Jalalabad Star from Afghanistan

Jalalabad Star is a ExSitu C. indica ssp. afghanica genetics. Preserved since 1989, these seeds were originally collected in 1988 in the area of Salang Pass, Afghanistan, after the disengagement of the Soviet Army there at the time.

The effects of Jalalabad Star will provide a special kind of stone that can be described as psychedelic, and impressively powerful. Its beautiful honey colored flowers will invoke happiness and a general sense of well being.

The original seeds are very hard to pop. So was Pakistan Treasure I did last year that now has 100% germ and survival rates.

Urgent call was for me to save 6 strains asap with a letter from overseas last month, Let’s start with Jalalabad Star.

Rumors was these seeds are a challenge to pop. I know why too, and I’ll talk about those reason later on this thread.

Jalalabad Star and other seeds in the biodiversity regeneration preservation project were hard to pop, including a tissue culture lab had no sucess with 4 of the strains.

Because of my success last year popping seeds, I’m doing the rest of the strains. :100::dove:

An interesting project with an excellent landrace variety… I wish you success!
Do you use any tricks when germinating very old seeds?

Just Gauze sponges ahd hydrogen peroxide, I use it a certain way, depending on the seeds.

Good time to bring them JS seeds out of storage, the last seeds are dwindling. You can compare results. These seeds I have are from the original breeder.

I waited 3 weeks to feed JS, just before food day, something surfaced, 3 issues cause this, besides being Pro Mix BX lol

  1. Overwatered
  2. Potassium deficiency
  3. Light intensity

I was going to feed it a 4 4 4, had the bag ready for weeks.

  1. I lowered the plants , they were at 12 inches away from small meanwell rectangle LED

  2. I decided to use a lower P and higher K. 9-2-7 1/8 teaspoon in 1 gallon top dressed. A smidgen of a smidgen of bokashi blend.

  3. I didnt add water.

Within 3 days it was fixed. And JS had its first feeding. :dove:

Waiting the extended time showed me a possible K deficiency, this may be key to preventing a future issue unknowingly if I used a 4 4 4 before week 3 from tail.

These look fantastic!

Can you elaborate a little on your germination method? You seem to have great success with hard to pop beans!

Sorry I’m late  but there was traffic and I had a flat , I got it changed and was like fk it so I just sat there and smoked a J to take the edge off  but I made it so I’ll pull up on that old cedar stump with my trusty rolling try  watching intently and again great work my friend

Good luck ! It looks good so far ! I had some Durban Poison seeds that would not germ no matter what I did ! I used all the tricks and still no germ. Are you going to sell seeds later ? Chubby

It’s basically involves by sight.
Sometimes i rechange the gauze sponges during the process, add HP here and there. I even grow plants the same way, by what my eyes tell me. :dove:

Update on Jalalabad Star. After 300 seeds ive got 2 selected for the next generation. I may have 2 females for the project.

The little ones will be breed separately and not relesed to the public. They will be work up as mutant phenotypes for future use. :100::dove:

Good luck with them , I do have just 5 seeds , a far cry from those 300 but if they look as vigorous and healthy as yours I will be very pleased.

I will keep an eye here.

Cheers!
