If you like pina coladas and getting high in the shade, check out the pineapple grow log and come with me to escape

Top 'o the bud to ya!

I’m back from vacation, recharged and ready to hit the ground running! In my previous grow log I mentioned that back in the early 2000’s I think (dates are as hazy as my memory) I had become captivated by what I now assume to be the Pineapple Express strain. To be honest the high was kinda “meh” in that I could smoke it all day long and not pass out or get too high.

But the flavor? The flavor hooked me instantly. Like I said the high wasn’t anything special–I could do five or six hitters in a row. But I WANTED to do those five or six hitters and then continue go on down the line until I passed out at eleventeen or so. To be honest it was usually the booze that did me in back in those days but I assure you–I WENT DOWN SMOKING. Heh.

So for this round I decided to go for the tropics and do some pineapple. But not just one strain. This time around I’m going to try to document two strains from vegetation through flower.

In addition, I want to breed the best of the lot from the two strains and see what I come up with. That will be covered in this grow log as well, so it could get a little drawn out. But hey, there will be lotsa pictures.

All documented in glorious lossy jpeg.

The two strains I chose are Humboldt CSI’s Pineapple S1 and Copa Genetics Ancient Pineapple.

It should be noted that I am an indoor grower and I did see the following regarding Copa’s selection:

My response?

Surely this will not end badly…like, landrace sativa badly…right?

Welp, I guess we’re going to find out. I have a few odds and ends that I’m waiting to finish off, and once those are done in a couple of days I’ll make some selections from the two strains that are mature enough to start flowering and post some pics.

So if you’re ready, mix up a boat drink and put on Hawaiian Tropic! We could be here a while.

Im a true fan of Pineapple ever since I found a C99 pineapple pheno. Loved the taste… and the buzz. Will definitely be following along. May the Ganja Gods watch over your project.

Hey folks! Sorry about the lack of posts. I’ve been dealing with a serious nute deficiency on all my plants and worst of all, it’s totally my fault.

I’m trying to do the whole organic thing and I’ve got a couple of tubs of dirt in rotation. I eat a lot of salads, fruits, etc, as well as cooking with fresh herbs. Anything I don’t dry goes into the dirt, including my coffee grounds.

(Memo: weed LOVES leftover french press dreck. More on this in a bit. Pass it around)

So here’s where I screwed up. I got mixed up on what was good soil and what needed regeneration. Probably a common mistake, but it really rustled my jimmies as the saying goes. About two weeks after repotting the seedlings, all my plants (AND I MEAN ALL) looked like they were ready to go join the choir invisible…they were fast becoming ex-parrots (LOL). Every leaf showed signs of yellowing and every one of the Pineapple S1s were more yellow than green. Those ones are nute hounds for sure when they get into veg.

So I had to act fast. I ended up watering all of the worst of the worst with straight up french-press castoffs. Most responded within a day or so (thank you coffee!!!) and even the worst of the lot were looking better after a week. Now most of the plants are at worst spotting yellow around the leaf edges but that’s it:

Good news is that the problems didn’t affect my three keeper females. My favorite of the lot is one of the Pineapple S1s. She started off strong and started throwing pinner sativa leaves almost immediately. She’s mother plant #1:

Number 2 is one of the Ancient Pineapple females that I’m growing out. I’m not going to pollinate her–I want to smoke her.

And finally #3. This is another Pineapple S1. Her leaves weren’t as thin as mama #1 so I think this one is going to be a smoker too. I have a couple more in recovery in the veg tent so I will hopefully be able to confirm that this is just another expression of the plant’s main phenotypes.

So that’s it for now. I’ll see if I can’t get a picture or two of the carnage in the vegetation chamber tomorrow. Long story short it’s a couple of chemdogs and the other pineapple s1s and APs.

One thing I will add as I button this post up is that coffee grounds can be a miracle cure.

…as every office drone tuning in goes “no shit.”

Hey folks! Wish I had a better update for you but real life and real jobs often put a kink in our plans. I’m relocating to one of our satellite office locations and need to put this log on hold for a while. I’ve already started packing up the house and took the tents down yesterday. Good news is I’m going to be about ten minutes away from a couple of nice dispensaries so getting my garden back up and running won’t be too painful. And I still have seeds of both strains so–give or take a couple of months–I’ll be updating this log again.

So take care!
