Hey guys this just popped up in my feed.
Good timing though because I’ve only done small pot autos and I’m really curious what the difference will be.

looks like its from Mephisto genetics by the logo - don’t have 12 minutes to listen to it today. Simple answer :" the bigger the pot size the bigger the plant "be it reg, fems, auto genetics (there are some exceptions to this rule)
Pot shape too and what pot made of
: )
I imagine grow style matters too like liquid salts vs. dry organics. Watched this a coupla weeks ago cuz we got a few Mephisto plants in City Pickers in the greenhouse. Iirc the 5g was the winner.![]()
If you grow indoors I think it depends on how long you veg and flower tent height
, 3 gallons fabric pots are enough for me … ![]()
That basically was the answer yes. but the differences go down drastically. Basically 2-3 G is the sweet spot and the bigger the better for sure lol.
It was nice to see actual yield differences and just in general how good the plants reacted too the different gallon sizes !
air pots are a bit better because of plastic pots, ect can become “root bound”
So much this.
3, 3 1/2 gallons maybe 4-5 absolute max should max out just about any indoor tent even with the squattest of indicas and largest of square footage, simply due to height.
If you want to grow literal trees, you gotta move out side at which point what is a pot size? Off into mother earth they go.
Maybe if you work with raised beds I guess.
The more interesting question to pose would be “what is the smallest pot/raised bed size to not limit a plant in growth outdoors?” ![]()
Same could be asked for indoors of course but I feel the answer will be the largest that caps out at tent height, as @George already suggested.
The only other reason for max size pots or raised beds indoors I can see is why I use them: When groing organic to make the continued living soil web as large as possible and thus overall more formidable.
Big pots are ok as long as you have root system to match otherwise your probably going to run into ph issues if your in soil. Just because you stick a plant in big pot doesnt automatically mean going to be bigger than if grown in a smaller constricted pot. Its pointless unless your going to veg to increase the rootmass. I cant comment on autos as I rarely grow them but a good auto grower from long time back swore by not potting up autos and to plant the seed in a large pot from where it will stay.
As someone said (@anon33830044) already shape, design and fabric of a pot is of equal concern as volume. Bigger pots may mean more electric to veg to fill the rootmass out, more nutrients, more medium, visits to a chiropractor to fix your bad back from moving heavy pots around. So while a bigger pot may grow more weed whether its cost effective is another matter.
As for autos I finish reg seeds in about the same time grown from seed under 12/12 as the autos but I use a lot less electric, can take cuttings and have probably better yields. Autos and big pots do have their place just not in my grow.
Sorry for an essay and not watching the video.
I’ve grown out a lot of Mephisto autos and considering how inconsistent they are size and profile wise, I wouldn’t put much weight in the results here. I’ve also found them to generally be some of the smaller autos and seem more prone to stunting.
I routinely grow multiple plants per pot. Once you see what 5-10 autos of the same genetics in the same 3 or 5 gallon pot does, you’ll realize how flawed the results are. Doing that you’ll realize that pot size is only a part of it, and that these 4 seeds aren’t telling us much.
Nailed it @Acro!
That has been my same experience with Mephisto and all autos really. Prolly shoulda tried Night Owl. Just trying to fill a jar or 2 off season.
Bless Up
Exactly where I’m at, while I think of what strain to mainline next
