How to pollen single branches outdoor grow in pots

So i am going to attempt to pollinate multiple single branches of multiple plants eaxh branch with different pollen. I have a basic idea of how to do this thanks to @budderton @dougdawson @upstate and many others so hopefully this idea seems reasonable.
First i was going to bring plant inside in tub where there is no wind.
second cover entire plant except wanted branch with plastic bag.
3rd Pollinate the branch and let sit for 12-18 hrs
4th after set time water deactivate pollen(making sure i have a few orange pisitls first)
5th label branch and take plant outside.
6th bring in next plant and repeat.

For some reason my gut is telling me to do one plant branch at a time then put that plant back outside for a couple of days before pollinating another branch.

Should this be a decent method to pollinate individual branches without polluting other pollinated branches?

any adjustments, pointers, suggestions, or ideas please share also any successful attempts at this and methods would be great.

If I could I will use this:

A bag per branch you want to apply pollen to, small hole to fit the end of a small powder blower or puffer blow your polen in and seal it with a bit of heat or tape or contact glue , leave it for several days.

You restrain pollen in the bag and allows you to either work with different pollen on each branch or keep the rest of the plant seedless

thanks! these plants need to go back oitside after pollination. With temps 105°+ will probably kill the branch. overnight inside it might work.:+1:

actually those would work! great investment for later. now i dont have $ so trying to use what i have.

Sounds solid. I’d probably use a ear swab for more controlled pollen application and change clothes before returning the plant outside.

Some good advice :ok_hand:, im curious if anyone has a simple method for plants outside to pollen dust one arm on a few that are in raised beds . Its generally breezy and sunny so im thinking about the qtip mentioned above vs a paint brush i would use for indooors , just wanted to see if a bag would be ideal. For just one small section tagged n thing’s, i dont want it to spread any advice id realy appreciate ! - mizer

I’ve put the pollen in a bag, then taped bag with pollen around the branch I want to pollinate, shake vigorously, then I immediately sprayed down all the other branches to minimize any accidental pollination on all other branches. I think I wated 24 hrs, removed the bag, and sprayed down the plants again, and was surprised how well it worked out for me. No seeds in the “sensi branches”

Good luck dude

I’m with @Pakore .

Bag up each branch you wanna hit up; make a flap so you can access the branch with a paintbrush and painters tape to close it up.

Go one at a time and on a windlass day or if it’s small enough to move into your garage or something. The latter is what I did with the Bai Taigia when i pollinated it.

I personally use paper bags (lunch, etc) for this as they breath, but right now i couldn’t because of the weather.

Best of success @420noob & @MizerOfHeat37 !

Ya most should fit in my house so I should be good with the wind control. The qtip or brush seems ideal. I’d rather make a few seeds that are known then a bunch of possible randoms
Thanks for ideas and support everyone.

Hey @420noob , i got this one from a Mel Frank book, i think.
Under a still air environment, you can pre-load individual papper bags, trapping the pollen at the end and then take them to your plants, saving the hassle of moving stuff around. Then simply secure the pre-loaded bag around the branch you wanna pollinate , remove the upper, pollen retianment elastic band , shake, and let the party begin. After a day or so,(they really only need a couple hrs under such close quarters) take the sprayer and soak that bag down till its falling apart. Any active pollen will be deactivated or at least immobilized untill you can get the clean up. In theory you can do multiple males on one female plant but I only mess with one male genotype at a time. Here’s a detailed drawing i slaved over(not really😅) that i hope illustrates the tech.

Good morning, folks! I’m going to take advantage of this recent topic to ask:

Is it the right time to pollinate, or still too early?

The male has started releasing pollen and I’m collecting it. But I believe I can wait a few more days for it to release more pistils.

They’re 16 days into flowering, but since I did a heavy defoliation, they’re a bit behind

You are ready to go now if you want.

Ive done dozens of controlled outdoor pollinations. The best and simplest method is to place pollen in a sandwich bag. Stick one of the lower branches in the bag, twist tie the bag close. Shake and leave it on there for 2 days. The humidity/condensation will destroy all the pollen that was not used. Remove bag and your good to go :+1:

With this method I was able to produce a few hundred seeds off one lower branch. If your goal is to make a few thousand seeds, use more bags and hit multiple lower branches. I dont prune lower branches for this very reason. They are the best option for easy and controlled pollinations.

Will the lack of air be a problem? Two days without air and moisture buildup
