Is the seed calyx nicknamed "mota"?

I’ve related this story before about how we couldn’t get high for the first year or so of smoking cannabis. Then, back in 1968, i ran into Alex who had some stuff that made us red-eyed and laffing our fucking asses off. We bought his stuff for a year or more. Funny how in all this time i never forgot his name, isn’t it? One time i asked Alex why his stuff was so potent. He said, “Mota.”

I asked him what it is. As far as i could understand him because i didn’t speak Spanish, he said it was what would be the calyx, or as he pointed out on the seed itself, it appeared to me to be what i called the “husk”. I never did have the opportunity to collect “mota” or seed husks to try them out. I know potency of pot is way more than the husks/mota, but I’ve always wanted to try that little experiment and roll up a doob of just pure mota/husks/calyx’s.

Do any growers out there know for sure if it is a mota or not?
And has anybody tried collecting just seed calyx’s or “motas”?
And would it be special if you smoked them separately like you would kief or something?

I hope not to freak out mota, our fellow member here at OG. I related the above story to him, i think at one time or another.

I collect them when I make seed. Plenty potent. Mrs Foreigner will roll joints with it but I save it for butter.

Can’t speak to the terminology.

Thanks for the post. I never had the chance to just smoke “mota” by itself. Is it smooth? I’d think very nice flavor, right? We would deseed those buds, and the motas just got mixed in with everything else. Damn that was some of the best weed i ever had. Kona gold was also a memorable pheno, along with various colombian phenos. I’d just love to get a batch of buds and winnow out the motas, and roll me up a spliff. But damn, you can’t go to the stoopid dispo and get buds w/seeds, yanno.

Yes it’s just fine and very pleasant. A bit fluffy so maybe not ideal for joints. As I said I usually use it for butter of save up enough of it to do a bubble run.

Mrs Foreigner will pilfer it out of the bowl though.

She likes that eh? I knew it. I knew that was the real deal. Damn…sensemilla…dammit. I mean sense’s great, just i’d like to see a seed one time, or better, about a quarter oz of seedy buds that i could clean out and add to the bucket list. That’d be nice.

And, if too fluffy, i have one of those little spoon pipes or whatever they’re called.

She smokes way more than I do. In fact I defer to her judgement when it comes to testing.

I wouldn’t make crappy seeds just for the byproduct but if you had a cross in mind it’s a nice side benefit.

I’ve got a pic somewhere of a seed splitting a calyx completely that is totally covered in frost. Very smokeable.

Yes pretty much verbatim.

We often have multiple weed receptacles lying around.

“There’s never enough”, she said with a sly smile.

I do my very best but she burns through it pretty fast.

When I’m stocked I can do seed runs but I’m not quite there yet.

Mota Info:

Mota is the Spanish slang term for a small amount of weed, usually only enough for one or two standard size joints. The word mota means ‘speck’ in Spanish and is a good descriptor of how much weed a mota of weed refers to.

While the word is Spanish, it isn’t used in Spain or Spanish-speaking European regions. You’ll mostly hear “mota” being used in Middle America by Spanish-speaking people. It was later adopted by the cannabis culture in the United States, predominantly those in the southern States.

Interesting.

Like @Foreigner, I will also use them in butter or hash. If some make it into a doobie or a bowl while I’m doing my thing, so be it. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Oh, he’s definitely freaked out!
