Ice/bubble hash makers

Someone please explain to me the correct order of the micron bags.

Ive watched mr.canucks grow- bubble hash tutorial and a few others…

Im not using the cool washing machine. Just a 5 gallon bucket and the amazon micron bags.

Why is “220” considered the work bag?
Why is the smallest number the finest screen?

A “work bag” is the bag that keeps the plant material separate from the hash. You then go from largest to smallest because they separate out the different microns that way. So 220 keeps the biomass from the hash, and allows everything else to pass through. Then the 160 traps everything between 220-160, then the 120 traps everything between 160-120, etc. I didn’t read the bag numbers in the photo but that’s how it works.

Your 120-73 is going to be the sweet spot. 73-45 is generally considered “food grade” as in best used for edibles.

Exactly as stated above…but work in just a bucket with ice and plant materiel then pour through your bags…do not mix in the mesh bag…have a bucket with holes in to drain and put that in another bucket or bin etc so the water drains off and through right away. Do not mix your plant material and ice in mesh bag,
too much stuff passes through from rubbing on the mesh…bubblebagdude has tutorials on YouTube for this stuff.

Great advice… I will add don’t bother with the 25 screen it will take forever to drain water thru and there is nothing worth while in that size screen anyway. You don’t need the 220 screen if your running in a work bag they are 220. If you’re mixing without a work bag use the 220 screen to remove most plant matter. It makes the process a lot easier if you remove some of these extra screens that just create more work and aren’t really useful. Another tip cut some buckets in half and use the bottomless half’s to hold each size bag in place and stack on top of each other in correct numbers. Lowest numbers, bottom of the stack highest numbers top of the stack. It’s easier to work with each bag if they’re lined with the half buckets it’ll only takes one time to figure out how much extra work it is without them….

Edit - Don’t skip the pre soak time before mixing. Some do as little as 5 minutes some do 45 min soak before mixing. Has a lot to do with how dense your material is.

Those bucket dividers are great, 100%

The number on the bag is the size of the holes in micrometers. When you measure the trichome caps, that tells you which trichomes will wind up in which bag(s). I only go with the 220 and the 90. I save the 73 in a candy jar for my friends. I used to just toss it down the drain. Make sure to use fresh frozen buds.

How do you measure a trichromes cap?

It’s an interesting thing where I put a slide with micrometer divisions under the microscope. You draw a line between the divider and then the computer program knows how many pixels represent a micrometer.
Once you get the trichomes up on the screen, you draw a line across the cap, and it tells you the distance in micrometers.

Like this, I generate a hash engineering diagram.

Oh that’s fucking fancy. So you need an actual pc for this? Mathmatical genius. So does that mean I could send you a photo of my trichromes and you could measure them?

I can’t measure someone else’s image because their sensor isn’t calibrated with the micrometer divider. Yes, the entire system is a microscope, digital camera, and computer. The micrometer calibration slide came with the camera.

There’s a pic of the calibration slide.

Oh damn. Well worth the shot lol.

Do you have a cut orange Lowes bucket for each of the micron bags?

Yes, I put a half bucket liner in each screen size… it just makes the process a lot easier. Cheers @MassMedicinals

So you use 3 bags?
220, 90, 73
Im new at this :slightly_smiling_face:
What lands in the 73 is the 90 that your after?

I use the 90 and 220, but lately I’ve been pouring the remnants through the 73 for my friends. It’s sub standard and I would only recommend keeping the 90. The 73 is usually just sessile trichomes, while the 90 is made from capitate ones. In the hash engineering diagram, you can see how it’s all going to come out in the wash.

What do we do with ambient water outside of the bags???

I water my outside plants with the water. Not great for the drains or septic tanks ect. Best to not use your plumbing to dispose of wash water. Cheers @MerryWanna0303
