Yes, Thai weed did rip your head off grown in extremely variable environment. As in environment takes a very far back seat to genetics. You find Vietnam is still there sitting at the same latitude and environment all things are in place except the genetics have left town and so we are screwed lol.

That modern thaiweed in Thailand today, even the thinleaved ones arent the same, that i know. Collego, i only grow 70s Collected Landraces for that reason.

To be honest I think the best Thai weed on earth today is to be found rummaging through seedlots of haze. Quality cannabis is a moving target. There is no going back.

I did not hear anybody asking for seed that is right field off topic. I am telling you some of the last decent Thai weed on this planet was put into haze about 50 years ago. That’s where to find it. Not in Vietnam not in Thailand.

It’s not Thailand but the eastern Manipur Burma strain I grew from Indian landrace exchange was the most authentic long flowering explosive type herb I’ve seen in a long time, only problem is most people aren’t going to pull off or have patients for a 20+ week flower period. I’ve found the majority of people who think they want pure sativa realy want a 10-14 week sativa leaning hybrid. I’ve been told the pure haze lines were very long flowering plants also along with some old Malawi that used to float around Santa Cruze and was bred into many things by equilibrium. It’s like pure Jamaican lines , people say they have them but I feel like there rare as hens teeth.

I like this! This means the word pheno predates phenotype (obviously phenotype is English). Further with a meaning like shine or show, it could infer why “pheno” is used when differentiating between plants in the same cultivar.

Specifically the term phenotype is useless when describing Cannabis. You say a specific cultivar displays these phenotypes, or this pheno displays this phenotype.
When describing Cannabis the use of phenotypes is unspecific because many different plants display the same phenotypes. Today we describe cannabis based on cultivar, pheno AND phenotype. This provides a concise and accurate method of identifying cannabis. For instance; The White Widow Cannabis cultivar has a rare pheno which expresses an orange flavor and purple hues in the buds. With this information we can reliably identify and categorize cannabis.
One uses phenotype to describe traits in a specific pheno of a cannabis cultivar.
When we say we are pheno hunting, we are looking through a selection of a specific cultivar for new phenos or similar plants in the given populace.

This is utter nonsense. What you thinking you have a better word for what you are experiencing in every plant you have known ok go, what is your new word that you for some inexplicable reason needs to be invented for cannabis because it is so special from other plants lol?

As a side note to pheno hunting, the utility of this method is seen in that with say a very large population of plants (say 1,000,000) we are able to find “phenos” which are very rare and previously unclassified. Say phenos that occured 3/1000 or 1/10,000.

Sounds like some kind of a Sam dream based on an unrealistic rarity of gene frequencies. You’ll find elite individuals occur at a rate of approximately 5%. The figures he references assume a gene sequence rarity of less than one half of one percent. It don’t really wash in the real world.

No, there are indeed phenos that occured at rates of 3/1000 for the female populace… Further these plants were found in one plant from an entire field. Attempting to elaborate on the rarity of some phenos and utility of pheno hunting.

I’ll laborate a little more…so way back we were sending agents out buying seed lots. We bought so much that eventually some of the farmers wanted to sell us their entire crop! So we would buy entire crops…and pay for the plants plus “EXTRA” 
. This one farmer misinterpreted us and sold us his entire farm. (So sure enough when we went back next season the farm was fallow and the locals were wondering why we had let it go fallow…
) The guy thought we were buying his farm so he bagged up all the seed, shipped it to us in America, sold his equipment and moved to the city with his family!! Luckily he did a fantastic job off bagging and labeling the seeds from the different plants and getting them all to us. Haha, they were the last in existence of the specific cultivar his family has been growing for 100s of years. But we were running Pakistani satis.
And what’s that worth when any old clown can roll up to the table and spank them with a 1 in 20?

This is a great example of how far genetics have come. It used to be about the high produced, not the amount of resin on plants. Today crossing two elite produces great plants and the library of hybrids today produce outstanding progeny .
A little more on the above post…so this farmer that thought all the money was for his farm was one of the larger farmers in the region he concentrated on producing seeds and fiber. Also the farmers in this region would all have their own cultivars that their family had been growing for generations. These rare plants found in the seed lot (from only one of the plants) I suspect might have been available because the farm didn’t “do” hash thus these rare phenos were unexploited.
The target has never changed the kids these days have just taken their eyes off the prize babbling on about purple heavy field density and empty vessels… Maximum resin, maximum resin head size, maximum field density, maximum desired chemotype filling that space. This is our goal. I come around about every 10 years and just spank. You girls ready? Because here I come again.
