Hello everyone, so I am making this post and hopes that somebody has an old carbon filter that they no longer need that they would be willing to donate or sell for very cheap as I don’t have much money at the moment. I have a room that is about 6x10x 8. The smell is out of control in front of my house all the way to my street LOL well please let me know if anybody can help out my situation any. Thank you
If you have a fan you can make a carbon filter probably pretty cheap.
Used carbon filter probably won’t do you much good… Once they’re used up they don’t absorb anything else.
There are some cheaper carbon filters on the market check Amazon and eBay for whatever size exhaust you’re using. They won’t last long, but it might get you through the last however many weeks you need.
You can get a pretty strong ozone generator for about 40 bucks, BUT you can only use it on your exhaust vent, and you need to have a long run for the mix with the air, you also want it be always downwind where it exits the duct.
Or you can always get those buckets of smelly gel… Not the cheapest option in my opinion with how often you got to replace them but it’s a short-term solution for some
Tell me what youre growing right now please
I would advise to buy a new one. A used one is likely spent.
And refilling carbon is a PITA I don’t do it anymore.
I just typed in DYI carbon filter/for smell.
Lots of DYI ways, I started off, making them.
Since I do not what tools you have, I can offer any suggestions.
They are REAL simple once you look into them.
Amazon.com: CFS – Pack of 1, Universal Cut-To-Fit Carbon Activated Pre-Filter Pads for Air Purifiers, Air Cleaners – Fresh & Filtered Air for Indoor – Charcoal Air Filter Sheet – 15-3/4" x 48" – Black : Home & Kitchen zip tied or taped to any fans you have. Put them directly outside of your tent. I think you can buy these in Walmart and home Depot too, they sell them as fish tank filters
Turn off your tent exhaust for most of the day, assuming you have a fan inside and a humidity temp meter. If your tent can keep good vpd with no exhaust on, leave it off for a bit.
You can probably find a brand new one on social media fairly close to you and inexpensive these days… however, if you cannot, these are the cheapest options with good reviews… Free shipping if your Amazon member.
I bought my carbon filters off temu, $25 for a 4 inch. Works great
That said, fuck temu. But it is by far the cheapest and shipped in like 5 days from the US
I have not had high success with that operation either hard for me to recommend… Cheers @Rgaaana
When i got back into growing, I was looking to diy everything, carbon filters are cheaper to buy new, than diy now days.
Same, 1/5 things I bought was a scam. But I got a refund and my stuff and uninstalled that shit. Virtual credit cards make sketchy sites a little safer
I think tariffs make the China route expensive currently and the shipping on a used carbon filter would probably be more than a new one off of Amazon.
Nah. They ship from us warehouse. I paid 22 shipped for my 4 inch carbon filters. Arrived 4 days later. They look exactly like every in other one I’ve seen on here, and filter smell
If you are still in a pinch, get yourself down to your local aquatics store and buy yourself some activated charcoal from there.
You can actually drill out the rivets from the carbon filter you have, change the carbon, and replace the rivets with screws.
Just did this before my current grow and it works a treat ![]()

@Indicana_Jones well it won’t let me upload pic but I have a good bit goin at once. Purple kush, oh kush, jelly donutz, snow cone, Frankenstein, green gelato, granny candy is all going in there right now and that is just that room so it is extremely smelly, like on a whole nother level
I do not have a carbon filter, never did. I was told that I can get some carbon and build my own filter with a bucket
Sure can. Buy fish filter carbon granules from A pet store.
Cut a bunch of holes in a 5 gallon bucket. Line the bucket with a thin blanket or something to hold the carbon. Pour in the carbon. Stick a fan on top of the bucket and it should push air through filtering it.
Carbon works best with air being pulled through it, but that’s harder to make and push works okay
I bought some carbon filter replacement (“Cut-to-Fit Carbon Pad 16 x 48 inches for Air Filter Charcoal Sheet fits Range Hoods Furnace Filters removes Odor VOC”), and a strip of metal grate from Lowes, made for keeping crap from accumulating in gutters. I’ve got it doubled up in the portion attached to the inside of my fan’s decorative cover (with gaffer’s tape sealing all edges), and two layers combined measures a little less than an inch. I fit another doubled up layer inside the fan’s housing, pressed up against the grate and held in place when the decorative cover is re-installed.
@MrGreenJeans yes I just went to Lowe’s last week and bought one of the pre-filter strips but I don’t notice any difference from it, if anything it is making it worse with the smell it is so loud when I walk out my house but I am drying right now also so I know that’s making it worse but yeah the free filters doesn’t seem to help me at all
