Individuality and effects and strains - O MY

MMJ patient with strain questions. Oh boy do I have strain questions.

I know THC tolerance varies enormously, even within individuals. (Heck, I reset my tolerance weekly).

My MMJ options are limited. The product I take is simply called “Blue” and is produced by a company called Matter. The only info I can find about this product is the THC:CBD ratio is 20:1 (one dose contains 9.5mg THC and 0.5mg CBD) and the strain is “JH1” which I think is Jack Herer 1.

I listened to legendary cannabis grower Kevin Jodrey describe what he sees as the four main categories of cannabis.

My questions:

How do you explore the diversity of effects - is there any logical or typical progression? Or do folks generally try try try and go back to strains they particularly like?

Is one man’s bliss another man’s hell on earth? Can a strain that makes one person feel energized make another feel paranoid?

Do you have different favorite strains for different contexts? Like… “camping under the star” vs “gotta get these chores done.”

Finally, for those of us who are seeking therapeutic benefits, particularly mental health benefits, I would love to hear about how you find medical strains (cultivars) that work for you. Does anyone literally breed their own medicine? Is the answer DUH!?

Ok. Enough of me. Please pick whatever question resonates and I’d love your thoughts.

There is going to work weed.
There is sitting on the couch weed.

What you like is a matter of taste.
What you bring to the experience is what you take away from it too.

Personally my favourite is an aged black hash because it’s sleepy and more often than not I need to calm down.

All the best

It’s all an individual thing. People’s bodies and receptors vary. Find some reccomendations for what you are looking for and start there. Than branch out. Only you can pick the right cannabis for you.

Mindset and setting play as much a roll in the experience as cannabinoids.

When I first got my medical card I did try and try until I found something I liked. Problem was, those weren’t always available. I found seeds of the varieties I liked and grew them myself.

Thank you. This makes abundant sense.

What benefits do you seek? This is a broad question.

Generally speaking… space to process trauma.

Letting my guard down. Crying out the feels. Knowing I’m on a better path, that I’m taking such better care of myself. I’m doing the important work now, prioritizing what really matters which is being kind to myself and letting myself heal.

It’s amazing… I struggled for so many years churning in place… I was in talk therapy, I read books, CBD oil…then my favorite CBD oil company produced a delta 8 THC product… I tried it. It did nothing. It went to the back of the fridge. I try it again a few months later and every day was the best day of my life every time I dosed.

At one point I felt such deep relief I thought, “Ohhhhh I’m dead! Obviously! I have clearly died. You don’t have the best day of your life day after day for a week. I’ve been on this planet for many decades… This isn’t normal happy… So this is heaven. It looks exactly like Williamsburg, Brooklyn!”

Then I learned how to reset tolerance (Sulak Method) and branched into dispensary MMJ (the aforementioned “blue” tincture).

That’s when the deep healing began. It wasn’t just effervescence and joy and lightness of being and renewal…

It was me telling me, “I’ve got you and I ain’t letting go. You are SAFE.”

This is more valuable than weed.

I can’t say what would work for you but what works for me is a nice mellow hash. I like a racy buzz too but for me that’s more recreation.

On that nice mellow hash (which doesn’t sound like a dispensary item if I recall correctly… ) do you make it?

I read The Economist’s obit for Frenchy Cannoli and went down a fun rabbit hole. I didn’t know hash was cannabis. I thought hash was hash.

I do make black hash.

There are many hashes available at dispensaries around here. But as far as quality I couldn’t say.

But black hash over dabs for me. Totally different experience.

Most of what I know about making hash making I learned from Frenchy Cannoli.

Wow! Really!? Incredible! Did you take classes with him?

I want to make hash to eat!!

No man from watching his YouTube vids :joy:

It’s a fairly simple process that can be made as complicated as you like. I skew simple.

You can make edibles with hash and eat it but you better get the dosage right.

Haha well you never know! I know he taught classes. What a fascinating person. His whole terroir idea for cannabis made so much sense. I hope it comes to fruition. I know Kevin Jodrey talks up this idea. But my god it’s better than land terroir… as growers we are the terroir. We can find the right cultivars and grow techniques and discover and refine the making processes… for the landscape of our minds. Such potential…!

I haven’t smoked in over 20 years, never vaped. Eating cannabis works well for me. And is convenient. I’m a mom with kids still at home.

And now your telling me I can make hash?

I’m so happy to see it works so well for you too! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I wish like hell I felt like this about cannabis now… for me it’s just relax mode now that I’m dad mode. I don’t like to chief it up without being able to be in full relax mode or creativity mode. Just personal preference I guess but damn it I want to be happy while lifted and not working and doing things I don’t want to be doing haha

If you’re going to bake with hash don’t use too much chocolate. The hash flavour is delicious and mixes with the vanilla or whatever but it’s very tasty.

If you’re just getting started I’d suggest butter and herb and the math is something like (potency of herb X amount of herb)/dosage

You sure can. I made this today. It took all day.

Sativa = Energetic / Indica = Sleepy Sluggish

When decarbing, these effects can be completely switched.

Even time of harvest has become less important as you can adjust the decarb time accordingly.

You can experiment with decarbing several small batches for different lengths of time to find out what works best for you.

Early harvest / too energetic? You want it more sedative and mellow? No problem!
Decarb at 100 degrees Celsius for 3 hours.

You have a heavy indica that’s knocking you out too much when decarbed for 3 hours?
Decarb next batch at 100 degrees Celsius for 2 hours instead.

My sweet spot is currently 2 hrs and 22 minutes. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Eating cannabis gives you so much more flexibility.
Provided edibles work for you at all, ofcourse.
