It was during Nevil’s '83/'84 collection trips to the US that he acquired, from Sandy Wienstein (who passed in 1987) the only G-13 cuttings to ever leave Sandy’s garden. Nevil returned to Holland and made three crosses with G-13 at the Seed Bank.
TRUE STORY ?
At a secret installation at the University of Mississippi in the late 1960’s, Dr Carlton Turner created super hybrids. Allegedly, a single cutting of this plant was smuggled out by an unnamed technician, who gave it to Sandy Weinstein, who gave it to Neville Schoenmakers, who grew it commercially. The legend may not be true, however this stain is particularly potent. The original G13 allegedly had a THC content of 28%. There are no original G13 cuttings today, only hybrids. The buds are light green and very dense. The smoke is harsh and just a little fruity
I don’t believe 13 fingers is a distinguishable trait in g13 anyone with actual experience please correct me
Also @anon5325009 i believe you are correct about the airborne pnw cut not being real g13 but it has been passed around for like 30 years and at this point is probably what everyone thinks of when mentioning g13 not thw real deal that came in government pre rolls i do appreciate that you are correct though lol but we both know the real cannabis history will be a distorted mess of reality in 20 yeara anyway so

i don’t know if it’s worth mentioning, but the first strain i grew 10 or so years ago i was told it was G13. I received 4 teen plants of it from a friend of a friend. I didn’t think it would be worth keeping since at the time i believed seeds i ordered would be better (idiot). The plants grew short but somewhat stocky i think they were topped, but the unique think about them was the leaf structure. it had normal fan leaves but it also had a ton of single blade leaves. (long stem leaves with one long leaf, similar in shape to spinach leaves but larger.) I should have probably kept it. prior to growing these g13 i had smoked only 10 or so times. so when i tried this home-grown after not smoking at all it kicked my ass. the high was pretty interesting. it felt like there were multiple “circles” in my head and each one led to a different reality. if that makes any sense… of course after smoking more of it that effect didn’t happen again, but i would still like the strain back so i could compare to what i’ve grown now.
EDIT: i forgot to mention it smelled of lemon and plywood. not sweet or sour lemon, just lemon juice squeezed onto plywood.
EDIT: I did some hunting and found the pictures, they’re blurry but that’s all that i have,
taking another look and i don’t see any normal fan leaves. only singles everywhere with the occasional 3 leaf. i think i’m going to have to hunt down another clone of this.
I’m not sure if g13 had 13 fingers but should be able to dig up some old photos somewhere and maybe get a glimpse, it’s definitely not unique to that strain, more rare now a days but I used to see it in several seed lines
most people arent vegging plants that long for full taxon to show some are running from seed 12/12
the old pure indicas are good for the 13’s and a few tivas as well like you said since the hybrid invasions rare
the color of the bud tells me it’s the real deal. G13 I had was a small popcorn ball very light green with a ton of orange hairs and the buzz was unmistakable level up from anything I had ever had previous besides Cat shit skunk form Columbus Ohio and even that may not have been this strong

I mean whether or not it’s legitimately Nevilles cut is anybody’s guess. But Dr.Greenthumb has been selling cannabis seeds on the internet since at least 1999 so as far as a business I’d say it’s legit. I remember seeing pictures of their Chemdawg and ads for their seed years ago.
Unrelated, I run a Mr Nice G13xHashplant by sensi that’s crossed with California Orange. It’s a wonderful indica.
Greenthumb’s G looks exactly like the Airborne G13nl mother we’ve had for over 15 years at Fleur du Mal. None of the others pictured here do. It’s not a pretty, tasty or easy to trim variety, which is why you find so many crosses released. It lends potency and quality of head to its progeny, and not much else in terms of phenotype.

This is exactly what I remember the one and only time I ever got a bag of G13. No idea if it was cross or the real deal but it was light green and fruity. Psychedelic like visual quality to the high, things looked more vivid, saturated. I wouldn’t call the buds I had “dense” but could’ve just been lowers. This was late 90s. Loooong before I ever heard of an airborne/pacific/etc g13 cut.

Careful ordering any “G13 S1’s” from Dr Greenthumb, already seen a few people get burned with his Millennium Bud instead of the S1’s.
Some of that story is jumbled up its as if someone just herd a rumor an made the rest up.
Nevil collected it from a guy who used to work in a gov agricultural facility.(nothing to do with carton turner or the university) His link to this guy who actually went with nevil to meet him is another very well known and very respected oldtimer in the cannabis community, and a witness to the events.
It was back in the 90s maybe 93’ as well government prescription weed for epilepsy
Had the prescription bottle label and everything on it, just happened as a guy we knew was visiting from out of state. Think it was prior to Cali legalizing in like 96 but i dunno been a good while back. Asked him if it was home grown or import thats when he pulled the pill bottle out
