Introduce Yourself @OG (Part 1)

This is typical growth! :+1: :sunglasses:

I think it is partly the ‘pay-forward philosophy’.
That, and Joe & the other moderators are great at keeping the ‘drama’ at bay… It makes for a very positive and generous culture here.

Cheers

I go by TheCultiv8tist im from the United States. Known about OG for several years now but never signed up. Lived in the shadows for many years and after a brief hiatus while family building I realized how much I missed growing so I’m making my comeback. Super passionate about anything I attach my name to so this is my craft. Stay tuned as I will be posting hopefully pretty regularly. Nice to meet each of you now lets get this world OVERGROWN!!

Welcome! This is a great place. Anything you need help with, there will be numerous experts here to help. My biggest shock here has been the depth of knowledge and experience here.

Greetings Growmies! I am Banquo, aka Dr. Chester Spingroon. I live in the Great Lakes region of the midwest, just north of the 45th parallel. We get very cold winters, and short mild summers. I’m new to collecting and growing, but I’ve helped close friends with their medicinal grows in the past. Mostly outdoor, and always soil when indoors, and always photoperiods.

A little about my current grow. I decided to run autoflowers. They appeal to me in many ways, to many to list here, but mostly because they have such a short cycle (typically) which is ideal for outdoor growing in this area. I plan to build a decent sized and fully powered greenhouse, but that’s ages away. For now I’ll be growing in tents, maybe one day kitting out a spare room as well. Again, I’m just starting and these are long term goals. I will probably stick with autos until I have a reason not to. I know they don’t get much love, still, but things are changing…

What I’m currently growing is, obviously, an autoflower strain. It’s called “Alien Moonrocks” and the breeder is Twisted Tree Autoflowers out of Michigan. Michigan is really on a come-up lately, huh? I won’t sing praises to TTA in this post, but I will say that my experience with them has been nothing less than stellar. They have a site. Look em up if you’re curious. The strain, yeah. It’s (Alien OG x BlackBerry Moonrocks) x TTA breeding male. Worked to F4 and seeds released as F5. If I understand the site wording correctly, there are 2 possible phenotypes, one being green leaves and mostly purple flowers, the other being purple leaves and flowers. I’d love to have both going at the same time, since I run 2 per cycle, but judging strictly from leaf shape, I’m guessing I’ve got the green/purple pheno. Not gonna complain, whatever it is. Today is the start of day 15 for them, when the lights come back on later this morning. I’ve got them in my 2x4 Gorilla Grow Tent (regular series, NOT the lite line) under a single Mars Hydro TSL-2000. Just increased the power to 100% yesterday at lights on. I had it at 50% power for the first 10 days, then bumped to 75% at day 11, then to 100% starting day 14. For those familiar with the “new” model TSL-2000, I am only adjusting the power level with the knob on the dimmer box, NOT by removing the white silicone plugs on top of each driver. Still not entirely sure how to use those controls, so if anyone can walk me through that part, I’d forever be in your debt!!! I’ve hung the light at the manufacturers recommended height, which I believe is 24” through veg and into flower, then I’ll keep it as close to 18” from the top of the canopy as possible. They still aren’t stretching, at all, and are about 6” or so tall now. I’ve probably stunted them due to overwatering. I’m having poor evaporation through the center of my 5 gal fabric pots. I added a 3rd fan this morning, under the table they’re on, blowing straight up. Hopefully there are enough holes in the table to allow some air up through the bottom of the pots. Live and learn, right? I started LST yesterday. I bent each about halfway to horizontal, maybe a little less than that. Their stalks feel too hard to just bend them over, so I wanted to do it over 2-3 days. I went back to push them a little further this morning, but stopped after I felt a tiny little “tick” inside one of the stalks. I freaked out and backed off immediately, and then used my phone to zoom in on the stalk and look for a break or even a kink, but didn’t see anything unusual, so I’m just gonna watch her today and see what’s up. Maybe I’ll just leave them as they are now and train the branches a little more instead. Again, live and learn.

I’m growing in an organic super soil, Michigan Made Mix or M3 as it’s called, that claims “water only”. I’m using RO water, since the bag says 6.5 pH water is ideal. I went with Bigfoot brand granular mycorrhizae. I’m not using any nutrients at all, don’t even have a bottle “just in case”. I’m gonna let nature do her thing. I think the soil will hold my girls through, but I am ready to top dress an extra 1-2” of the M3 towards the middle of flower, if necessary. I used some Happy Frog soil as a “buffer” for the seedlings. I added some rinsed perlite and a generous scoop of myco. I decided to “trust the process” and go with direct to soil germination. If a seed is gonna pop, it’s gonna pop whether I watch it happen in paper towel or it just does it’s thing in the dirt. Mother Nature doesn’t use paper towels. Plus, with direct to soil germ, there’s basically zero chance of me breaking or otherwise disturbing that little root, or the microscopic root hairs sticking off of it. :man_shrugging:t2:

I’ve done more hours of research preparing for this than I care to admit. I’ve spent nights keeping myself awake worrying about soil food webs, listened to podcasts about anything related to cultivation almost constantly for the past 3 months, registered on more forum sites than I can keep track of, and researched cannabis genetics and breeding related material until my brain was flip-flopping in my skull. And I’m still hungry for more. This is something I’ve wanted to do since forever, and by starting down this path I am realizing a lifelong goal and dream. I’m not looking to become a brand. I don’t want into the business. I don’t even want to charge people shipping costs for my (future) seed projects. This is totally and completely a passion project for me, and I’m lucky enough to finally be in a position in life to realize my dreams. It’s just going to take time and patience. I know it won’t be easy. Heck, I don’t think I’d want it to be easy. I want to work for it and feel validated when I succeed.

I do this all the time and then it drives me crazy. I lose track of what I have said and still want to say. Shoot. Oh well. I’ve probably said enough. If you wanna know something about projects I’ve got in planning, or the goals I’ve set for myself, or if you think I’m crazy and just need to let me know, whatever it is, just shoot me a message. I try to make the rounds, so to speak, and usually sign in once or twice a day to all these forum sites I’ve been registering on. I’d love to link up with another first timer, especially if you’re also growing autos! We can be best growmies!

Long time lurker first time poster. Soaknbeanz was out of GG4 RIL and then Tony’s GG4 group buy was the straw I missed that broke the camels back and I finally registered. On my 4th grow right now. Should be done Christmas and then maybe I’ll start my own grow log in the new year.

Welcome to OG Banquo, that’s one of the longest introductory posts I have seen in a while

Lots of organic living soil growers here, as well as auto specialists so you should feel right at home. Don’t be shy about asking questions, we are all here to learn and help.

I’d like to think I was a writer, in a past life, but knowing my luck it was probably more like I was born mute and have 2 lifetimes worth of stuff I wanna say!

Anyhow, thanks for making me feel welcomed, and I’m happy to be here. Can’t wait to dive into the auto “section” once I’ve got a bit more time to read. I’ve heard lots of good about this community, and I’ve just about had it with the atmosphere over on this one site that starts with the letter “R” and ends with “WTF WHY???” Seems like a pretty chill place to be, here on OG, with tons of knowledgeable people here for me to learn from. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to add a few drops to that pool of knowledge, one day.

Do people usually start a new thread for each grow or just one ongoing log for all their grows? Is there a preference or pros/cons you guys have run across?

The sober me is lazy and wants to just create one thread and chuck it all in there but the baked me gets all OCD and wants to organise shit and will hate not having them separated.

Hi to everyone, I’m a 58 year old learning everything I can about indoor growing. I grew back in the late 70’s without a whole lot of success. I have a great setup that I look forward to experimenting with. I want to give Thanks to all of you who make this possible. Look forward to growing good friends

Kind of up to you. If it’s a new project, new year, a batch of test seeds, a strain you want to highlite. Just keep in kind this is a busy place lol. Too many spectate posts makes it hard for you to find your own stuff at times. I always had to find my thread by going through my profile and pulling up just threads I’ve started instead of posts I’ve made.

Welcome aboard! There is certainly lots to learn, but start with the basics, and remeber, it’s just gardening and it’s a plant. If you can grow tomatoes you can grow decent-good bud. There are a lot of specialized fertilizers and lights, but those are not really necessary. Depend on your budget and your space, you can actually do a lot with fairly little nowadays.
