Howard's Hunt for Headstash

That’s an Orange Goji. I had flopped that top, then when I cut all the others it popped back up lol. Had to be the tallest in the tent, I guess.

I actually have a plant in there that’s even frostier, but I can’t get to it to get a good photo

In other news, I stuck ten cuttings of Zak Haze in the fridge like six or more weeks ago… They froze, then I got sick and forgot about them. A few days ago I finally got around to throwing them away, and amazingly there were still three that didn’t look dead, so I stuck them in some coco. They still don’t look dead, and in fact look like they may even root.

Love that strain, btw. And it’s obviously quite hardy as well, which is a huge plus :grinning:

Just discovered that the pump for the flood and drain in the minicab had died, probably two or three days ago based on how the plants have been looking progressively more sad for about that long.

I pulled it apart, and there was a chunk of pumice stuck in the impeller that is way too large to have gotten sucked in through the cover grate. Not sure how the hell it got in there, but it killed the pump :slightly_frowning_face:

It’s too late to save the plants, unfortunately. Just chopped them and trashed them. And I’m honestly considering just not restarting the cab for a while. I could use less work in my life right now.

R.I.P. to that top, I just chopped it also. As much as I liked it, I don’t think being three inches from the lights is going to work out in the long term, and in the meantime it’s throwing shadows on everything around it. Might be overkill, but I’m extremely short on patience today and absolutely not in the mood for dealing with anything that displeases me, so it had to go.

came in through the flood line ?

and sometimes a short patience helps gets things done quickly

Ohhhhhh. Yup, that has to be it. I need to double check, but I’m betting it would fit through that.

i get coco wash back sometimes if my watering events flood the top of the pots and submerges the tube ends, so know all to well of the occasional clog, and keep my eye open for it

On my larger setup I used to use an inline filter, but it didn’t fit the space here. I guess I’ve been lucky so long I forgot to periodically check.

That’s gonna need to get fixed, lol.

Speaking of which, I like your system and I’m thinking of converting to top drip as soon as I can get another octabubbler.

That’s what I’m doing in the main tent now (except dtw instead of recirculating), and I’m really liking it.

Dang. Sorry to hear about that darn pump. Take that break and best wishes on futures!

(Hmmm. I remove all grates and covers. Maybe better to put it a mesh bag/sock before I suffer the same.)

Pretty sure it’s a 1:1 with sugar…on low heat, let the sugar caramelize and mix it all together. Using leather gloves press and form a shape, we usually just did balls, like making a snowball the size of a baseball. Let it cool and you’re good to go! Homemade smoke bomb! We made a huge one once, about the size of a bowling ball and set it off under an overpass. Shut that shit down for an hour…lol…dumb effin kids.

I have a hell of a time getting in there to get a photo, and my phone apparently won’t focus correctly being inches under the light crammed in amongst so many distractions, but I tried :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

ooh that looks nice and frosty too!

I had to switch to soil due to being tired of all the work of DWC. Been debating something like this or mr. sparkle’s setup for the future. Are you using a specific cycle timer for your pump(s)?

I’m just using these cheap digital wall timers for lights and pumps:

I would like to use a cycle timer so that I could get seconds resolution, but I have to make do with this for now. They’ve served me well, my only real complaint is that now that I’m doing DTW in the tent, watering for a full minute three times per day produces more runoff than I need. I would much rather do thirty seconds three times daily, or something more precise. I could compensate by limiting the flow rate, but it seems likely to me that I’m going to switch back to recirculating after this run so I haven’t bothered.

Oh nice, that’s super helpful. I’ve been struggling to find one that will do even just 1 minute once a day . The only affordable cycle timers I found were very short cycle, could do 1 second waterings but had to be every single hour, couldn’t go longer than an hour between cycles. The rest would be water for 15min as many times a day as I want, which won’t work either.

These timers make me wanna do another flood and drain setup

I really like having multiple programs available. When the plants are small, I can water once per day every three days, for instance, and then progress to every other day, twice on Sundays, every day, multiple times per day, whatever they are ready for. Very flexible.

I’ve been using the ‘nearpow’ digitals. They do seconds.

Latest…

Using this…

I keep an extra spare just in case.

I’ve looked at those, and have been interested. Next time I need a timer, I think I’m gonna give one of those a try. Is it a pain to set up the schedules?

I’ve had good success with nearpow timers as well. That’s the one I use, and just bought my wife for her veggie garden. I am using it in my mini flood and drain systems, because I like the schedule options. You can do time-based (eg. on at noon, off at midnight) or cycle based (on for 10 minutes off for 3 hours), or countdown based, which is pretty much the same.

I was going to recommend it, but I haven’t looked into programming below the minute level yet. It can do it on these, but I think there are some limitations.

I remember reading something about them randomly resetting and losing the schedules in interval mode in the reviews. I’m gonna have to go back and read those reviews to refresh my memory.

I don’t need second precision in flood and drain really, but it sure would be nice for DTW.

Easy to setup by following the instructions. The more schedules, the more tedious.

I do up to 5x a day. Something like…
9am 45sec.
11am 30sec.
1pm 30sec.
3pm 30sec.
5pm 45sec.

My bad. I had one fail on an outdoor grow. Not rated for outdoor.

Built in mini lith battery retains settings if power lost.
