Hydro DWC - prospecting for frosty tips

Follow along as I try my hand at my first hydro grow

After much research I have got my dwc setup and started my first seedlings. I soaked in 1% h202 for 18 hours then into paper towel in a bag.

I think I made a mistake by putting it on my stereo, my temp gun read 95 when I checked :flushed:

I got a seedling mat and they’ve been at 78f for 48 hours now.

Only the Swazi gold popped. I’m hoping the others do as well.

The Swazi has been planted into rockwool

The grow begins

Best of luck, growmie! Hope it goes well!

95 * F isn’t outside of tolerance for germination. Bit towards the high end of comfortable, but definitely not in the danger zone. You’re doin’ great so far from the sounds of it.

Color me intrigued at the mention of DWC.

Looking forward to following along. You’ve got this.

Congratulations on starting your grow. Here’s some reading material while you watch them grow.

You may come across LITFA during your grow.

Much success to you.

Little Guy is looking great. how tall does it get before you think it’s stretching? Looks good to me so far

Turns out the humidity was around 95%. Dropped it down to 75 and it seems happier

Not much to update. The Swazi gold is looking strong, still growing it’s first set of real leaves.

I successfully germinated a strawberry cough directly into a rockwool cube. 18 hours in h202 then into a cube at 82f worked really well.

My germination setup is probably overkill. I have a temperature controlled heat pad under a pot of water, inside one of those Styrofoam coolers. With the water set to 82, humidity holds at 99% and the seeds stay 81 ish. Eventually I will test germination directly into hydroton, but not this round.

Here’s my September run;

I’ll be running at least one male and female from @AdvancedGenetics cross with @deep_rob who made a northern lights cross that I’m super excited about

One strawberry cough that I got from a bag of dispensary weed, hoping it’s a fem photo. If the swazi is female I might run that too.

I’ll be testing a awesome looking gmo from @BirD who made it here.

The rest of my photos will be some fast flower from RQS or a clone from archive genetics. I’m leaning towards the blue dream at the moment because spending $80 for the rainbow belts 2 doesn’t seem worth it.

In my veg tent I’ve got room for two autos. One will be a northern lights from RQS that I’m going to breed with the northern lights photo. I think this makes it a ā€œfast flowerā€. If the smoke from the auto cross is decent I might breed some old school nl5 autos so I can grow them outdoors.

The other auto will be a cross made by @ChinookKing . A mix of Double Whiskey x Peach Crescendo which sounds great. I’m curious how his auto will compare to a commercial NL RQS. I’ll germinate both at the same time, they will be in the same tote getting the same feed. Genetics will play the biggest difference. My theory is the smoke from chinooks will be better than rqs. That’s the plan. Things might change a bit depending on how many males I get. I have space for one more so who knows what I save.

More updates in a few weeks

Today is the first day of hydro for the baby swazi gold.

I’ve got another seedling, a strawberry cough, growing it’s first set of real leaves.

Hopefully the swazi turns out to be female, otherwise it’s getting the chop when I germ the rest of my seeds later this month.

These first two plants are a test. If they don’t immediately die then mission successful

As this grows make sure youre not pouring water directly on the rockwool cube and water it from the bottom up. Edit: looks like you got them established in the dwc system.

It’s got almost inch long roots poking through the bottom of the rock wool cube. I set it just above the water line on hydroton so it should be kept moist by the bubbles.

And if not, then it was a good test lol

Heck yeah!!!

That’s a cool guide, thanks

No problem, looking good so far! Only thing i see that is a possible danger is constant moisture on the stalk sometimes will make them rot and flop over, and if the first bit of hydroton isnt dry green algea will grow on the cube, and white dust bs will start developing on the hydroton.

Best seed starts I ever ran in hydro I kept the water pretty low - maybe psychological but they reached for it faster. big difference with autoflowers you’re on such a timer.

unless youve got fifteen feet of height I’d top that thing you got goin wicked early like third node and flip to flower two new nodes each head after the top takes. once established and really drinkin you can CRANK the lights in hydro. super psyched to see this one go :metal::metal:

I started 25% strength master blend with some agsil 16h. .5 EC at 5.9 ph. My waters cold at 62f and the tent is only 65f. Gonna order a aquarium heater and get my tent heater setup. I think these temps are slowing growth

Found a little scare yesterday with some algae growing in my tank thanks to the people in sick pants. It was starting the cover the roots and was the start of root rot. After fixing the light leaks and swapping out some water, I think we’re in the clear. Checked the roots today and there’s no more goop.

I think the yellow leaf edges are nitrogen deficiency from the algae or light burn or vpd burn. Not sure really

Edit. It was vpd. The leaves are happier and it’s growing faster with the increase in temp
