Is it true that you can hang plants indefinitely if your dry space is dialed in?

Plants are coming down and i will be away fore a couple weeks.
Right now its a heat wave and my drying area sits at 66°f and 60%rh.
Wondering if they can hang liike that for a few weeks without degrading.

I don’t know about a few weeks but once my plants have stabilized at 60% I’m in no rush to take them down unless I get annoyed about filling the humidifier :+1:

Oxygen degrades terpenes and cannabinoids, so prolonged hanging will create more degradation. Which is why we seal up buds once dried/cured to maintain quality.

Practically it’s not going to ruin a crop if it’s left in the drying area longer as well as the ideal climate is maintained but for the highest quality it’s ideally dried/cured and then sealed up to protect it.

At least my dry spot is all plastic-y. That shiuld help.

A “dense-wet” OGK will not dry the same way that a “fluffy-skunky” JH bud. Sorry to play the douchebag again on generic stuffs but : a perfect mastering of the degradation start at the choice of the day you’re harvesting. And on top of this, more prevalent, the kind of flowers you’re harvesting.

To answer directly : very good stats for a slow drying of a couple of week. I wish i have this RH/temp actually to dry my stuff. Jah bless the SD, she stink and taste the hell even fast dried on CFLs bulbs ^^

Hard to tell density right now. 4 strains ive never grown before.
And it cant be helped because there is no way it will be dry enuf to jar before i travel.
The good news is i have cuts of everything to run again if they survive my absence

If you keep the temps below 70f, you’ll probably be fine. Of course, your mold risk is still there if humidity increases or you dont have some airflow.

Basically your two factors that will ruin your terps in this scenario are: temps over 70-75ish (definitely toasted if youre pushing 80f) and also low humidity for an extended period.

Ive seen plants hang for way longer and still come out terpy. One of my friends grew way too much outdoor a few years back and gave me 3 full untrimmed plants a few months later. Still super terpy, one was memorable as some of the best smelling plants ive ever trimmed. Think it was a special sauce CBD plant.

66? That’s fine man…all I do is hang branches upside down in a dark corner of my house with ambient temps of 70-75 and normal humidity since AC or heat usually on. The only worry for you is avoid over drying so would need to jar up when ready for curing otherwise going to be brittle and bone dry. I’ve been drying buds this way for years and never fails… some people can be anal ab the 60/60 but honestly as long as you avoid extreme heat or humidity in either direction it’s all good. But to answer your question no once properly dried they need to hit the jars

Thats a good temp/rh to dry at no prob, it’d just be a lil drier if left for an extra week.

I used humidifier once while drying in a tent and the buds tasted horrible after that, was the first/last time I did that

How are you using a humidifier in your space and do you find it changes the taste? :v:

Depending on the time of year I either will or will not use the humidifier. If it’s close enough I don’t bother.

But no no difference.

I’ve found buds at least 3 months old in the drying place and they’re still pretty good. Maybe not cup winner, but pretty good to smoke if mold is avoided

I have the ac infinity big boy humidifier inside the tent. Never noticed any difference with it or without except its prilly more forgiving having one in there.
Sounds like a bit of a range of opinions but im guessing if im back to jar after a 3 week hang in my environment, that theyll be alright. At least something of a representation of what they could be.
I will say i only put ro water in there tho.

According to Jeremy @ BuildASoil, yes

His assertion is that 60° and 60% RH and being kept in the dark, significantly slows degradation to the point that yeah, you can just pluck buds from the vine as needed once ideally dry.

My opinion; storing any flower in open-air conditions regardless of the temp & RH is a much quicker degradation than if stored in sealed containers :man_shrugging:

Some call it curing.

If it’s dry or close I’d freeze it if possible before I left

If your environment is at 66F and 60% consistently it will be fine. This is essentially a curing room. Will be fire.

Unless there is high fluctuations, then it will dry out. But if kept at 66F and 60% - that’s how most dispensary grows keep their dry rooms and can leave it in there. if 60F and 60% that’s perfect but 66F will do.

I’ve heard of people leaving hanging plants in their garages in the winter for months on end too

It only came down to 66 degrees when i included an a/c register nearby into the footprint.

Maybe but dispensary bud is known to be bone dry always

These are our chop hang dry parameters. If we keep these steady, we can hang for 14 to 17 days. We hang in an extra bathroom with no windows a tiny little fan going underneath of the plants to have air move around. We also keep the air conditioning on in the house for those days, regardless of the time of the year, just to keep it consistent. If it gets too dry, I just fill up a cup of water and splash it in the bathtub all over the shower wall and it brings the humidity back up to the mid 50s range I understand these might be unobtainable to some folks, but in my experience mid 50s high 50s both Rh and degrees crushes the dry process every time to perfection.
