I believe we have been using the term ‘phenotype’ wrong for decades

Most weed terminology is kinda half wrong. It is what it is though, it’s kinda fun having our own vernacular that will change as legalization continues and more traditional academic agricultural sciences get in on it.

I try not to get hung up on it but it’s true. It’s a big pain in the ass that folk refuse to educate themselves. Big pain in the ass when some clown comes along and bitches his strawberry seed did not come out like his corn. Spinning around in circles like a clown, trying to jam square pegs inside of round holes. Pick up a fucking book man. That’s why every ten years :joy:

…so Tom, what are your thoughts on the hash market today? :grinning:

I think it’s research is as infantile as any other. I think sour d makes the best hash in the last several decade. Where as haze, the best plant in our lifetimes makes lesser quality hash. And nodody’s really doing much to figure out why.

Hmmm, is it that people are still running crosses and not getting into the genetics?

I think that is basically the Crux of the issue yes. Surfers basically ride longboards or shortboards. There is this bullshit cookie type market in-between selling you these in-between values the mid length board pretending to be the best of both worlds when in fact it is the worst of both worlds. Fill your pocket with haze on the left and Ghani on the right this is the way forward. Screw that mid length board it’s for squares.

Makes me wonder if there are a lot of imports out there. Say for instance in the last 75 years farmers overs seas were breeding for a hash market…then they cross to american elites watering down those genes…

phene: the phenotype ofthe plant, which is a product ofthe gene (gene >DNA > transcription >RNA> processing > translation > protein) and the interaction with the environment gene >>> phenotype
phenocopy: a nonhereditary phenotypic change that is environmentally induced during a limited developmental phase of an organism; it may mimic the effect of a known genetic mutation gene
phenogenetics: a branch of genetics that studies the interaction of the genotype and its manifestation gene
phenology: the study of the impact of climate on the seasonal occurrence of flora eco
phenotype: the observable manifestation of a specific genotype (i.e., those properties on an organism, produced by the genotype in conjunction with the environment) gene
phenotypic expression: the manifestation of a particular gene resulting in a particular phenotype gene
phenotypic plasticity: the capability of a genotype to assume different phenotypes gene
phenotypic segregation: the phenotypic differentiation patterns ofcells or individuals in segregating populations, as opposed to genetic segregation gene >>> Table 2

I find the plants that put off the sandy type keif make some of the most enjoyable hash. I always came to understand that what made a good hash plant was a cultivar that had been bred for hash production and has trichomes that detach easily from the plant material. I’m sure other things like the thickness of the cells walls etc etc contribute to the texture and over all quality of the end product.
Man I love me some good clean fresh dry sift light press hash

Again brother. Quality cannabis is not found in Hawaii or south East Asia India or Africa. It’s a moving target. Breeding cannabis is the reason it’s so good and so bad simultaneous. Nothing last forever nothing. These places that these kids chasing had their time, it’s over lol. Re-fucking calibrate your cannabis radar.

I think that is all wrong. I am a grease man.

I like both but am lazy and the greasier stuff is hard to work with but some authentic hand rubbed charas
( if I’m spelling that right ) is amazing.

What I’m implying is that the alot of the stuff on the market is watered down by people just making crosses (with their private gear) to improve strength. It’s not really a quality product that will stand the test of time.

I agree with you that cannabis breeding is a “moving target” as you put it. The whole culture and ecosystem has mostly been inclusive since the time of Alexander the great in Greece. What I mean is that the whole ecosystem is contained and “evolving” as a mostly cohesive unit. There is no district region but a culture of cultivation. There is the eastern farmers, the central Asian farmers (Arabia, india) and the European farmers.

Where is this improving strength that you speak of? I watched a few of recent podcast of breeders I hear them making selections around color and flavor. I want to rip my hair out and scream.

Haha, well I’m hoping the strength is improved. Im basically trying to classify between the long boards and short boards and mid length boards in a macroscopic sense.

Flavors make sense…it’s always played an important role in hash consumption, but colors…c’mon are you going to smoke it or put it in a flower pot?
