Not sure what you mean by “spread it” but you are going to need a liquid pesticide and a spray bottle and you’ll have to spay/soak every leaf on the plant, especially the undersides of the leaves. Most likely will need to do it multiple times over the course of several days. The pesticide literally needs to be dripping off the leaves.
Not sure how stealthy you need to be, but if you can’t take it out and spray it, it’s gonna be a problem. Just know removing the webs is doing -0- to fix the issue.
Search bar and “spider mites” is your friend. Don’t freak out, research and learn and apply your new knowledge. If circumstances don’t allow that (and the mite webs reappear, which they will, lacking a miracle), I’d start over too. It’ll just get super frustrating for you otherwise …
You should be able to see tiny bugs on the webs if it is mites, also under the leaves. Using a loupe or magnifying glass makes them easier to spot. An infestation of them is a PITA to get rid of, they are resilient little bastards.
This is a HotShot strip. Just open it and hang. When I had spider mites, I bought 2, sealed up my grown space, and kept it breezy inside which the mites don’t like, and left it for a few days.
These CAN be used as part of a treatment plan, like Neem AND this stuff.
When I used it to try my problem, I ONLY used this stuff.
I’ve never used Neem oil, so if you use it, listen to the advice you get here.
This is absolutely spider mites. I’m new, I’ve had them, and they do a lot of damage – including just stopping your plant’s growth, period.
I’m with you. I suggested a Hot Shot pest strip. But if you can’t stop them quickly (which is hard), it is right to end it, destroy the plants, clean the space, start over.
Nowadays, I keep a Hot Shot strip in every tent, all the time.
Bad idea. The active ingredient in those is dichlorvos, which is an organophosphate. It’ll kill the pests, yeah… it’s probably also getting into your buds and therefore your lungs, though. Even if it won’t kill you, I’ve heard nothing good about organophosphate poisoning.
yeah i ll do this 1st thing in the morning…
by spreading i meant spraying only…
so yes i ll spray it almost every day. and will share pics from tomorrow onwards
You’re right, it isn’t great. It is airborne, for sure, but doesn’t stay in plants or mammals. I’m not worried about the plants themselves getting toxic, and I don’t believe my exposure level and the way things are ventilated amounts to a huge risk for me. Thank you for the tip though.
It does though. They’ve looked at its use in greenhouses. It’s why upper limits have been established and it has been banned in lots of places. Also why it’s been shown to be a probable carcinogen. It will definitely kill your bugs though.
I used hot shot foggers, but that’s the nuclear option. I haven’t had to do that for awhile, thankfully. I’d be devastated if I had to shut everything down now.
Spider mites are a game changer for most growers, due to their resiliency and their ability to go unnoticed up to the point of infestation. Luckily for you, you only have the one plant.
Neem oil takes about two weeks to start working, so if you’re growing an autoflower, this isn’t your best approach. The spider mites will overwhelm your plant by the time the Neem starts to work.
Sadly, your best bet is to terminate the plant and sanitize the whole area and start new. I know that may be hard to hear as a new grower, but it’s probably in your best interest.
As a person who’s been growing cannabis for more than 40 years, spider mites are no joke and they’re not easily beat… in fact, they win more than they lose.
Rinse plants off daily for two weeks or use a forced air blower, vacuum and clean grow area every 2-3 days while infested , spray Neem oil and soap every 3 days on plants, use lost coast plant therapy, pure crop 1 or potassium fatty acid soaps on opposite days of neem spray, or use them all, the more the merrier when it comes to getting rid of mites.Use multiple sprays as mites build tolerance to same sprays use so def need multiple insecticides to get under control Do this for 2 weeks straight with daily washes and sprays. Soil drench with neem and soap every 7-10 days for 3 weeks.Use Lock down pads attached to stem so any mites climbing up from the ground and to the pot will get stuck on pads before making way to stem to climb. Keep heat lower snd RH higher to help prevent in the first place. Stay on top of weekly IPM to prevent from happening as well. This will cost you hundreds of dollars btw…. Or you can just cut your losses and start over and be more diligent with preventative IPM. Hope this helps a little
