i use neither of those formulas , veg is handled with 20 20 20 , every 3rd or so hit i add in a touch of 10 30 20 to it but solo 20 20 20
Tablespoon epson salt per 5 gallons or so once older .
Assumed you were 20/20/20 , appears it is your feed

3/1/4 i would never feed to young uns
poor signal to the plants i feel
1/1/1 for young uns in my book

This is great info, thanks @Jetdro. Since I was starting a new nute line for me I just followed the Jacks feeding chart. It seemed like a good starting point. I must say I am a bit disappointed to see the instructions from the company itself are so bad. I knew there would be a learning curve with this new to me line.
so the reason I run them is when me and I fish and Papa and Barry made this thing up all I was doing was looking at numbers and trying to make the numbers work into what we wanted the jacks just fit the bill the three formulas give me everything I want by using them straight or mixing them to be honest I’ve never even looked at their charts I have no clue what they say I don’t even know what this 321 means and I don’t care I will run our forward growing program and use those numbers because I know how they work
20/20/20 with epsom and 10 30 20 at 25 % once in awhile all veg and first 3 weeks flower .
Switch to half 20/20/20 half 10/30/20 for week , then straight 10/30/20 , 6 and on handled by straight 5/12/26
Thats it
some add bloom booster and Cal mag and all manner of stuff I don’t add nothing Other than some Epson salt once in a while and the touch of 10 3020 in mid veg
Amen brother the schedule it proven
And can be. Tweaked if needed
If you want to know if it works took one look at the fritter I just took down
Doug, I switched to Jack’s for the last run and I’m running it again this time. I use the 5-12-26 original formula as part A, cal nitrate and Epson salt.
Full strength is 3.6g part A, 2.4g part B and 1.2g Epson. I find babies like about 1.2-1.4 ec in soil which is around 40% of the full strength and I go up in strength as the plant shows the need. Flowering , I’m running about 1.6-1.8 ec, which is like 60%-70% of full strength, but I’m sure coco or hydro probably has higher needs. I’m sure you’ll get it dialed in quickly, you know how to read the plants very well.
I tried the 321 it’s why too hot
1/2 teaspoon per gallon of the 20/20/20 plus 1/4 teaspoon per gal of both Epson salts and calmag = about 560 ppms give or take
It’s plenty of feed to keep them happy
20 20 20 makes plants happy .
I never had any doubt that Jacks works, so many people use it successfully. This is one of the reasons I started this experiment with it and knew there would be some issues. I fully expected that. To me the best way to start was with the companies feeding chart. Seems to me many new growers will go try Jacks and with no other knowledge will just follow what the company states. I did the same thing with GH trio once upon a time. Started with what they said and over time figured out a better way and I am quite happy with my results. I felt I should tackle Jacks the same way. Start with what is printed, see the results and go from there.
I use this same method when I teach folks about tech and such. I tell them to learn my way first and then create their own way by taking what they have learned and tweaking it to their own way. It’s just my method. This is also going to be helpful for others as they can see what I am doing and see the results. Could save them some trouble in having to do it themselves.
In the end I am a curious guy and have no issues showing my plants struggling. Now I have moved them up to more aggressive feeding with the TAP formula I will get to see how they respond. Once I get through this grow and take in all the data it will be time to change it up but for now I am actually enjoying watching how they react to the companies instructions. I personally think the Clone formula has been a failure and it shows in the plants. It will be interesting to see what the next phase will do.
You’ll get it figured out took me a couple grows when I switched to plant prod .
And I still get issues periodically.
Absolutely and I fully expected to have a learning curve here. I am totally cool with putting in the work and figuring it out. That’s how knowledge is gained IMO. It’s good to step out of one’s comfort zone from time to time. I have a good feed schedule for plants that I know works but why go the easy route. I am looking to expand my knowledge and learning that the Clone formula just doesn’t work at the mix they suggested is great information to have as far as I am concerned.
So after comments from @Jetdro and some advice form @Papalag I decided to order some Jacks 20-20-20. It’s on the way. I will keep some of the plants going on the Jacks feed schedule but the rest I will switch over. That way I can finish the experiment but also get some good smoke. Thanks for the guidance @Jetdro and @Papalag
Are you gonna do aside by side of custom schedule vs factory schedule?
Yup, sounds like a plan to me. I trust the members here telling me a better way much more than a feed schedule by a nute company. Still, I want to keep a few on the feed schedule to see the difference.
Sounds like alot more dickin’ around compared to the GH or whatever you were using before.
I hope you get it figured.
I am trying out organic dry amendments for the first time (Gaia Green) I am hoping I will be successful with it. I am tired of mixing liquid nutes and using the salts just doesn’t intrigue me. Less work the better for me. Best of luck Doug. I think the OG users who have used it before will set you on the right track.
Thanks @chronix, I know they will. I will probably leave one of each strain on the feed schedule or 2. The rest I will change over. Should be a fun experiment.
It will be an interesting comparison/experiment for sure.
Only one way to learn, and thats by giving it a try. Can’t learn if you don’t try.
If my switch to dry amendments doesn’t work out, I will post results of my failure and hopefully learn from my mistakes. I’m not afraid to laugh at my own mistakes.
In my opinion though, your plants still don’t look terrible. Not as vibrant as your usual, but that really is to be expected switching to a completely different line. I still say your doing a heck of a good job.
This is what I use indoors and outdoors. I think you will be pleased with the results.
Add some silica and gypsum and you’ll be set.
