✨ Happy High Seed Club

I am Arnold, I like my highs happy, bright & kind and I am looking for like-minded people.

Is it you?

.

.

Most people have fond memories of the first times they used cannabis. It brightened their day, it made them goofy, smile and giggle. I have a feeling that this is not so closely related to what we were actually smoking at that time. The set & setting was perfect: we were with friends, cheerful moments, doing things we liked. Next to that our mind & body was experiencing something it had never before.

I’ve once came across the thought that after the 50th time using any particular substance it’s starts to lose its magic. No way to prove that, but I tend to believe there is truth in that statement.

For me it’s 18 years since my initiation in the world of cannabis and I’ve since made a giant leap above that 50 mark.

It is not realistic to want to experience the same as I did 18 years ago. My life has changed, my mind has changed.

But, still, I find myself drawn to that happy place cannabis can bring you. If I want to go there now, it is of utmost importance to choose the right companion. To find that plant, that variety, that knows the paths in my brain to guide me to paradise.

.

Does that plant exist? Yes.

Is it easy to find? No.

Is it easy to grow? No.

Does it work all the time? Hell no!

Is it the same plant for everyone? Unfortunately not.

.

A plant can have a different effect on anyone. That means that what I write does not necessarily be true for you. Only one way to find out…

I’ve found that searching within pure equatorial lines gives the highest chance of finding what I am looking for. Call it sativa’s or NarrowLeafDrugcultivars.

When there is a trace of “indica” in a variety it most probably has lost its magic. That means that I have to be a scandalous purist when choosing what genetics to search in.

To understand why I’ve come to that conclusion for myself, I need to explain to you what I mean by a kind high.

With the word “kind” I focus on the aftermath of the high, the moment when the high fades away. Most of the time it starts 1 or 2 hours after smoking and the feeling goes on for up to 4 hours. The vast majority of the cannabis varieties give me an uncomfortable afterhigh. Even when the high itself was spectacular, I don’t want that. I want my high to fade a way like a soft breeze, no drag, no trace of uncomfortableness.

It’s a very important trait to me in this phase of my life. Why I want that is very simple: I like to smoke during the day when the sun is out, being in my garden or in nature. But rarely do I want to start smoking and not stop smoking till I go to bed. Just one lift off, maybe a second and that’s it. The rest of the day I want to spend clean.

In my experience, this trait is strongly linked to indica’s, maybe traces of CBD, probably something else, but it has proven VERY difficult for me to find a kind afterhigh in something that has been touched with indica. A 100% sativa is in no way a guarantee to find it either. All I can say is: that search has a Quest-like-status. It’s a labor of love for the dedicated.

.

Unfortunately, there are more hurdles on the way to paradise.

It is clear to most that cannabis is a mood amplifier rather than an enhancer. That means that even the most perfect herb can not turn your gray skies into rose tinted ones. That’s the “Set”.

Then there is the “Setting”. It is unrealistic to expect lovely things to come if you smoke right before an activity that has a dull nature to it or when around people that do make you feel uncomfortable.

Even if your herb is awesome, don’t expect it turn dirt into gold. Use it to amplify an already nice moment and feeling, not to create one.

And to top it off even your previous cannabis use is out there to tackle your frolic endeavor towards that happy and bright place.

The majority of the pure NLDs that deliver a fantastic experience, only seem able to do it once in a month if you’re lucky. Once in 3 months, maybe? You can’t smoke them regularly and expect them to deliver the magic every time.

Next to that, your prior use of indica(-hybrids) also affects your experience for the worse. And that up to a month prior. It’s a hard pill to swallow, I know, but it is undeniable. Try it for 10 days and you’ll see for yourself.

That means that a whole lot of things determine your experience:

  • Genetics
  • Product: grown well, harvested at the right moment, cured, …
  • Set & Setting
  • Consumption of cannabis in the weeks prior

This is a seed club.

In this thread I’d like to meet like-minded souls, share our experiences, thoughts and seeds.

We will focus on the genetic part of the equation while fully honing into the goal of happy and of kind. Other traits are noise.

We will share experiences and seeds.

Fun highs for the future!

.

.

.

Let me start of by saying that I am a long-time outdoor grower who has fairly recently changed his approach to growing the long flowering ones indoors.

That means that my firsthand experience is not yet as big as you might have expected. However, there is another weight that keeps the balance in check and that is my 10 year connection to a dedicated group of landrace sativa enthusiasts on the forums. checking in daily I get a feel for peoples preferences. That gives me an advantage when choosing which genetics to eventually grow out.

Special shout out to my mentor Apollo for starting the fire and for the golden information over the years. I was very lucky to meet him.

Some people are poets and can find words to describe highs that captivate what they are feeling. I am not. I tried my best to describe what I am searching for, so most of the times it then goes like this: Checks all the boxes / does not check all the boxes.

At the moment I have four plants that seem to hit home:

Ethiopian
Derived from ACE/SeedsOfAfrica repro stock
I like 1 female out of 13, which is approx. 8%, not done smoketesting so numbers may change.

Punto Rojo Gold
Heavily & lovingly worked line by Satva from Cannabiogen stock.
Selection of this clone was done by Apollo, going by his thoughts my guess would be 10%

Vietnamese
Derived from TLT repro stock
14%

Showing promise, but not smoketested enough:

Original Haze
Hazebrothers > Sam > JohnnyChicago & Golli > MadMac > Elanius
One female was REALLY nice the first (and only) time I smoked her. Hopefully this is not only a honeymoon phase.
.

.

This is roughly how I see this project:
.

Phase 1: Select keeper females

Searching through South American, African and SouthEastAsian seedstock.

.
Phase 2: Make female seeds with them

Not using males reduces the chance of working with the wrong kind of high. When the high we are searching for is locked in enough we can backcross the male ‘trait’ back in.

Selfed seeds and hybrids between them.

.

Phase 3: Testing, share them widely.

Get feedback, am I alone in this or can I find passionate people whose preferences align with mine? Can we shape this together?

At this moment I don’t have anything to share yet, but that won’t take too long. I sprayed my Vietnamese with STS and she is making balls as we speak. Visible balls do not garantuee viable pollen though, so fingers crossed.

To be continued…

.

Phase 4: Work the favorites & Early Sativa Hybrids

I started as an outdoor grower and I plan to finish as an outdoor grower. My lifelong quest is getting this kind of high onto an early finishing plant. And my growing situation here at 52N demands something really light sensitive. How I want to try my luck with that is a whole other conversation.

I am feeling determined and hopeful that, how bold it may look, we will one day look back with satisfaction and love for the road we’ve travelled.

.

Thanks to all the people inspiring others by sharing experiences, stories and genetics.

.

Much love
:lotus:

Arnold.

Very happy to follow along. I love nld varieties too. Not sure all wld additions ruin things. Case in point, I have never found a dj short crossed with a nld that upset me too much. But I so agree that the after effects coming down from some indicas are too muddy for me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your project.

Cheers!

I love this!!

I’m also trying to find a particular plant from 1997 ish… I was getting it in the Bay Area and they called it Northern Lights but it must have been NL9 or something cause it was Sativa like effects…

Dang that bud made me sooo happy and giggly as a freshman in college… my favorite herb ever. Been trying to find it ever since. It was a light green/golden color buds…

I hope to find something similar some day.

But you are right… That was 27 years ago… I’m so different now… Everything is different now… But if I can recreate just a bit of that feeling…

I’ll be following along here friends

Hey @Arnold I’m going to follow along also.:popcorn::popcorn:
It’s going to be great to see which characteristics you select for. Autos to shoot the flowering down, while retaining that pure Satty high… and stabilizing traits with reversal. I can’t grow any of those… But: Count me interested. Eyeballs out.

just some of my going to be outdoor vegis, also.

I got two words for ya mate:
Neville’s Haze.

It fits the bill perfectly imho

I posted it elsewhere and I gotta admit I am not beyond that 50 mark of yours with the strain, I also haven’t grown it myself yet (although I have about 30 seeds) BUT I have consumed it in the Netherlands several times whenever I made it to Amsterdam as de Dampkring has a good cut of Neville’s Haze by all accounts.

The effect was indeed always “kind”.
To me it was like a fresh winter snow when everything feels/sounds like it is wrapped in cotton if you know what I mean.
Slightly giggly/good mood and indeed with the fading of the effect, it is very mellow I would say.

I’m a big fan and plan to grow it soon before my beans become too old.

Was just always hesitant to pop those seeds because it isn’t easy to grow, very sativa leaning, takes 3-4 months to flower and gets accordingly large and unwieldy indoors.
But I will make an attempt soon-ish ™

Stay frosty y’all and good luck on your quest OP

Me too , but i also like a super narcotic sativa as well everything has its purpose :wink: . I have found a couple “bright” NLD and i love them and am running a shit ton due to how heavy handed i am with selection also im extremely brutal on them as well so i figure nature will probably eat 25%

@Arnold , peshewar, Afghanistan and i know i know but its not an indica its an old old true Afghan sativa :wink::face_with_peeking_eye::face_with_monocle::exploding_head: see

And i topped them twice  and its the “brightest” sativa I have ever smoked

A very interesting quest imo :+1:t3:
Go Arnold!

The New Caledonia (Ace) was the cleanest high and no “come down” I’ve experienced so far. Lighting up my mind like sun shine, almost an antidepressant.

Congo (Ace) the happiest without muddiness.

Have just started a few Ethiopian x Congo
And a Highland Guerrero
Will report back when harvested in June.

Sounds like what I search for also. Not looking to get super messed up, just looking for a positive, interesting, energetic high. I have some Ace Ethiopian and Honduras/Panama in flower right now. Soon I will be starting my outdoor seeds for the season - RSC Sinai and Mandala’s Krystalica. I’m hoping they work well for my climate (Minnesota at 45 degrees) and provide these good qualities.

You can’t believe the shit tons of chromatography done on both continents since decades now, and that can make you gain years of empirical blur + lefty interpretations in selections. Just for the profile of the high.

I think that it’s a first angular stone that you should consider in this project.

Any thoughts on those Ethiopian x Congo and Highland Guerrero plants? I finished my Ethiopian grow and am letting it cure now.

Sure thing!
I harvested the 3 Ethiopian x Congo around end of June / beginning of July. Had 3 different phenos.

Pics:

All three have an almost electric high. Clear and energetic. Some clearer than others.

I liked “surfing” the sativa waves of realities that were rolling through me.
And with some mental effort I could still relate to not high people while that was happening :+1:t3:

Like it to keep energized when dance to electro, techno, trance.

After smoking it takes a least 4 - 5 hours before I can sleep. Will see how that changes with more curing…

Will definitely grow it again!

The Highland Guerrero is different. I grew a breeders cut.

Around harvest time

After smoking her, I feel like I’m more attuned to nature and my bodily sensations (sun on skin, wind, the vibe of a place).
For me a nice and easy day weed.

After trying the Zamaldelica x Nepal Jam and Eth x Co the HG hasn’t gotten that much attention lately.

But hey today is a nice sunny Saturday, might just sample her again this afternoon. In a Hammock next to a little stream in the park…

:point_up:t3: For science and posterity!

@sayrum meinen Glückwunsch zum tollen Grow! the effects of Eth x Co and HG sound fantastic!
i am actually looking for strains that help me with boosting more feeling/ positivity and energy in my life…
do you by chance still hold the HG cut or the Eth x Co?

Thanks @beanboy

I hold no moms and do prefer F1 seeds, all that vigor and always a little unique.

Just had a bit of HG, for better evaluation not vaping but just Elements + glas tip.
Warm happiness coming on slowly. Colors are more vibrant and increased contrast. Feeling slightly befuddled. Contentment. Subtle waves of warmth travelling up + down my body

Hey, just checking others experiences on Ace’s Congo. Here’s mine:
Grew out a pack of regs. Found a few different phenos, Some Beautiful Big plants, Baseball bat flowers in Branches longer than my arms. I got everything… from a 9 ft beast to the dwarf, even got the purple pheno.
All had the same flavour smell & effect.
For lack of better description… kind of sweet with a complicated piney thing going.
I have read some people love the energetic daytime high of Congo, but for me it is far too racey.
Felt almost nothing for about 10 minutes, then she creeps up on you like a motherfucker, & all I could do was strap in & ride out that anxiety.
Def not just me as I gave some to a friend and they had a similar experience. Real shame cause I have buckets of the stuff!

Haha I know that situation
I give away or compost most of my harvests. These days only a few plants are worthy enough to stay in my freezer for personal consumption when not smoketesting.

I’m honing in on some of the goals. Got one really nice Original Haze which I succeeded in selfing. I might have finally selfed the Punto Rojo clone on the third try, but not 100% sure it’s not OHaze pollen.

And now I have to start smoketesting the latest Ethiopia selection run. Had around 30 females of which I am revegging half. Looking forward to have a nice selection of that line to play with!
