I was curious if anyone has found any good Autoflowers that were good hash strains?
Or if anyone has made an Autoflowers that were exceedingly resinous or terpy.
I haven’t had any experience with any and was also curious if peoples breeding experience with autos. Any advice on selection for autos is much appreciated
Everything I’ve grown with genetics from Night Owl, Mephisto, and HomeGrownCannabisCo has been great. Sticky and stinky in many and varied ways. Carty’s Gabagoo and Miss Piggy also, which have some of the same genes. Can’t remember what went into @Going2fast 's Scarlet Grapes, but they were excellent too.
Other seed sources have been less reliable, with some great and some not.
I haven’t made hash though, so I’m less clear on what would be good for that.
The Mephisto and Night Owl autos I’ve grown seemed to have more oily resin than most others.
Thanks for the feedback. It’s much appreciated. I’ve heard good things about night owl and mephisto’s work. I will most likely be picking up some of their gear when the times comes to do some work with autos.
Il have to check out atlas, not sure if I know about them off the top of my head.
As far as autos go, my main goal is to just ran some fresh frozen at a different spot of mine so I don’t have to be back and forth pulling a tarp to light dep.l for sure will be doing my best to do pollinations to take things forward/cross with some my own gear. Also will be nice to have a big ol bag of autos for Cents on the Dollar.
Im definitely not into autos but for a bit i fantasized about early or late season autos for hash runs so i tried a few hah. I was not impressed. That said one i was pleased with was bomb seeds - cosmic bomb.
Grew vigorously and they packed resin like champs.
I haven’t tried washing them yet as I’m just about to jump into trying to make bubble for the first time soon, but I’ve been running some testers for KC Genetics and they’ve all been insanely frosty and had some really nice terps. He does have some stuff on multiversebeans.com and he’s working on revamping his website I think. I loved the sour pango and the plaza lights, both more tropical terps and bud structure that looked nice for washing, really potent, and lots of resin too. That sour pango makes my fingers so sticky just breaking some down for a grinder even lol. I’ll get some pictures when I’m off work!
Yeah, and I agree with others - only grew one Atlas, but it was a good plant.
As far as the others, there’s quite a few people on here who have done S1,
or crosses or repros, you should be able to try some genetics without laying out cash. Also, if you’re new to growing autos it may be worth trying some cheap or free “practice” seeds to get a feel for them. As much as I love them, a lot of folks find them tricky and unforgiving.
I would agree about getting some cheap seeds to practice with first. The first few weeks is where they get messed up most of the time, but if you baby them through the first few weeks you have a lot better shot
Thanks to everyone for the feedback and advice! Sounds like I’m going to need to get my feet wet with the autos before I think about doing anything else. Il for sure dust some stuff for fun but won’t be counting on being able to make any real strides forward for a while
Bro these look really good. Autos have come along way for sure. Last autos I seen in person was some garbage. In like 2020ish. Dude who was growing em said they would move em to the Dominicans who called it “planta”. It wasn’t anything I’d ever smoke lol
I was really dissappointed when I ran autos for hash. I’m never going to grow autos again.
They yielded low, had less resin than normal photoperiod genetics, and the dry sift hash and honey oil came out dark brown with a grassy flavor. but that was a while ago now, your experience may be different.
Here in oregon some of the olcc licensed legal commercial farms do a spring crop of outdoor autoflowers. One farm I visited runs a spring crop of autos that they sell to processors to make cannabinoid isolates that end up blended into flavored vape cartridges. They said flower and normal concentrates from the autos aren’t good enough to sell, they are low potency and have bad flavor. even for products like edibles and topicals, autos can only be used in the form of cannabinoid isolate. they have to be processed into isolates and used in other products in order to be saleable.
Thanks man! I’ve been pretty impressed with him as well, I just started messaging him on instagram when I started growing some of his gear and he started sending me some seeds to test for him since we’re around the same area. I’m excited to hear what he’s got coming next. I just ran a Lemon Cherry Gelato x KC Dream, Peanut Butter Berry x Milk and Qookies, and one called Macalicious that was some kinda MAC cross and they’re all super nice! Lots of hash potential in my eyes!
From my limited experience, it seems like there are WAY more shitty auto seeds circulating, and the really special ones are made in small batches from small time breeders with limited stock. I also feel like just the nature of the ruderalis plant makes breeding a lot more work so it’s a lot harder to get right. I don’t think autos have much space in the commercial market outside of what you mentioned as a bumper crop for isolates.
