I’m starting my first selfing project. I really enjoy ECSD and would like to S1 it should I lose the clone I have back up genetics. Wouldnt mind sifting through the S1s just to look at parents and possibly grandparent expression. Ill also throw some of that pollen on some other ladies, Irene for sure.
I’ve decided to do a 9 plant grid. Each plant getting a different strength solution and spray cycle. 10/20/30% delusion rate. At a 3, 4 or 5 day cycle. This just to see what produces the most pollen. I hear of much trial an error from even experienced breeders. Sometimes not enough, sometimes too much causing too many clustered sacks so they cant open.
I’ll be using the STS solution detailed in grow from your heart podcast episode 602 I believe.
I did my initial spray last night 1 week prior to the light flip. This is also taking place under a 100w hlg board.
Very interesting project. I want to see the results and what method gives out more pollen.
I have recently STSd a plant, and used .3mMol STS … and it reversed, but no pollen at all.
Sprayed once a week before flowering was induced. I’m 10 days into flower now. The plants look relatively healthy I guess to what I thought they’d look like. Perhaps the low wattage is saving them. Not alot to look at currently but I think I see some promising things. I’ll updated when i see more.
Sounds like a solid plan! You will def achieve what you’re trying to accomplish this way, unless it’s just one of those more difficult strains to reverse.
Are you removing them from the tent when doing your sprays at different dilutions?
Also s/o to Jeff, good dude always shows love & shares an abundance of good info !
I’m just spraying them in the tent with a small bottle. The kind with the top that pushes strait down. Its pretty easy to keep on target. Tonight i did bend a few as they’re getting a bit bigger.
Yeah man, R.J. just putting out good vibes and sharing knowledge. A real gem for new growers and experienced alike.
Should be okay, just be weary if you have females you don’t want reversed in the tent while spraying even a little bit can make some nanners pop up on a branch or two. I would take my reversals out of the tent spray all bud sites and inner-nodal sites, let dry then return.
So here we are at day 22 of 12/12. So far, 7 of the 9 are showing male flowers. The 2 showing the most are the 20% and 30% mixtures sprayed at the 3 day intervals. The ones being sprayed at 4 and 5 day intervals will still receive one more spray. I’ve decided for the sake of the experiment all subjects will receive only 7 applications of sts spray.
The next observation is to see which flower actually open and drop pollen. Followed by, is the pollen viable.
Also, worthy of noting all plants look pretty healthy. I’ve heard how reversed plants are ugly and can look fried or twisted up. I think its due to the low wattage light. On the flip side I’m thinking with more wattage and/or warmer temps the plants would produce more male flowers faster.
It’s a very interesting project, I wish you the best of luck possible. I have not easily access to clones as I live in Europe, the few sent to me from the US didn’t survive the travel sadly. It makes me very interested in this type of projects, I love the Diesel family even if I have never grown the original clone I have made a good number of seeds with ECSD genetics, in crosses or BX.
So far the best version I have grown were the Sowahh from Karma, those seeds deliver a great representation of his Sour D mother from 2007. The most gasoline smelling plants came from White Diesel seeds bought in 2008, I have no idea what clone was selfed to create those seeds but they had a very strong citrus smell in veg and once in flower they were pure gasoline, to the point it was too much and was a repulsive smell.
If you ever need to test grow your S1’s I would happily do it.
Looking good! next time if you have the space start flowering the reversed selections a week or so prior (in seperate area) then reintroduce the reversal plant to your flower tent & start 12/12 this way the male bits will be mature enough to drop pollen & knock up your females at the perfect time. This should be fine how you’re doing it - just keep in mind it’s going to take at least 6 wks for those seeds to mature. good luck! Hope you get a ton of beans!
