Have you tried Indian cuisine?

I’m embarrassed to say I had never tried it until a month ago. I finally did a month ago & now it’s all I’m eating

What’s your favorite dish? So far I’ve just tried Chicken Vindulu, some coconut curries with chicken/shrimp, Tiki Masala & naan bread. What should I try next?

The real purpose of this thread though is for those who’ve never tried it. It’s amazing. Just try it! I feel like I just wasted 40 years eating bland western food. I wish someone had pulled me aside & told me sooner  :100:

I could see that. There’s a whole world of unusual interesting and delicious flavours out there.

I like saag paneer a lot. And anything with cardamom pods. Powerful.

Also if you’re feeling adventurous try Malay food too. My best (but still weak) description is the creamy and spicy of Indian with the salty and crunchy of Chinese.

Great stuff and good on you for trying new things!

I had an Indian place I went to specifically for naan bread. They had one they stuffed with lamb and onion it was so good, and another with cranberries and pistachios. I’d get one of both and call it dinner

First - take a trip to your local indian spice grocery store.

Tandoori Chicken / Shrimp is super easy to make and amazingly yummy

Pappadum - thin bread made from lentils. I use a toaster until they bubble.

For a more complicated dish - Lamb Dansak - you have to make the lentil sauce first, then add to the curry - probably my favourite.

Palak Pannir or Saag Pannir (peas or spinach with cheese)…

Tarka Dahl - lentils in soup or creamy dip…

Can provide recipes, if you need them.

Thank you @Gonzo for getting this thread started…:v:t3:
Every region/state here has a different cuisine and the complexity and sometimes the simplicity of their preparations are amazing.
Over here, you’d be blown by the amount of vegetarian options available. Non-vegetarian is no less either…
Glad your enjoying Indian food.

I’m not a vegetarian but I like to eat that way about once a week. I find good vegetarian food really difficult to cook and come up with interesting ideas. One of the best things about south asian food is lots of the really good stuff is already vegetarian! Dal is cheap, easy to make, good for you and delicious :+1::fire:

It’s true, Logger. I’ve been vegetarian for about 15 years now. Mostly, It can really suck, unless done well. And in India, they have been doing amazing vegetarian for centuries. They have it nailed. I love it he spices and flavors

I went to a vegan Rastafarian place and it was awesome. Lots of sesame oil and a Jamaican spiced bbq sauce.

I’m not vegan or Rastafarian but I quite enjoyed it.

Daal is something I could take or leave but find it’s improved with a little salt pork.

Lamb dansak, garlic pilau rice, onion bhaji, keema nan bread, 2 poppadoms with mango chutney as a dip and raita sauce if its a school night.
If I’ve got nothing planned the next day I’ll replace the dansak with a vindaloo or phall curry.
I absolutely love Indian food.
I’m feeling hungry now after typing that out

Oh man I love some good Indian food but haven’t delved into the nuanced as much as I’d like. My favorite is the combo, it’s usually not called a combo but something else, it’s got a little bit of everything!

It’s always so good, everything. The colors are so vivid, everything looks so beautiful. Chutneys. Green stuff, yellow stuff, what this is potato it’s delicious! Constantly surprised and delighted by the Indian cuisine I’ve tried and as someone who thinks they can hold their own in the kitchen Indian food is a cuisine I have yet to add to my repertoire, and I’d like very much to do so. Some Indian restaurants I’ve visited have a portion of the menu with Chinese type dishes so I’m guessing they’re Indian cuisine with a Chinese fusion of sorts but I’ve yet to venture and try out things from that side of the menu and usually go for the “combo platter” or the paneer in the red sauce. Mango lassi is delicious. Reading everyone’s replies and taking notes I want to try new things and expand my experience with Indian cuisine. This thread is awesome @Gonzo thanks for starting it and thanks everyone sharing their contributions and suggestions! I’m totally craving some Indian food now. Much love

Sometimes when I’m eating somewhere unfamiliar I’ll say look I don’t really know what to order can you just make me up a combo of your best stuff? It’s never failed.
