Help identifying problem

Hello friends,

On my past few grows, the seedlings get these brown spots on the first sets of leaves. I didn’t know what causes it. I suspect it is fungal, but maybe nutrient issue. The spots start on the tips and edges, then work their way into the center.

The first time, I thought it could have been a one off thing, but this is the 4th or 5th run with the exact same issue.

By the time they get a bit bigger, I start applying sprays as always. When they are planted in the ground, they seem to grow out of the problem.

This round, the seedlings are in Happy Frog soil. Feed is supplemented with GH Flora Gro, CalMag+, and EasyWeed at about 50% strength. Ascorbic acid for pH down.

They are mostly indoor under LED 16/8 schedule approx 480 ppfd. Indoor temps in the 72f to 75f range. I put them outside in direct sun for a few hours per day to harden off. Outside temps in the 90f to 95f range.

Water/feed when the cups get light every few days.

Any ideas?

Im guessing overfed. I start in Happy Frog alone, but when they move into my garden bed i get the same type symptoms. Some dry browning of the big tips. The growing center is not affected. Its seems worse if i feed more than just HF before setting them out.

My feeding routine in early veg has been about the same for at least the past ten grows. This problem started popping up about 4 or 5 grows in the past. Before then, I would have the happiest and healthiest little babies.

Some of the plants definitely get the symptoms worse than others. Some do not appear to have any problem at all.

I’ll back off on feed strength and see how new growth looks.

I get the impression on mine that there is some soft tissue created when i add slight feed to HF. Then when hit by sun it browns within one day . Could be the soil changed a bit. My beds are well fed.

This is an interesting theory. Quick new growth of soft tissue damaged by intensity of direct sunlight.

I have been trying to garden them off quickly with direct exposure to midday July sun.

And i throw mine strait out there. They grow out of it quicker than i can spend time hardening them.

^^^^ this. In early stages, not much is needed for nutrients.
