GTA’s Myco Mayhem

What’s up guys? Long time no see. Besides cannabis, I like to delve into the world of psychedelics from time to time and recently I decided to try giving growing my own shrooms a shot. I ordered some spores from PNW Spore Co. and got started. From growing cannabis I already had coco coir, vermiculite and gypsum on hand along with a fine mister and tubs of varying sizes.

So I got to work.

I decided to use whole grain brown rice cooked for 10 minutes and steam sterilized in quart jars as my spawn grain.

I inoculated the jars with Golden Teacher spores and waited about a week.

After the first week, I decided it was time to shake the jars. 2 days after shaking, they looked like this.

And then 6 days after shaking the jars, they completely colonized the grains.

On the 7th day I decided to spawn to bulk (CVG) 1 650g brick of coco, 8 cups vermiculite, 1 cup of gypsum, 4.5 quarts boiling water. Add the boiling water to the bucket of ingredients and put on the lid. Wait until the substrate has cooled down and you’re ready to go.

Side note, I’d wait to add the gypsum until you’re ready to use your substrate because it can form gooey globs in your substrate if left to soak but that could be just my experience.

And that brings us to where we are now, 48 hours after spawning to bulk. I can’t open the lids but these are the best shots I can get.

12 quart tub (2 quarts of spawn to 2 quarts substrate, 1:1 ratio)

6 quart tub (1 quart spawn to 1.5 quarts substrate, 1:1.5 ratio)

Since starting this journey, I’ve since ordered more genetics from PNW Spore Co. Now I have half a syringe of Golden Teachers and unused syringes of Albino Golden Teachers, Jedi Mind Fuck, PF Classic, Ecuador Cubensis, and Natal Super Strength.

I swear it’s just as bad with spores as it is with seeds. The only thing addictive about shrooms and weed are spores and seeds.

If you have any advice or grow pics feel free to share, this is my first time ever growing shrooms so any and all advice would really be welcomed. Idk if they’re colonizing super fast or upsettingly slow comparatively so lmk dudes 🫡

I’d say you tubs look good, they seem to be colonizing fairly quickly.

These are golden teacher, usually had pins about 10-12 days from spawning

You can! It’s so easy to get into. All you need is like a $250 USD initial investment if you’re starting from zero and you can have unlimited mushies for the rest of your life. All you really need to buy after your initial investment is substrate ingredients and grain. You can take spore prints and spawn them to agar and transfer to grains if you’re worried about contamination in your spore prints. That’s what I’ll be doing. Also you can clone just like cannabis, breed your own somewhat like cannabis (although it takes experience with growing them in the first place) it’s a hobby that in a lot of ways mirror growing cannabis but also is a lot different than growing cannabis. Like, the average time from seed to joint for myself is 5 months. Veg for a month, flower for 2-2.5 months, dry for 2 weeks, and cure for a month. The average time from spore to shroom is like 1.5 to 2.5 months. 1-3 weeks grain spawn, 1-2 weeks bulk spawn, and then fruiting conditions for a week or so until your first flush. Dry in a dehydrator for 24-36 hours depending on the size of the fruits, and bam. There you go. It’s easier than you think it is and I promise you it’s just as rewarding as growing is.

I’ve been so busy with harvest that I’ve almost forgotten about this thread.

Rosecomb mutation on every one but the harvest was still good. I had to harvest in multiple stages, but all on all the first flush was 34g dry. I don’t have a picture of all of them together because I was giving them away to friends and family as soon as they came out of the dehydrator lol

This is the second flush in the big tub. I dunked the cakes for 8 hours 3 days ago and this is what we have now.

Much less mutations and much larger fruit as expected. I’m very happy with how these teachers have turned out. Will be harvesting tomorrow morning. I’ll dehydrate and weigh out the entire second flush at one time so I can see the difference in weight from flush to flush

Nice fruits @GrowTheAtlas and awesome job!

This is the half of the mushies that were ready, we’ll see what the dry weight is in a couple days

Final weigh in on the second flush

Here are some P. Natalensis

And then two hours later (currently)

I’m jealous lol. I got all the stuff I needed and dove in head first. The first try I had the first flush and failed every time I tried since lol

I’ve had some jars fail but other than that, so far so good. I’ve pretty much completely given up growing weed. Too many failures in a row.

Here’s some mutated Ole Dirty Penis Envy

How did they fail? Contamination?

Yeah they either never colonized the grain or when they got into the coco they got the green death

Usually when the mycelium doesn’t colonize the grain it means they’re too dry. What kind of grain did you use? I use whole grain brown rice

Something was growing but not mycelium. It was white spots everywhere. I have only used rye and brf. The brf almost colonized then got tric

Some shrooms
