Hello everyone,
I have a 5x5 tent and want to divide it so I can have a veg and flower side. I haven’t been able to find tent dividers like the ones sold in the 2 n 1 tents but I really want to maximize this tents space. Any economic friendly help is greatly appreciated! Happy growing!
I don’t know if it will work for you, but one possibility would be to make two floors if you have enough height. I have a friend who does this; he does the vegetative stage downstairs and the flowering stage upstairs.
The usual dimensions for those are 4x1 and 4x5 sections. So long as you don’t need an airtight divider your options are open.
Personally I’d look at a piece of panda film.
Getting it positioned and reasonably light tight will be the big fight.
Cheers
G
If it is an actual tent, i have a buddy whom seperated his tent using large construction bags, pvc pipe and gaffers tape from the musical instrument store to make a barrier in between the two sides. I dont like how his tent opens, its like a d shaped zipper door.
My worry was the temp difference per side, so he holes in the bag higher then the lights and lower then the plants canopy to help circulation. He uses two 100watt light bars, one per side. I told him he could get a larger light per side but that is what he is running. He has burger kush going on the one side and nothing on the other yet.
He is old school and not an “instagram type grower” as he said and wont even let me take pictures of anything, or i would show what his setup looks like.
Panda film, and some gorilla tape.
Big section of cardboard from a refrigerator box??
edit – or how 'bout anoter 2x4 tent inside the 5x5 ![]()
panda film and velcro or diy zipper door. half inch thick celotex insulation board for something a little more structural.
You got picture of the tent?
For the materials alone to split, you would be better off buying the cheapest 2x4x6/4 on Amazon. Split your inline fan, Veg/clones don’t require alot.
Just put a smaller tent inside of your bigger tent. You will probably want to position the new smaller tent so that you can use one of the exhaust ports on the existing larger tent. Should be quick and easy and fairly inexpensive tents online. Go for one with the quality fabric so you don’t have light leak problems. Cheers !!!
How high is the room the tent is in?
My ceiling is about 10 feet high and I could do this.
Tents are usually about 6.5 feet high so I could make a sturdy vege box, and put the tent on top of it.
First thing id do with a 5x5x6.5 is lay it over on its side. Turns 25sqft to 32.5sqft with plenty of headspace left at 5’. Enough room for 3 2x5 grows w 6 plants
Ya can turn any small space in your home into a temp veg area. They also have small tents that would suit your needs without all the construction…lol
You can buy or build a 2x2x36" tall grow tent or box very easily. Put that outside your tent for a mother and clones. Or use it for a tiny veg space.
Inside your tent. Buy a small standing closet or garage storage or wardrobe. Like used off Craig’slist. Or thishttps://www.walmart.com/ip/232715573?
You then have a separate growing closet for mother’s or vegging or autos.
They make 5x5 2 in 1 grow tents that have a whole separate section
Back 2017, I wanted my small veg tent to do some double duty.
My weird idea, 2 floors.
This is how I added a 2nd floor, to my tent, but I wanted an early veg area, on 20/4 timer.
Then down below, I want an 18/6 timed area, what I call hard veg as they will be migrating to a dedicated flower tent.
I did not snap a pic, but first I fit a piece of garden wire, between the tent ceiling and the support poles, for a way to hang my lights and easy to change positions. I know, stupid simple, just how I roll, LOL!
I used 2 or 3 T-5 sticks above, as an area to crack open seeds, some germination space, and some cloning.
Down below, I hung a T5 8 tube fixture, I buy HO T5’s myself. The box I bought in 2014, still has a few tubes in it.
They are very bright, and will not burn leaf, unless contact is made to the leaf.
Upper area, lower darkish.
Lower area.
Simple PVC fittings, 4- threaded hooks, cut to fit PVC pipe.
I used some hard back insulation 1" thick, for my floor above, a left over from god knows what other project.
Hooks with threads.
I drilled 4 end caps to thread the hooks into.
How the floor hangs.
My apologies to the OP, as this is probably not what your seeking, simply what I did. I was feeding a dedicated 4’ x8’ x 7’ flowering tent back.
Thank you!
PVC pipe (3/4")
A few of these depending on how you make your design:
And then some of pvc pipe Uclips to hold panda film (black/white) to the frame.
Similar to what @webeblzr shared but less faffing around.
I used similar stuff to build a shelf giving me 2 floors in a 2x4 tent for my mothers… but they are always in veg. I could though add panda-film in between and have an upstairs/downstairs with 12/12 and then 18/6 respectively. Thought I like your idea of a vertical wall as it would be a pain in the ass to vent my mothers tent 2 ways.
I did something a bit similar with EMT tubing, and a box of multiple types of EMT fittings, that I scrounged off a job site, well out of the dumpster.
Mine was really crude, kinda like me, LOL!
Mine is OCD… Like me!
Though I did reuse all the 3/4 from other projects, and only bought the connectors because I didn’t have 3/4 in my hoard of “never throw away unless breaks and thus is useless” pile(s).
You should take your carbon filter off until it starts to flower. They are only good for 3-6 months before you have to replace the carbon sheet inside (take the screws off and swap it out). No filter in veg can make it last a year. Using a sock/filter cover on your intake to keep dust off your flowers
