I Was Gonna do a Tony Green JWOWW Grow Log But…IuhForgot

Top ‘o the bud to ya! The handle is IuhForgot. I have been a member of the basement brigade for going on twenty years now. I started with some bagseed and a 250 watt Sun System HPS around 1999 and I never looked back. After my first run turned out to be a successful one I started prowling the old boards including Overgrow–shortly before the big unpleasantness–and ended up spending a hundred bucks on some white widow seeds from Amsterdam (Greenhouse seeds maybe, I forget).

That was also my first “online” purchase. Back then, shopping online was still relatively new (like the porn) and I take pride in the fact that not only did I get some really good bud in that transaction but, in my own little way, I was integral in the development of web 2.0.

I’m still waiting for the thankful phone call from Al Gore.

I got pretty good at cloning and made those beans last about ten years before a new job required me to clean my act up and start acting like my girlfriend wanted.

Fast forward another five years. Contract IT work finally becomes a steady database development gig that lands me somewhere a little closer to home and I am able to enjoy my hobby again. I picked up a couple of those newfangled LED lights and cleared out a closet in my basement.

By this time the online seed sales have moved stateside and after a bunch of lurking on OG 2.0, Rollitup, and whatever other boards I can bookmark I decide that my first pack of seeds would be Tony Green’s Sowah Grapefruit.

Dammit, that strain turned out to be a winner for me. I’ve done a bunch of Tony’s gear since then and the quality has always been top-notch, but I kept Sowah around because I liked the grapefruit undertones. I thought they played well with the diesel gassiness. And the buzz is definitely a “get-shit-done” kind of high.

I’ve still got a bunch of my S1s and a bunch of S2s but I was looking for a change so I picked up some JWOWW along with his groovy grape flavor packs which I’m also looking forward to popping soon.

So, as they say, pics or GTFO…

First one is the main cola of the eldest.

The first thing I noticed is that these babies flower FAST and start stinking SOON. These are from day 36 or 37 for the two bushy monsters that developed first.

The larger of the two (below) was pollinated about two weeks ago so the bud size of that one is at least partially due to maturing seeds, but even so, they have been huge since day thirty–enough so that I’m like “WTF? Did someone switch my beans with Top 44?”

HEY, I NEVER SAID I WAS YOUNG!

The smell started off with a skunky, cat-piss funk that sometimes changed into dirty gymsocks. That told me this was going to be something special! But over the last week the smell has evolved into a more musky, complicated beast with hints of vanilla as the buds have matured.

Here’s a bud shot of the pollinated mother…how many seeds can you spot? (first-timer, hopefully OG’s upload won’t compress the file to shit).

The fan leaves that I haven’t unceremoniously hacked off the non-mother plants are yellowing rapidly and the color change has moved to the smaller bud leaves at the base of the plants. Only a couple more weeks indeed!

I scoped the main cola trichomes a couple of days ago and most were completely opaque. That’s why I first thought the plant was getting ready. But I flushed the plant yesterday and after taking another look today it looks like most of the trichomes have returned to milky-translucent so they should be ready right around day sixty-five…if I can wait that long.

There is something hypnotizing about a plant in heavy flower. Put a glass of scotch in my hand and a chair in front of my tents and I’m good for hours. And it looks like I’m not the only one.

This little feller hasn’t moved in a while. Puff puff pass, playa!

Once these are done I have a new project in mind that I cannot wait to start.

About twenty years ago there was some weed that showed up in town every fall for a couple of years shortly before Thanksgiving. It had a flavor that I can only compare to Juicy Fruit gum and was without a doubt the best-tasting weed I ever had. It wasn’t as powerful as some of the other bags I could get but I didn’t care. The taste more than made up for the mild stoneage.

It only showed up for a couple of years and then I could never get it again. I didn’t know anything about the strain other than the fact that the nugs were more golden than green.

It took a movie of the same name for me to realize what I was smoking so many years before. The tropical flavor wasn’t an unknown. I’d be able to enjoy it again.

So yeah, looks like I got a pineapple project this summer.

Quick update for day 42. Not much happening but I did pick up a new scope so since it’s Trichome Tuesday I thought I’d test it out.

If you’re interested, it’s an Andonstar AD246S-M and it takes pretty nice photos, but you have to mess around in the settings a bit to get it to take them at optimum resolution.

This photo was taken using the smallest of the three lenses…magnification of 18-720x. It works for up-close views (12mm-320mm working distance). It works pretty good and you can definitely see when skies are partly to mostly cloudy.

Same here, and you can see an amber sunset in a few of these.

The next few were shot with the finest lens of the bunch (1800-2040x), and that one had to be roughly 5mm away from the subject to view (nope, not going to take handheld shots, it’s chopped and snipped or nothing).

And these were the ones I really liked…

And finally, I call this one Ascension, LOL.

One more unrelated update while the plants are in the final approach…

So I mentioned upthread about popping TGs flavor pack beans and I’ve got a scent update and early smoke report on one of the packs in the bunch, though no photos at the moment aside from the (empty) pack that I managed to find in my whatnot (lol) drawer.

Epiphany x Dansbud Gorilla Bubble

I did these along with JWOWW with the intention of making seeds, but haven’t had a chance to really document anything about them. I dig the grape phenotypes and to be perfectly honest I thought the Epiphany strain in on the label was an earlier strain (Myriad) from Gage Green Group that I did a year or three ago that was heavy on the grape terps.

This batch of seeds seems to fall into one of two phenotypes: either a grapeish scent or a more general spicy lemon, triangle-kushy scent. One of the plants in flower got accidentally sat on (by me, as I bent down to look at another plant–DOH), and I have an early report on the casualties…

This one was a tall, lanky plant that really showed the spicy lemon scents. When I harvest I typically do a wet trim and then throw all of the undersized buds and sugar leaves into a dehydrator for cannabutter, and so after the trim was dried I loaded up some of the smaller buds and threw them in the Volcano. The spicy lemon survived the dehydrator and flavor mirrored the scent–I got heavy lemon kush taste through the vape that mimiced the taste through a one-hitter or bowl…definitely a spicy flavor and the effects mirrored the kushy strains I’ve had before. Not exactly couchlock, but it will take you a few moments to remember what anyone was saying two seconds earlier.

I’m looking forward to trying the others. All three smell heavily of fruity grape and the scent is really nice. To bad they’re so short Hahah…what was I talking about again?

I’ll post photos of all plants this weekend when I have time to do a proper update.

Caryophyllene. Based on my extensive five minute reading, this is the peppery, spicy flavor that figures heavily in the spicy lemon phenotype.

…as an aside I do not like this terpine. I think it tastes like rancid one-hitters.

Clean your gear regularly, folks!

Quick update and day 47 pics.

They have all pretty much stopped overall growth and started packing on the bud size. The first thing that I noticed is the size uniformity of all five of the plants. With the exception of the runt of the litter, all are topping out at 28" with an overall footprint of 18"-20".

I’m using the International Bureau of Weights and Measures “Banana” standard. All pictures have an ordinary banana for scale. Below is the banana, with a banana for scale.

The mature one is coming along nicely and should be ready in two weeks or so.

The small plant only topped out at about 26". But she’s made up for it with the alternating nodes.

The pollinated mother is getting huge…

The smells are a bit more laid back, though still have a skunky, gassy old-school odor shining through. Tough to place it, actually.

Is that banana art for sale? :grinning:Nice plants and good to have another tricome traveler about.

JWoah…

Everything about this strain is smooth but the effects. This weed hits like a hammer. One-hit chit, seriously. I’ve been smoking all day long and each time I just need to take one hit and wait a little bit. That hitter gets forgotten every time. And no crash so far as long as I keep it sensible like that.

The flavor? On exhale I get a hint of hash. That’s it. The flavor is soooo mild I struggle with how to even classify it. It doesn’t seem to be too harsh on the lungs so far, either. But don’t mess around with big hits.

:christmas_tree:

I’m definitely saving this for special occasions. Like Christmas…and Fridays.

And the rest of the week too.

Let’s back up a bit and talk about the harvest. I did the mature plant early with the intention of letting the others go as long as I could. Right now the remaining three have about a week or two left, but the leaves are getting to that yellow that makes you think it’s time, so I don’t know. I did a trichome check and most were either totally cloudy or half-cloudy/half-clear. Most amber trichs were the result of damage. I’m going to try to get the rest total milky before pulling them.

Here’s a photo of the main cola. Wet weight of it was almost two ounces.

All total, I got eight ounces wet cut (not including trim). The dry yield was just over fifty grams of trimmed bud and trim (not pictured):

Not the greatest yield in terms of overall numbers but once you consider the compact size of each plant it really becomes exceptional. I grew these in “light” three gallon cloth pots and put them into flower six weeks after germination.

The buds are super-compact and heavy. They remind me of the old skunk bud that would turn into resin marbles in the baggie if you carried it in your pocket too long.

The main cola clocks in at about 6 1/2 grams:

Every once in a while I get a hint of skunk, but as I said before right now the taste is so smooth as to be non-existent. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens over the next month or so.

Jesus this is some good weed.

Hey welcome to OG. Great first couple of posts!

Today the remaining plants came down.

A few final thoughts. First, the flavor has been evolving and starting to develop. Now I’m getting hints of lemon and vanilla, but still no real “spandex lung” or coughing jags as long as I don’t overdo it.

I’m still forgetting shit after the first hit, though I’m getting better at remembering. My tolerance is improving, but still limited to the first one-hitter.

My one-hitter is a bit larger than most. I’m using a old and battered SilverStick (my fave) when I’m not vaping off my Volcano. The bowl is equal to about two regular-sized hitters and one packed hitter is usually enough to do me in with this; with other strains it takes at least two because I’m so damn polluted, LOL.

Harvesting this strain has been an absolute breeze. Every branch has a High-Times-centerfold cola, with mostly bud with very little leaf mass mixed in. Trimming is reminiscent of giving a teddy-bear a haircut–just get the scissors close and keep snipping until it looks normal again (parents should know exactly what I’m talking about haha, were you able to get all the gum off?)

For you amateur horti-freaking-culturists…

I think this strain would be a worthy add to your collection. The smoothness seems like it would compliment everything you pair it with, particularly citrusy sativa-leaners. I’m already planning a couple of future grows and have rushed a couple of seeds from mama into germination.

I don’t have any pictures this time around but I will post updated dry weights in a week or so when they are ready to go in the jar.

Cheers! Stay crispy my friends!

Fine looking grow and thanks for your harvest and smoke report.
Looking forward to see the dry photos. :+1:

One thing to add, even the mangled post-seeded buds from the mother plant is–not only smokeable–but better than high-grade brickweed.

Jeez, it’s going to take me at least two weeks to smoke my way through those buds alone.

Awesome report man, sounds like fantastic bud! So was the initial taste just not very distinct or does it just have no taste at all? I have some of these seeds and I love strong weed so can’t wait to grow it!
Cheers

Is that the Jwoww bro?

Holy smokes! The OGG hisself.

Man it’s an honor to have you in the thread! Yeah, this is JWoww. I have to say this has been a really fun grow and the reward has been…huge.

But you have to help me on the flavor, man. This plant has been sooo smooth that I’m really struggling with how to place it. It’s been almost flavorless to me, but has given something up here and there. I detected some lemon when I ripped apart mama’s buds, and there seems to be more than a little vanilla on the exhale at times. Some say the strain “The White” is flavorless, but I always seemed to get tangerine in the vaporizer (though through the hitter it was close to neutral). But this–this is so mild I’d be tempted to say it more neutral. I can’t wait until the other three have dried. Those seemed to be more vanilla-smelling when I put the popcorn in a dehydrator.

Do you have any plans to work with this strain more? Like I said upthread it seems like this would pair well with pretty much everything. I have a feminized Durban poison in the tent that I’ve been looking for a father for. You can bet that I’m going to try this haha. And I still have some Gorilla Waves. Speaking of which, I just saw on GLG that you have a new drop of Sowah Grapefruit. Payday can’t come soon enough! Guess it’s time to restock on a few things LOL.

Urgh…if you held a gun to my head I’d say not very distinct. Let me get back to you when the rest have dried.

Final weight counts are in (the jars):

Doesn’t seem like much once it’s in the jars, but you are looking at just over five ounces of JWoww in the left two jars and about an ounce and a half of the Epiphany x Dan’s Bud cross from the two shorties that made it to harvest. The JWoww average per plant held true to the remaining harvest; if you figure the smaller of the three as being closer to an ounce dry then the remaining two were around two ounces each–verrrrry verrrrry good for plants that topped out at 28".

Update on the Epiphany…now that it’s had time to mellow a bit I absolutely taste Earl Grey tea when I smoke it through the hitter. A lot. Ironic considering the effects are exactly opposite, LOL. I don’t usually like the peppery stuff but now that it’s had time to age this bud is really good. However…it does cause me to seek out and occupy the couch. So maybe beware of this stuff before tea time.

The JWoww hasn’t changed much, still faint lemony tastes if anything. Still wayyy smooth through the hitter, joint, or whatever. And bottom line?

Everyone who tried it wants some.
