Hey guys I have a 2x2x4 tent for some small seed runs. I planned on keeping it completely closed up with just a small fan running inside, but the condensation build up quickly set me straight there’s no way that’s gonna work. So I need to get some air flowing out of the tent starting immediately. I can’t have pollen flowing out of the tent though for what should be obvious reasons.
So my question is:
Is the standard filter that comes with the fans that are meant for tents good enough to filter out the pollen and keep most if not all of it from escaping the tent or do I need a better filter?
Part 2:
Is a filtered fan blowing out through a port in the tent, good enough circulation or do I need an additional open port in the tent with a filter in it so the fan can draw air in?
So 1 hole blowing out or do I need two holes 1 blowing out and one drawing in?
Here’s a link to my fan I’m looking at though I’m sure it’s pretty standard.
You need an inlet from your lung room so the negative pressure of the exhaust fan can draw in fresh air. As for filtering pollen, it’s fairly easy but it tends to stick to everything, and tossed up when the tent opens and such, particularly your clothes. If you are growing any female flowers nearby, it’s dfficult not to get some seeds, but some people do it just fine. I’m not lucky to have multiple rooms to grow in either.
With small plants, you don’t have to worry about it too much. You just gotta make sure they got air in and out. A 2 x 4 is kind of small so you’re kind of limited with space. Sometimes people just hang a Filter with the fan outside of the tent. And then have air coming in. I have used old filters and stick them outside of the tent and let the fan do the pulling of all of it. When I got a small tent like that going, I usually in the beginning, put the fan on a timer. I know some people have the Temperature adjusting fans. Or fans that come on when the humidity gets too high. Sometimes that fan might not even come home in my opinion I don’t know. I had one one time I didn’t care for it…
Some people use 1 gallon cloth grow containers to put over the tent holes to block light leaks. Might stop pollen too. An HVAC filter from Lowes would definitely stop pollen if get MERV11 or higher, like the 20x20 ones for around 20 bucks.
Im thinking about the same sort of setup for a small seed run.
Can anyone tell me how long does pollen stay viable in the tent and in the room the tent is in after the seed run is done. Obviously the tent would be cleaned well but impossible to get all the pollen that would settle in the room.
