Heady Bear's First Auto Adventure

Glad I found a seat early ! This will be great !

Did you mention your basic plans for the grow ? Like are you going to LST or top or anything?
I can’t wait to see these two strain grown out by you.
I just finished up reading the Blackstrap grow by Holly and amd hoping you get the same results !

Sending good vibes to your little beans

Much love for stopping by, and for the supportive vibes! @HappyTrees23s

I’ll be posting an update tomorrow with pics of my current (2x2x4) setup, which is admittedly kinda janky, as well as my brand new (2x4x8) setup, which is clean af.
I’ll also talk about the details of my approach, then!

Alrighty family, time to recap the ups and downs of this week.
FOG Dog is alive, and okay-ish… Not really growing this week after putting on a couple nodes the week prior. She’s in a 3 gallon smart pot, with recycled FFOF soil that was reamended with 30% homemade compost, and treated with IMO-2.
Bottom watered only, mackerel FAA, ginger/garlic OHN, calcium phosphate, phosphoric acid at a solution of 1:500. All KNF inputs.

Back in the corner we have GR x MI5 on the back wall; lost the one that came out of the shell during the soak. And then the Blackstraps are haaaapppy babies.
They’re all under a HLG 300 Rspec dimmed to about 40%, in a 2x2x4 tent, running about 40% humidity using an inkbird hygrometer, AC Infinity 4 inch exhaust outside the tent, and small humidifier inside the tent. Averages temps about 85 degrees F, but we flirt with 90 during the day… Not a huge deal, just a little warm.

4/4 Journal note:
All seedlings were bottom watered in a solution of garlic/ginger OHN, FAA, mixed garden FPJ, and LABS.
I added soil to the nursery pots to provide support (especially for the stretchy Blackstrap cross).
BS1 will be the tall one, and she’s also showing a red stem compared to the other seedlings which are standard green.
Fog Dog may have stalled, so we’re waiting to see if she recovers. Plenty of moisture in the bottom half of the pot, but dry in the upper half.
Finally, I fucked up and lost track of the seedlings during watering, so I’m only positive about BS1; I tried to logic out which the others were, but it’s just a guess now. Maybe it’ll become clear as they grow up. :man_shrugging::bear::sweat_smile:
Edit: @hollyho , any idea where the red stem might be coming from? Did you see it in any of the parents?

Does it look like this? This is off the blackstrap mom. You got the mix pack right?

Hard to say at this stage of growth, but the coloration looks right.
In mine the entire stem is that color though. It’s be cool if she didn’t grow out of it!
And yes, the mix pack

Just went back through all those pics and the ones that had the red stem didn’t show up til later. None showed that early. So idk.

How old are your babies?

This is a bubba kush reg seed I got from mark on strainly. This is the earliest I’ve ever seen one turn red lol it was weird looking. Almost fluorescent. I pulled the coco back a little bit to get a picture

That’s what it looks like, and it’s literally twice as tall as the others; no leaning… Straight as an arrow.
They’re 8 days above the ground

I really had to work hard to resist picking up some Mango Smile and Creme de la Chem that’s available right now.
And then I had to resist buying Shantibaba Mango Haze, Super Silver Haze, and Neville’s Haze because the Mango Smile reminded me that I’ve been wanting to try some of those classics from their origin point!

The blackstrap was an athlete lol next time I pop one, I’m topping her and definitely keeping up w my defoliation! She got so bushy when she started flowering! Good luck

Not a lot going on, but here’s a brief update:
FOG Dog is healthy, but I feel like I stunted her with the low nutes early on. I’ll take her to finish, but yield is gonna be low.
Blackstraps and GR x MI5 keep on chugging along, working on their second set of true leaves, basically all neck and neck.
You can see the one red stem Blackstrap cross is about double the height of her siblings, and still standing up on her own, despite being leggy.
Seedlings got a dose of FAA, OHN, and FPJ.
Foggy got FAA, Phosphoric acid, OHN, FFJ, FPJ, and foliar K.
Next feeding will include Calcium Phosphate from bone char dissolved in apple cider vinegar.

Journal post for my own reference:
Watered all plants today. Foggy got garlic and ginger OHN, FPJ, FFJ, LABS, and foliar Ca (eggshell/vinegar)
Babies got a more dilute solution of the same.
Foggy is gorgeous, but small; color is excellent, and she’s got some stink to her.
Another of the babies is showing the red stem trait, so I’m betting that’s the other Blackstrap cross that I lost track of during one of the early waterings…I definitely didn’t guess right when I tried to label them.
Light (HLG 300) is still at 40 percent, about 15-16 inches above the tops of foggy.
Started LST on her, but since she’s not really growing vertically, it doesn’t seem like it will be necessary. Now I’ve got a weird cannasai shaped plant leaning to the edge of the pot (I was going to circle her as she grew).
Starting a couple Black and Blue Jack tonight to add to the autoflower ranks. Thanks to @Nagel420 for hooking it up!
Everybody is on 18/6 lighting in the 2x2, but I’m shifting to the 2x4 when it’s time to up pot the Blackstrap and Ghost Rose x MI5

Let’s keep this train rollin’!
Into the shot glasses we go, with a splash of h2o2
I already mentioned the black and blue Jack, and I just got a wild hare up my butt to take a swing at these Strawberry Nuggets x Creme de la Chem, courtesy of @BasementBeans !
Thank you, and @Nagel420 for providing the fuel to keep the auto adventure hot!

100% of the new girls have nice long tails at about 60 hours in paper towels!
Planted them in a coco/light FFOF soil mixture to ensure some early nutes… Even at the second set of true leaves, the current babies started showing signs of N deficiency (so they were top dressed with spent coffee grounds).
Forgot to take pics, but we’ve all seen a root.
Edit: black and blue Jack are in round starter pots, SN x CDLC are in squares

Glad you’re happy @Hemp , and happy 4/20 to you as well!
All 4 of the new babies are above ground (2x Black and Blue Jack, and 2x Sour Nuggets x Creme de la Chem). That takes us to 9 plants… Which is probably too many, but fuck it!
Foggy is putting out some trikes, and had a nice funk to her. Not distinguishable yet in terms of specific aromas, but I dig it.
Ghost rose x MI5 and the Blackstrap girls are growing up nicely, and just doing their thing. Probably getting toward ready for an up pot, so that’ll be in the list for my next day off.
Blurry pictures inbound:

Personal journal entry.
Ghost Rose x MI5, Blackstrap crosses, SN x CDLC, and Black and Blue Jack were watered and fed FAA, garlic OHN, LABS, and FPJ
Foggy still has some deep moisture, so watering is delayed until Sunday evening.
Next watering will be transplant time for the bigger babies.
I’ll be surprised if I ended up with even a half ounce from Foggy, she never grew much after I stunted her… Live and learn!

Also, the ladies are loving this light mix I created! No sign of burn, and a set of true leaves in 9 days.

Got a male up in here! One of the Ghost Rose x MI5 is out of the tent due to balls.
I’ve never grown for seeds previously, so I think that I’ll gather some pollen, and make some F2’S just for kicks!
About how long from sex determination to pollen release?
