If 24/0 light is so harmful, why do so many photoperiod and auto growers use it successfully during early veg, with healthy growth and zero signs of stress?
I’m asking because I keep getting “attacked” for a telling other growers to go for it.
Apple Fritter feminised Kannabia.
Grown under 24 hrs a bit less than 2 weeks old from germination ![]()
It’s not harmful…
They’ll probably tell you it’s a DLI thing.
I do 16/8 but have no issue with 24/0
Thank you, thought so, been doing it this way as far as I can remember and never had any problems, it’s just this other site I’m on and they are driving me crazy on this lmfao
I only use 24/0 when cloning, to avoid mold. I dont think its harmful, but night period is also important
I’m just not a fan of it compared to 18/6 but not going to hurt your plants or anything. Always gotten better results with a short dark period whether it’s autos or just photos in veg. When I have used 24/0 in the past, usually dim the lights for the last couple of hours so it’s not getting blasted. Not sure about the exact science but even plants appreciate some down time. Like George Costanza, we don’t always want to have to be on for everyone haha
Usually have them 12 hours on 100% and the rest on 10% which is the minimum I think.
Using two sp3000 at 300 watt each in a 120cm X 60cm tent
What difference have you noticed? Just curious.
Well generally speaking my plants under 18/6 seem less stressed and easier to deal with but it kind of depends on your setup. When running autos under 24/0, they will wilt the last couple of hours basically telling me to turn the damn light off I need some sleep haha but dimming kind of solves that.
I agree 18/6 i get way better growth. I think its even been proven that plants cant use 24 hrs of light anyways. Dont quote me but i remember reading articles about it simewhere. But for clones id recommended 24 and seedlings to avoid over moisture.
Yes I did notice less deficiencies with other growers that do put them to sleep, but I also noticed that they are usually a “day or two” behind so I guess it’s a matter of perspective, or they just have slightly different habits that affect the results, but yes I have to agree it is less stressful, not enough for me to it any other way though but that’s just me I guess.
Thanks for your perspective growmie ![]()

No problem i think its all about what works for you personally. Do what works best for you. If 24 is giving you good results dont change it up. Good luck in your grow journey
As an example of this ive grown in soil for many years. Well i was always hearing how coco would be better…bigger yields, faster growth etc. Well l9ng story short i wasnt getting good results in my setup like everyone else. So after several cycles i said screw it and went back to soil.
As others have said 24 is good for clones and seedlings but I also recommend for regreening.
This wasn’t supposed to be a long conversation anyway, I was just frustrated by nay sayers on a different site that ignored my grows to push the 24 hrs of light is harmful narrative, the replies from you growmies were spot on and put the whole matter to rest for me, thank you very much for the inputs, highly appreciated and if you have more to add I’ll be glad to go through it and take into consideration ![]()

24 hr lighting provides a consistent environment in terms of temp and humidity. You’re less likely, or unlikely, to have any spikes or dips in temp or RH
This can be very beneficial if you’re growing somewhere that’s cold or humid.
Yeah it definitely helps in Germany to keep it steady in winter, perfect for Autoflowering grows especially ![]()

Only people Ive seen saying 24/0 is bad are rookies on Reddit lol.
Cannabis doesn’t need “night time” Ive kept moms alive for years and years on 24/0. Eventually, old cuts have to be on 24/0, or theyll start to flower and get all wonked out. And anything under 18/6 will make a lot of genetics want to go into flower after a year or 2 of vegging. DLI is the most important factor though. A great trick Ive used a bunch is run high power lights(or the sun) 12 hours or so to hit that DLI, then use super low power LEDs at 24/0 just to keep em vegging. I used to use a 4 watt bulb every 10x10 in greenies for keepin moms and teens happy. Jungle Boys popularized a similar method with work lights indoors. Run the 1000 HPS’s for 12 hours, then the highbar work lights the other 12. Saves a ton on power costs.
I always root clones 24/0 and veg also, unless i want to save some electricity. Harmful? Not seen anything weird.
Cannabis is a C3 dioecious plant it doesn’t need Darkness to photosynthesize. The plants will use a bit more water and feed a bit more thats it.You will shave 2 weeks off of a harvest with 24 hour light.Autos i dont inow so much about but photos not a issueThere isnt really any bad to it the people parroting this Grow midz
