I was given BOGs soil mix from BOG himself

BOG gave me his soil mix back in the early 2000’s. I have been using it since then and it has behaved excellent.

1 bag of Sam’s Choice soil from Walmart
1 bag perlite
1 bag vermiculite
1 cup blood meal
1 cup bone meal

However, the recipe here shows a differentn recipe.

Does anyone know why the mix listed on this site is different from what I personally giot from BOG himself?

When I give the micx out people challenge me saying my mix is wrong, but I know for a fact it was the recipe BOG himself gave out back then.
Did he change it over the years?

Let them. And stop giving them things.

But there’s more than one way to do it I’m sure.

A Volume per bag @broncogrow, will just make it So much easier to visualize Comrade !!

I can see the perlite / vermiculite being proportional… still nice to have #’s

Thanks for Sharing Bro !!!:sunglasses:

A absolutely 50lb bag of Rice Hull Husks, cost just over $50 cdn at Black Swallow soil or earth etc…

I’ll find a link of theirs for you.
See if theres anybody similar near you!

I had that one before. Didn’t want the added fertilizer. I seen a huge bag at depot beginning of year cheap. Should have bought it must have been a mistake. I can get plain perlite at the nursery just seems a little pricey

That’s a good plan I’d say

Crap! I had no idea it had added ferts in it. Definitely do not want anything added to it.
Oh well. I usually get the Lowes brand at Lowes any how.

I don’t understand what you’re saying here. Can you elaborate?

Sure thing @petedacook

Things to use besides Perlite, or in conjunction with Perlite.

Rice Hill Husks are 100% organic, can be Got in Bulk for cheap, and after a few months of sharing moisture and promoting root growth, it gives Silica to the Soil before it self destructs as a Compost !

Great alternative to the huge costs associated with usable perlite, granted its organic… but it takes huge heat to become like popcorn and functional

That’s awesome?! Thanks for sharing.

I took a quick look on Amazon and that stuff is pretty pricey. Do you know of a lower cost source?

If you’re looking for rice hulls, I’ve found great deals on it through beer home brew websites and local home brew supply stores.
