Hermaland, project no flavor PT/EN

This is Project No Flavor, a grow log that began with little hope.

I got caught up in BSF’s marketing around their Gorilla Family line (Banana, Ghost, White Rainbow) — genetics that deeply disappointed me. No smell, no flavor.

The plant looked nice and had decent yield, but it hermed. I ran the first cycle in hydroponics and the second in coco, and in both runs the outcome was the same: good-looking plants with okay structure… but zero aroma, zero taste, and herm traits.

Still, I enjoy the process of growing. And since I don’t have easy access to high-quality seeds at the moment, I decided to give these accidental seeds a shot — hoping that maybe, just maybe, one of them will break the cycle and surprise me.

You’re at the place with the best genetics to be found, IMO. I feel your pain. I’ve been growing out VX-1000 seeds one at a time for a couple of years. It’s billed as a really loud-smelling plant but so far it’s been more of a stealth grower’s dream. The smoke is good, so i keep growing them but I also keep getting disappointed by the lack of loud smells.

If you haven’t already, check out the seed trading thread. There are many Oaxacan lines out there with interesting smells and I just harvested a really loud Zamaldelica an OGer graciously provided. Plus too many other strains to mention.

I don’t know if it’s true, but anecdotally for the few years I’ve been growing it seems like plants that herm give me better smoke. Unless they create a bunch of male flowers I try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I feel you, bro, and I respect your opinion — but honestly, I’ve grown stuff from Green House, Sensi Dutch, even some no-name preenseeds, and none of them disappointed me like these Gorilla seeds did. Smoking that stuff was like puffing on air — no flavor, no high. Once you hit a certain level, it’s hard to accept anything less, you know?

This run is more about managing a bigger number of plants, like 10+, and getting a feel for how much space I’ll really need.
I’ve already got some fire genetics lined up, but I still depend on a few people to help get them to me safely — gotta keep things low-key.

Appreciate the advice, man. One thing I’m still unsure about is whether I should even bother popping the rest of those seeds or just chuck ’em

Truer words have never been spoken. If you keep popping seeds you’ll eventually find what you’re looking for. But with the right line you shouldn’t have to pop that many.
