Impromptu breeding and other degeneracies

My goodness.

Yeeehaw.

About 220 of them. I give them 3 weeks and start kicking them off the freedom train by the dozens :slightly_smiling_face:

Aiming for 50 or less. Ideally 30.

Same with cheese.

Its looking like im popping c99bx1 or c99 x orange next.

Then im set for keepers and ill start dialing and tossing keepers.

Then i share cuts and retire
Lol

I love C99. The Pineapple pheno was a favorite. Brings back memories.

C99 can be very good.

Theres a strange correlation between chocolate and catpiss im seeing and somehow pineapple c99 fits in there.

Someone on another site just stuck some C99 seeds in the mail for me.
They are from a reproduction run.
Very excited.

Do you happen to know from which/whos stock?

Mine are from mosca c99bx1.

I ran the kepeer from the original pop in vert 5lights 4 trees setup and yeild wasnt there at all. But smoke was legit

I had Mosca also. Still have seeds I made about 20 years ago. Doubt they hatch.

“Pop them if you got them” is what I say. Theres stuff i dont even like that i refresh for old times sake. Part of the hobby i guess hah

I designed an entire hydroponic system so I don’t have to water even ONE plant by hand. I admire your ambition and insanity passion to take on these projects!

70 non-trash plants out of 700 sounds a little optimistic. I guess it also depends on what is considered trash. If looking for absolute keepers I’d expect you’d keep MAYBE 5 if all 700 are from the same stock. If not just a top 3.

Sooooo…

I accidentally pollinated the whole neighborhood with melon hp pollen. Originally intended to only hit the melon and skunk. Also means the plants i had already pollinated are contaminated and the seeds basically unusable in a breeding program.

Melon hp crosses. Check.

That’s a bummer about the contaminated seed run. I figure that would be why I could never run a breeding program. I will have the lot open pollinated every time.

I mostly go the rack route with lines ive already grown and bulked. Consider this a pre screening where i pull a certain phenotype im interested in from the bulk.

Usually ill keep between 5% and 10% depending on numbers and do a seed run with wanted type. Call it base stock. Then i grow out the f2s and look for outliers/keepers/extremes. Then i trial those under hps and outdoors.

With the lifesavers for exemple, i bulked one pack then grew 300 f2s. From the f2s i kept a dozen “tropical” plants from the bulk of mostly grapes or lemons. I grew those the following year outdoors and kept one plant i call melon lifesaver. Since im bad at keeping cuts long term, i either outcross to another cut or make s1.
In this case a g13hp cut. All this to have a potential parent for a melon hp x skunk line, which will itself go through this process.

Same with skunks, ssk, and a bunch of others.

Rolling thunder.

Im happy with a keeper here and there

When you grew out the 300 some odd lifesavers how typical was the tropical type smell on them and did it swing the other directions also to a like a pungent rotten fruit smell?

Around 10% of f2s were what i call tropical, a few blueberries and a few lemon with an attitude, which i assume is from the jacks cleaner side.

A lot of candied fruits throughout with grape being very dominant but nothing in the way of rotten fruit.

A few things are happening…

The number of skunks i popped without finding much in the way of progress toward an ideal is beyond probability. I can only look inward and admit that i cant grow for shit.

The smell at 6-10 nodes from the few that turned into skunk on a previous run is etched in my mind, and while some had that early on this round, clearly i can not satisfy their needs by winging it.

I need a ph meter and i need proper nutrients for one. Locally, to my despair, it seems like it would be easier to source a 2 headed woman than it is finding high quality nutrients.

Secondo, i think im flipping too early or flipping before plants have time to build some momentum. On the good run, i vegged for 2 months or so, topping and bushing them out etc.

As frustrating as it is, i seem to lack a fundamental understanding of plant processes and chemistry. Like a lot of things the solution is most likely very simple, or at least once the solution is known it is but evident, for i had bummy nutrients and still produced nobility - by accident mind you…

First round

A few Chemd x 88g13hp

Ssk12 x 88g13hp is growing cat tongues apparently :man_shrugging:

Now you going to smoke a hitter of each one after it’s all said and done?

Of course!

Normally I’d vet each plant seedless, test smoke as soon as its dry, again at 1 month cure, once more at 3 months after I harvest the incross to gage shelf life.

All the lines im using this round are already inbred at least 2 gens. Given my familiarity with the lines, the f1s should be somewhat predictable so i went ahead and skipped a couple steps hah.

Im speed running breeding :joy:

Theres a possibility i get lucky and all works fine, or, my selection could miss the mark completely and in that case i just start over and we’ll get to learn something and laugh about my ordeal in a few months lol
