Been lurking a little today haha, an auto project sounds fun. Care to expand a little? I’m really enjoying autos at the moment so would possibly be able to contribute maybe.
Well still kinda fuzzy on details and probably should start a thread about it to start discussing it in more detail and with input, but just an idea right now.
What ive been thinking is to work towards a community shared and sourced loose auto project in that say either say initial seeds/varietals are provided and selected amongst us from what we currently have, then dispersed out to members where they can be grown out and further crossed to a next generation of seeds either within those seeds that were received and or by crossing in other genetics that those members already have or think worth while, and bringing those crosses back to be either redistributed or create a second round of seeds.
Like i said fuzzy in details.
But some of the stipulations i was thinking about was say making it so that all the seeds in said project were regular variety and not feminized so that the hurdle is as low as possible to allow anyone to participate in making their own seeds, whether just for themselves or to reshare to this community or personal relations/acquaintances. Im open to that not being the case and also going the feminized route but it does throw up some hurdles.
Also would be having a pretty tight opinion that only those plants that don’t show mutant, herm, or detrimental growth characteristics should be used to allow more stable offspring, obviously peoples opinons will differ on what is detrimental or not, but consensus could be done in those regards.
As for the seed packs i think that they should definitely be mixes, specifically because it would make everyone’s pack different and unique to them, and that make it interesting and exciting for what comes out of them. Also saying that everyone’s tastes on what they like or excites them differs from one another, so seeing what they select and why i think would be interesting and a good learning experience for all involved, and those that say go in a couple generations following something they like, those plants would be different than what someone else had selected, and would be very cool to grow out if shared back to see what people like.
But yeah… stuff ive been thinking about, idea kinda came from an accumulation of things, like enjoying seeing people doing their own breeding or selection projects, to how say a bunch of plants i personally grow out may not be my cup of tea in specifics and me going after my own goals, but to someone else those plants could be something they really enjoy, and how that diversity in choice/flavor could be fostered and shared.
Man even your basil looks dank
lol getting those terps going, but yeah started a bunch in that cup but selected it down to that one have some outside on my deck too but still cold for them and they don’t get much sun due to being north facing so they are still super small in comparison, will probably transplant this one outside in a week or two.
That’s a real interesting project but I’m afraid there are not many reg Autos around. Excuse my ignorance but if you pollinate a fem Auto you get fem seeds? I mean to create new crosses and breed them in a second generation both parents should be reg?
No, non feminized pollen aka regular pollen, crossed to a feminized plant = regular offspring, and yeah regular autos are less common but still around.
I would be interested in that for sure. Not sure my genetics would be that interesting but im willing haha.
Edit : I think all the autos i have (gifted to me) are regular except the bought ones but they are being planted so they will be no more.
Also saying that, 6 of the seedlings above which 3 of are growing alright are regular autos courtesy of @Swe-can "i see your likes "
So if one is a decent male, then guess we will see…
I’m definitely down. I have quite a few regular autos genetics that I could donate to the cause, most likely in the form of making seeds with them.
I do have a complete Lowryder2 “Breeder’s Pack” in my fridge. I sent them overseas and they actually came back, so hopefully they survived their world tour. I also have some Divyder F2s that were made by a few othe OG users.
I have several Afterthought Autos that I want to run. The Gas and Guns I grew really impressed me. I really want to try their version of Pinapple Express, Piña.
@Mr.Sparkle i always “like” your threads!!! so that’s nothing I’ve ever stop doing either !!
Hopefully this time something nice comes out of them ! I put around 50 in soil a week ago for a outdoor run… doing a forest stealth run!! Takes some pictures for you… maybe there is something there to!!
@ReikoX laters would be interesting or possibly the Divyder f2’s, but not to be already jumping into the growth characteristic discussions, that was one thing i did noticed or at least with the divyders and other lowryder crosses you sent me was as soon as those hit the bottom of the pot they stopped growing and went straight to flowering, but also can’t say 100% looking back that my grow conditions possibly didn’t contribute to that so no idea if true or not, but would be worth a second look, i passed my left over seeds to @TrevorLahey i believe.
id be interested forsure, tried doing a direct plant with the “big pheno” seeds you sent me but a lot didn’t crack just maturity wise and those that did didn’t last long, was a wipe unfortunately, but shit happens.
They sure did. They definitely were short plants.
Yeah for certain people “micro growers” that a good thing, but i know we all want “monsters” in our own capabilities and regards lol
HUGE PLANTS, but tiny hands lol
Sorry to hear that !.. they are a bit old in age but shouldn’t be a problem thou… ill check if I have something else thats more mature and send them to you!
This made me laugh. Last year I had a retired buddy from the military visit in the summer. He did not know I grew cannabis…and right before I surprised him and we walked into my grow room he sniffed the air and said…“you growing basil?”.
most were underdeveloped a little but i mainly contribute it to the direct planting so went back to soaking till the seeds crack and throw tails before planting, all were successful this last round
Day 49/47/16/4
Guess i shouldn’t be surprised that the back left plant looks to be finishing up and slowing down, and the rest following along that path.
Took out some of the weaklings, still some with leaf issues in there but in comparison to the ones that were removed a lot less minor and they may clear as they grow more.
I was thinking? How long can pollen survive in a vial if i send them to you from Scandinavia? Would it work ? I was thinking of the 50 I put out atleast 5 must be males if not more? And If I can locate atleast 1 good male i can keep it and save all the Pollen and send them? I have 2 big vials i can use as storage ? Just a thought
