Glad your back @mota !!
I got to go through the Willamette National Forest all the way up to near the base of Mt. Hood. Wow… Standing at the base of a “semi-dormant” volcano (in a geologically active part of the world) was a real…thought-starter. The PNW is an amazing part of the world.
Think about it: You can go from a place that never freezes (parts of the coast) and only a day’s drive you can be in a place that never thaws (above the timberline). Very cool.
My first experience in the PNW was in 1963, when I stayed with one of my sisters (they’re nine years my senior) for six weeks.
It was the first time I had flown and I was doing it alone, from L.A. to Eureka, CA. It was a propeller driven plane, not a prop-jet, and when they rolled the stairs out to the plane and I stepped out of the plane, I felt a sense of really being at home for the first time in my life. Standing on that small platform with those adults behind me bitching about my not moving, it was an exuberant moment in my life that I will never forget! All of the green and the amazing smell. None of that has changed in the ensuing more than 60 years.
In 1967, I went to live with that same sister, this time in the Lynn Valley in N. Vancouver, B.C. By this time, I’d been smoking weed for a couple of years, and so I naturally gravitated to the budding (every pun intended) community of hippies there. That summer, I spent a lot of time in Lynn Valley Park, where we’d walk down to that naturally occurring water slide, get as fucked up as we could, and go over the slide! It’s about a 12 or 15 foot drop. There’s also a smaller slide just out of frame below the one you see. Fun as hell for a city boy like me!
You can see that our yard is in a state of flux relative to the last time I posted pictures of it, which were different than the time before, etc, etc! HA! And here, from left to right, are all of the yard’s best parts in all of their aesthetic wonder! All of the junk itself is the product of my neighbor’s worthless son. Its shifting nature in the yard is the owner’s handiwork. Fuck.
The plants themselves continue to grow. You’ll have to take my word for that today.
I definitely do not want this to be a weedless post. Here’s what I’m germinating at the moment. The Gelato and Wombat are commercial and have been in moist paper for a couple of weeks. They’re somewhat old seeds. I’ll give them a little more time. The new additions to the plate are all from @JohnnyPotseed, thank you very much sir! They are R/P Walkin-stein, Fem/P Frankenstein, and Fem/P Frankenstein x MonkeyBusiness. I will keep one of each of the new ones and give the others away to friends once they’re big enough. I plan to germinate more seeds in a couple of weeks. I will also be giving half of those away. In my life, I have found very little that matches the joy of giving away weed in any form!
Thanks for looking!
Today is a fabulously beautiful day here in Berkeley!
This is the alley, where my plants overnight and spend the morning, just as in past years. I still have to move all of my plants, tiny as they currently are, twice a day - out of and then back into the alley.
All of the newly “plated” seeds have either have sent out a first shoot or are cracked, revealing their soft inner selves. There has been no movement with either the Wombat or the Gelato. I’ll give them another week or maybe two.
And the seedlings just keep on keepin’ on… It’s a little difficult to see in a couple of the pictures, but all of these have true second leaves happening. Yeah weed!
Thaks for looking!
Go weed go, see @mota grow !
It’s another beautiful day here in Berkeley, and another late update!
These next three photos are of what I had germinated when I last took pictures. I’ve only taken close ups of three because I managed to partially dump the other three out a couple of days ago. I was unable to find the seeds, but scooped up all the dirt and put it back in the cups. We’ll see if any break ground. In the meantime, I’ll start replacements, perhaps even today.
I feel like I should have more to say but just don’t. The bong. Where’s the bong?
Thanks for looking!
Edit:
I also tossed the Wombat and Gelato seeds that hadn’t germinated in several weeks. I replaced them with “new” seeds (from 2022). I’m also starting replacements for the cups I dumped as described above. I’m also starting a couple of different autos, these from @misterbee. They are the TimeWarp and Purple Kush x AK-47.
Very exciting to just be freakin’ germinating seeds again! I’m trying the sponge method for germinating. Never done this before. I’ve only germinated in a paper towel.
Thanks again for looking!
Best of success, Bro!!! With your expertise, I forsee nothing but. SS/BW…mister
Das werden bestimmt ein paar schöne Pflanzen werden, viel Erfolg!
I’m definitely hoping so! Thank you so much for your well wishes, @m0sirys!
It’s another beautiful day here in the Bay Area, and in local news, more seeds hit the dirt.
Here are the first five. They don’t look as good as I’d like, but they ain’t dead! This is the first time I’ve started plants in Solo cups. I think I have to move my plants too often to use them i the future. They’re too top heavy for my constantly changing, junk filled unfinished (and that’s putting it mildly) backyard.
These next three went into dirt a few days ago.
I thought I had a more inclusive picture of the germinated seeds showing all of their markers fully. Sigh…
I liked germinating on the sponge. I used a folded paper towel as a top. There are two seeds that have not yet popped.
Here’s who hit the dirt today. The Mango and Wombat are Blimburn. The rest are OG!
Okay, okay, I feel kind of silly posting pictures of basically potting soil. I’m just thrilled to be growing again and I’m really happy to be trying autos! And I’m really excited at the thought of a mid-season crop as well as another one later! That will be very fun!
Thanks for looking!
You’re off to a great start!
I do think I’ve seen that yet. Brilliant but can’t say I’ve seen it.
How are things going?
Thank you for asking, @FieldEffect. To be honest, I’d have to say that for at least a little while, things had pretty much stopped going on the growing front. Nothing looked good, and that’s being generous. It was more than a little depressing. Then, while I was going through a box of stuff looking for something entirely different, I came across a bag of little peat pots for seedlings and realized the two years I grew successfully, I had used these (or something very similar).
So, over the course of of the next few weeks I germinated some new seeds. When they showed a strong tail, I put them in the old peat cups I found. They hit the dirt when their heads popped out of the cups. I think I’ll wait to see if they flourish before I talk about what’s what. Don’t pay any attention to the dates.
I guess this is a pretty terrible photo. HA!
It seems to me late to have such tiny plants, but I’ve never grown an auto. We’ll see.
Thanks for looking!
I don’t think it’s too late AT ALL. It’ll be fine
Sorry to read about your troubles but persistence will make it work
Good for you buddy
Hey @mota . I just now found this thread. I jumped ahead to the end to see what is happening now but Im gonna go back and read the whole thing. I only grow outside too and Im as disorganized as you are. ha ha ha I thought about starting my own grow log but I would not maintain it very well. So Im just going to sit back and watch the show. Best of luck my friend.
Well, as you all know, I haven’t been posting much here. It’s just been a kind of depressing grow year for me, yet definitely better than last year’s kill! HA! Not that I haven’t killed off my share of seedlings this year, because I definitely have, in fact more seedlings than last year, but it appears that a few of my plants are going to make it this year.
This was my largest plant, which is pretty sad given it’s the summer solstice. I chopped it today because it overtly declared it’s masculinity last night. Shit. Buck up, self. You’ve still got several auto fems growing.
Thanks for looking!
Sorry it was a boy.
Hard to ‘like’ that post but cheers to a better rest of the summer and fall harvest
