I’m experiencing my very first grow with 3 bulk plants that are supposedly an Amnesia strain.
I’m just finishing the 5th week of flower, and the anxiety is starting to hit hard — I really want to have a taste of these girls.
So I was wondering, in which week would it be okay to cut just a small bud for an experimental taste of what to expect from the upcoming harvest?
Just to give you a small idea, I’ve never experienced anything better than pressed weed, because that’s what’s easiest to find here on the black market in Brazil.
After 15 years, I finally decided to start growing my own medicine.
I’m thinking about making the first cut in the next 3 or 4 days.
I would wait to at least week 7 to get a decent taste of whats to come.
its gonna have a good amount chlorophyll thats going to distort the flavor a good bit.
Look up dankmaster quick dry method in the search for a good test nugget drying method
5 weeks? If you take it now it will just give you a headache. When I first started growing I did this and always regretted it later. You have to give the plant time to develop the chemicals on its own time, not yours. You will need another 4-7 weeks of growing and then a week of drying and 3 weeks of curing before it is really acceptable. That bud you take now won’t do shit and you’ll be wasting potential yield as it will get significantly larger over time.
If I’m doing maintenance on like week 5 or 6 and accidentally break off a decent nug, I’ll often dry it to smoke it. Sometimes closer to week 7-8 I might snap off a lower bud to check things out
A haze at 5 weeks doesnt sound too nice tbh you got any pics?
A week or two before the harvest is really the earliest ill go. Unless i gotta remove a bud for some reason or accidentally break one off. Not really worth it unless you really need smoke. Wont taste very good, you might get a rough idea of the effects if its close.
Ill usually start smoking within a week after drying. If you dry it nicely, it should be tasty and smooth. Slightly more potent the fresher it is.
At the moment, one of the top buds looks like this. I took into consideration everything you guys recommended, so I’ll wait at least until week 7 to make the first cut.
Thank you haha I’m a big proponent of properly drying and curing flower…of course if you’re slam out go ahead and burn through quick dried bud but the difference is night and day. Patience is important with growing cannabis bc of all the time energy and resources one puts into the plant.
For me it is all about trichome color.
When all clear heads, NOPE not yet.
When clear and cloudy heads are about the same, it’s still to early but if you need to, that would be your call.
For me, NOPE, not yet.
When heads are cloudy, with NO amber/red heads, good time to sample.
Once a couple of red heads, and almost all cloudy, I chop them.
I will sample off the stalk on occasion, but I’ve been blessed with good harvest amounts, so I’ll wait a minimum of 3-4 weeks in glass.
Much of what I have is 10- 12 months cured.
Everybody has their twist, just my way.
Best of luck in your endeavors!!

At the end when it’s dry and at least cured a bit anything before that isn’t gonna be worth it yer just wasting good bud imo sure ages ago when I first started out sure I would take the odd bit here n there but it never does it justice so I don’t waste my time with it anymore so it is best to wait you will enjoy it more if you do I get it if your stuck or something though and can’t get weed for whatever reason needs must and that I just personally hate smoking early bud I like mine ripe
Anything sooner then a week or two max before harvest is a waste of time , when harvest will be can be hard to nail down perfect time wise as every strain finishes at a slightly different pace. Do you have a 8 week variety or a 12 , some sativas go as long as 24weeks but most people don’t grow those types.
Almost every first time grower I’ve seen has done one of two things , convince themselves it is done way earlier then it is robbing them selves of a whole bunch of work and time for crappy leafy tasting mids at best , this often happens at first site of any orange hairs or when the fear of getting robbed starts to set in.
Or the second thing is fear of it being premature or thinking longer is better and letting it stay out to long resulting in brown old tasting flower once dry for a short period of time.
Harvest and drying is a very critical portion of growing good cannabis.
Waiting sucks but investing all that time to screw things up in the final stretch is heartbreaking.
