How to reamend soil?

So ive been using and reusing my soil for a few years now. I amend my soil with gaia green, dr.earth, recharge. During my grows i always have magnesium deficiency. So what can i add to the soil when im reamending?
I use organics. I know epson salt can help.
I also use a RV inline filter to get my water. It might be removing stuff as well.
Thank for the advice.

Haha no you go @Gpaw

Anyway. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Do you ever test your runoff pH? It’s a common idea that folks don’t need to ever worry about ph with organics. While it is sort of true, there are lots of things that can cause soil pH to creep up or down and cause those symptoms. Epsoms are a great start. Adding inputs to keep your pH in a healthy range is my general strategy for reammending. If you know you’re mag deficient, then I’d start adding a few grams of epsoms to your water. If you aren’t sure, I’d rest your runoff pH first and go from there. Many wishes of success.

I haven’t tested runoff, but I do PH the water going in.

(Jonathan Green Mag-I-Cal Plus for Lawns in Acidic and Hard Soil Annual Program Lawn Conditioner For Mfr# 11354 - Ace Hardware)
im kind of a fan boy i also use there Amazon.com : Jonathan Green (12190) Love Your Soil, Soil Food for Lawns in Hard Soils - Soil Amendment for Grass & Vegetable Gardens (5,000 Sq. Ft.) : Patio, Lawn & Garden when amending soil pots.
I use both products on my tomato beds. i have no lawn.

Dolomite lime (not ag lime) is a great amendment for magnesium supplementation. It’s natural CalMag. This stuff is in prilled form, so slow release

I normally have 40-50gal of soil cooking

Gypsum and epsoms are the answer :pray:t3: those look pretty good. You’re on top of it. Little calcium and mag sulfate will go a long way.

I have a bag of calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate for when I was growing mushrooms. So those will work? Never mind, those don’t have magnesium

Check out kisorganics. They do soil tests through Logan labs. But they also offer consulting based off of the test results. My buddy is using them and have great success with it. I think it runs 65 bucks for the test 100 with the consultation.

It takes out the guesswork

Crab meal for calmag!

I have greenrush cal-mag powder and also aurora root organics cal-mag powder.

I want to add to the cooking soil, not the individual plants

use a dolemite lime and epsom salts combo mix. will give you both magnesium and calcium.

it’s also wise to add some fresh soil or fresh compost back into your soil every other rotation.

You mentioned using recharge to reamend and i wonder if any other sugars are added? Plants look healthy and happy from here.

Recharge has molasses in it but i also use foop sweetener. It has a lot of different sugars in it. Its liquid and i add it every other watering.
Sometimes i use molasses itself.

I’m just doing my first run and was having trouble with this same issue. I started giving Epsom salt and it seems to have pretty much cleared up.I’ve been doing a little looking and it seems like its fairly common. I read somewhere that peat moss is very acidic so if your mix is peat based that could be the issue.

I use Kelp and Alfalfa meal in my soil. Both add magnesium and a lot of other nutrients.

Kelp Meal 1-0-4 potassium, magnesium, calcium, and nitrogen full of trace Minerals, Carbohydrates and Amino Acids

Alfalfa Meal 3-.5-3 phosphorus potassium calcium, magnesium, sulfur, Manganese, iron, copper, boron, and zinc

My soil recipe

2 CU F Soil Base, I used promix as my base.

1 Cup Soybean Meal 7-2-1 Nitrogen and Potassium Lasts in soil for 1-2 years.

1 Cup Neem Meal 6-1-2 stimulates growth of plants and microbes in compost and soil protects against soil and root pets

1 Cup Kelp Meal 1-0-4 potassium, magnesium, calcium, and nitrogen full of trace Minerals, Carbohydrates and Amino Acids

1 cup Alfalfa Meal 3-.5-3 phosphorus potassium calcium, magnesium, sulfur, Manganese, iron, copper, boron, and zinc

1/2 cup Langbeinite 0-0-22 potassium, magnesium, and sulfur neutral PH
4 cups rock dust trace minerals and micronutrients feeds microbes

2 cups oyster shell flour Its calcium helps balance soil pH levels, improves nitrate uptake, aids enzyme formation and strengthens plant cell walls

5 cups worm castings Nitrogen, feeds microbes, adds organic matter, enhance seed germination, plant growth, flowering and fruit production.

2+ cups Diatomaceous Earth Adds Silica PH Neutral Calcium great for plant cell growth,

1/2 cup BSF Frass blend of N-P-K and minerals chitin good for plant health and disease resistance, feeds microbes

Roots that grow in this soil

How much do you add per gallon of soil?

You can never really add too much. Calcium raises pH, so add some organic matter like EWC if you want to add a bunch.
