My second run in a tent I mostly grew outdoors in from south Carolina originally and I now live in Los Angeles California so I got me a setup think I’m doing pretty good kind hard to get everything dialed in exactly but I need some type of self watering system that doesn’t break the bank
Nice clean and tidy setup…
Take a look at the autopot systems, many of us here using it. With any cheaper watering system the risk of flooding is still there, but easy to contain if you have a plan for the spillage. Like a hydro tray.
Blumats seem better suited for outdoors in my opinion. Although iv never used them iv read quite a bit…
Yeah I use a shop vacuum and get my runoff up with it
+1 for TROPF BLUMAT
no timers, no power, indoor and outdoor
the ceramic just drys out and shrinks to open the drip line, when it gets wet it expands, and closes the drip line. it only feeds when the plant needs it.
get the 12 pack, they are very reliable, if setup correctly. and can be dialed in very accuratly, big pots like 10+ gallon may need a second dripper
they are best for water only, so salts dont build up.
if you want to run them with nutrients, add somthing like DRIP CLEAN to your resivoir to keep buildup away.

Blumats are great for vacation but not for long term/consistent use - especially if feeding nutrients.
There are a million ways to automate irrigation, personally I decided on switching to octopots and giving each plant its personal rez.
I have blumats. You can see them in my journal. It took 2 or 3 “floods” to get them dialed in. I use a small 2.5 gal res and 2 to 3 carrots per pot. This current grow saw one of the carrots malfunction and drown a plant. I blame user error but basically it would stay open until the soil became completely saturated so it never flooded just maintained full saturation until the plant died.
All said I would rather a couple issues like this than what happened before I had them which was dried out larf.
It takes a bit of practice to get them dialed in, but once you do they can be very useful
However, they’re not exactly designed for indoor use and there are some notable limitations of the system. If they dry out, you need to recalibrate them, which is possible without removing them but kind of tricky.
Basically if you can get them dialed in and never let the reservoir run dry or get air bubbles in the lines, you will have some great plants.
I love Blumats. They are just the best way to water in my opinion, especially combined with a tensiometer to set and monitor the moisture content. Most evryone brings up the flooding/runaway thing. You have to test it when you set it up. check it. Once dialed in it works extremely well, like I just add water to the resevoir (and even that could be taken care of with a float valve).
I have a friend that uses them with nutrients. He has to clean his lines after every run (with H2O2) and hes a long-time commercial grower. I"m organic so don’t run nutes through it. I just pre-amend my soil and if in flower i want to add something like a tea i just water it in myself.
Also you can call Sustainable Village with any questions and my experience is they will talk with you about it. Very helpful folks
