Harvesting techniques?

So I’ve seen different ways of harvest. In sense of turn of lights for 48 hours. To not water couple days before snip. I’m just looking for some people’s ways.

I just do pure water for the last month or so because it hard to judge the “last 2 weeks”

Ive had buds go from “ill cut you in 2 weeks” to “ill cut you tomorrow” over night.

Ive got a current plant on 75 days of flower and its just not ambering…(only one out of that batch so i think its genetics)

I always cut the whole plant and hang it upside down to dry it that way…buds absorb more terps (flavor)

I grow DWC. I’ve been caught off by this a few times. I just continue with my normal nutrient schedule, same thing with the lights.

I don’t like to stress over all of the fine minutiae of growing. Not that I’m gonna neglect the plant cause that doesn’t work either.

Look up the Rev’s Happy endings finishing tea. That one is a good one for a soil base mix.I use this in conjunction with a normal feed schedual been using Dr earth dry amendments Veg with TPS ONE and i absolutely love that product no issues and they pair well that starts of light in the early veg and slowly gets ramped up as plant gets ready to flip and apexes about 3/4 the way through flower then gradually goes to a light feed to no feed the last two weeks then i hit them with the tea then its just plain water with a small touch of Epsom salt and a tiny bit of molasses to give them just enough sugar to finish strong

I completely agree. While I no longer add nutrients at all (I grow with a living soil containing nutrients for the plant’s full life), it doesn’t make sense to “flush” nutrients from a plant. Not only have their been various research studies over the last couple years suggesting that there is no advantage, it just makes sense. You can’t remove what has already been consumed by a plant. In fact, some studies suggested increased levels of nutrition by ‘flushing’. Here’s a few closing thoughts from one experiment:

Overall, the length of the flushing period did not impact yield, potency, terpenes, or taste characteristics of cannabis flower.

Taste test results indicated a trend toward improved flavor and smoke quality with the zero-day flush.

While there were no significant differences in cannabis nutrient content or cannabis supplements used, there was a trend toward increased iron and zinc in flower flushed for 14 days.

So do I but I live trim the fan leafs. I hate dry trim. Just seemed way more difficult

I have a more aggressive approach.

Thank you.

I do this too. Plants get fed until I cut them down.

Harvest early in the day and wet or dry trimming totally up to you… I just remove large fan leaves and hang dry in a cool dark space pretty simple. My environment is pretty high relative humidity so usually separate individual branches but kind of depends on the size of the plant.

I think that really depends on your grow medium. I grow in coco, if I didn’t feed them for a month there would be nothing left of them.

I got a bud that follows build a soil. I may just be too lazy currently to learn the system. There is really a lot onto growing stuff. But I’ve been loving it. I’m a vet and this stuff helps me immensely.

U got a bathroom in your basement u converted into a dry room as well huh? Lol

I don’t follow you but don’t grow in a basement and hang dry in my house

I think the 48 hours of darkness is a total waste. I’ve tried it numerous times with numerous different strains and saw no noticeable improvement. If anything I felt it was a negative.

I also tried that “harvest near the end of the 12 hour dark period” trick I used to see a lot of people post about (not here). But I didn’t notice any difference doing that either.

I know a lot of people choose not to water for a day or two before harvest, so their buds dry a bit faster. But I like to do the opposite. I give them plain water a few hours before I harvest. I want my buds to dry slower, not faster.

Absolute bare minimum, I find you want at least 5 days to dry. But 10-14 is better. I always shoot for at least 7-10 days dry. A slow dry works best IME.
60% humidity and 60-65°f are decent parameters to shoot for.

Also, I feed right until the last few days. Then I like to get in a couple plain waterings before harvest.

One thing I do that may be “bro science”, but i still do it because I feel I’ve noticed a difference from it -

After a couple days of plain watering, as I’m getting ready to harvest, I snap off a fan leaf at the base of the stem then I touch the base of the fan leaf stem to my tongue. There’s always a bit of water there. If the water tastes clean, I harvest. If the water tastes bitter (like nutrients) I give it another good plain watering and check again a few hours or a day later.

I’ve never read any science behind this or anything. It’s just something I do. :man_shrugging::joy:

I am on my first run on using living soil that I put together following directions from a forum and my plants have been looking pretty happy. PHing is not necessary, just dechlorination and there isn’t too many things I add to my water, mainly just molasses.

Does molasses really make a difference that late in the plants life, I thought it was a soil conditioning thing, feeding mycrobes etc ?
