominent on some plants, honest haven’t run enough of them or any as of late to have their smell in my memory.
Tbh it smells like a Chemmy bubble gum .it’s the most unique smell yet all three of them feel the same way ! …best part is she taste just as it smells and you can beat that!
Thanks for the experience brother !
Hi @curiouscat, as an attempt of being a smart a…, lol, believe those numbers are the equivalent days the plants have had, starting from seeds… @Mr.Sparkle will either confirm or clarify, thankfully…
Hope that helps
@Rabeats2093 and @Mr.Sparkle Hope I’m not butting in… 'cause I have one drying as we speak, went to it and took a few sniffs. Off the bat, sweet, it reminded me of honey, in the distance… yet, there’s some acidity to it, once again, berries came to my mind… Long story short, smells delicious and I can’t wait to try it… Not sure if it helps.
There’s also this herb, spice like greenish scent but I believe it has to do with it being recently chopped…
Every input helps ! It is such a delicious smell it reminds me of this smoke me and my buddy use to get off his ol dad talk about a old mountain man after a smoke test and a sniff test with the woman I have concluded it’s almost like a lylox/lavender berry splash with a faint hint of solvent bubble gum
Only one I’m missing out on trying is the lemon pie lol
Kid you not, as I was reading your post, Oregano came to mind, I mean some of the herbs we use in cooking be it Thyme, not sure now… no kidding lol Stoners…
